Exactly.
I too wish it wasn't the case, but your right SC, it is. Which is why I like your idea, and would gladly support and use it.

Dreven,
Did you get my suggestion for an 'informer' NPC in each city that would give the same results as the search function for smugglers?
That way any player could go to the informant, converse, and get a list of smugglers in the area without us having to display our titles.
I just think a big neon sign over our heads that reads the equivalent of "criminal" is kind of lame.
My only issue with this is that it's a game function, not a gameworld function. If you've ever done any decent RPing in SWG then you've most likely noticed that most people still make introductions and ask "what do you do?" even though the info is floating above your head.
It's a function of the game, not something that translates into the environment of the gameworld. Just you can't honestly think that everyoen carries around a glowrod (light), a personalbio-scanner (radar), a personal faction detector (colored dots on the radar), and a commlink that constantly scan frequencies for your area (chat channels). These are all functions of the game for ease of use, we don't actually walk around anouncing what we are and what we do toanyone who glances in our direction.
Your other ideas about the "informant"and whatnot though....those are topnotch! Great stuff!
I like the informant idea, and not showing titles. Has anyone thought of registering at a location like entertainers do? Something along the lines of the smuggler going to an informant to register at location X (starport, cantina, whatever location is best for immersion). Then the other players would simply have to look at their map to know a smuggler is offering their services at a particular locale. Sort of like RL where you know certain "services" can be had in certain areas or establishments in your town, but not necessarily from who. Works from the law enforcement perspective as well unless a location is targeted for a raid based on the loose lips of an informant. Also anyone "advertising" not so discreetly through use of titles or spam would have the heat on them in minutes a.k.a. imperial beatdown.
Yeah, that's a great idea! I think though for the sake of immersion you would need to have some sort of in-between. Just like selling spice on a public vendor detracts for the "illegality" of it, I don't think that being able to go to a cantina and seeign a list of active Smugglers is very immersive either.
Maybe you need to bribe an NPC to gain access to the list. Or talk to a certain NPC who gives you a datadisk that has the list. Or talk to an NPC that gives you an access code to a locked door that has a terminal behind it. Of course, if you had Underworld I or Slicing I you could gain access without the runaround.
Could be a cool added feature t oalleviate the "tell hell" and increase immersion. In combination with other revamo ideas and a full fledged Underworld this coudl be great!
