Thread: The New Concussion Shot?

A couple other people posted about panic shot and low blow, though I found some differences in what they posted about and what I noticed. Here's what I have observed (all observations are property of the observer, and should not be construed as any sort of truth ).


First, a primer on some of the terms I'll be using:


Root- Roots keep you stuck in one place. You cannot move while under the effects of a root, but you act normally in any other regards (you can still shoot, act, heal, etc etc). Roots do not break when you are damaged, and appear to not be removable by any means (Master Heal from Jedi Healing does not remove it, State removal (can't remember the name) from a Master Doc does not remove it, and even those skills that state they 'free you' such as Force Run do not neutralize it). Roots are really powerful if you can out range your opponent while still doing damage to them (via DOTs, long range weapons, etc). Roots make kiting a whole lot easier, since you don't always have to be on the move.


Mesmerize (Mez) - Mezs not only keep you stuck in place, but they keep you from doing ANYTHING until the Mez is removed. There are no skills (that I am aware of) that break Mez, but damage from anything is supposed to break it. Mezs tend to have much longer lasting effects then roots, but then again, if you shoot them they are instantly out of the mez.


Speed Debuffs - Reduces the speed of your opponent. This usually results in them shooting a bit slower. As far as I know speed debuffs do not get removed from damage, and again aren't 'states' and hence are not curable by the 'heal state' skills of Docs and Jedi. An interesting side note, the speed with which the cooldown of non-damaging actions cools down appears to be directly related to the speed of your weapon. If you get a really slow rifle and a really fast pistol and a doctor have them equip the rifle and heal you. While their 'heal timers' do indeed have a set period of inactivity, the overall cooldown of their other actions cools down much slower then if they had the fast pistol on. Not sure if this is intended oranother bug, though I would be interested if anyone else has seen this.


Ok... now onto the skills:


Concussion Shot - Currently a root. Due to the particulars about root and the insanely long time concussion shot has you can effectively keep someone rooted in the same place indefinately (given you hit them and apply the status). The way the description reads, it was supposed to be a mez.


Panic Shot - Speed Debuff. Reduces speed by 15 for Improved Panic Shot. Honestly, with the speed curve, unless you are fighting someone who has not stacked ranged professions, you won't even notice they are shooting you slower (there is a great post on speed times somewhere, but I forgot where ).


Low Blow- Another Speed Debuff. Reduces speed by 40 (I think) as a master smuggler. This one you can usually see the differences. If you stack the two you will really start seeing them slow down. Try it on nearby a stormtrooper. Neither Panic Shot nor Low Blow are broken by damage, but the duration of the shots mean you won't stack both of them for long if you are trying to also do damage. You can stack them, and I haven't noticed any sort of restriction to reapplying them (you can shoot them with it over and over and it just resets the timers, at least when I last looked).



Now, onto your question... If Concussion shot becomes a mez it will mean we (smugglers) won't be able to keep someone completely immobile while everyone else can pound on them. It means you can't stop that pesky jedi in their tracks and pound on them from 40m with a rifle. However, there are many little tricks you can do with Mez that make it a very nice skill to have. Completely stopping the ability of your opponent to do anything for 38 seconds (asa Master Smuggler)or until you are ready to damage again can be really nice.


As for Panic Shot, the change to Concussion shot doesn't change the worth of Panic Shot in my opinion. If anything that question should be more about the differences between panic shot and low blow.

Thanks to all who replied. Feel free to keep going, I want to learn as much as I can about Smuggler abilities. I've never been one to crunch the numbers or anything. I know there are those of you out there that have tested skills extensively and I'd love to read about your findings. If anyone has anything else to add about Smuggler combat skills/abilities or the tactics one should use when employing said skills, please feel free to reply. Thank you all... including the Smugs with the beer and pie

Concussionshot is a root.....that is supposed to break on dmg

pancis shot is ment to slow down your attack speed.

LB is supposed to KD but also slows attack spd.

im pretty sure that is how it is SUPPOSED to be.

Agreed , It doesnt do nearly enough dmg to even make it onto my toolbar ,Hell the shots in the marksman tree do better damage with no defensivepenalty


They need to leave concussion alone until they are prepared to implimentfixes tosmugglers other shots that are either busted or near worthless andunderpowered



Turning Star Wars Galaxies into a first person shooter is as bad an idea as turning it into a real time strategy game.. thanks for the toilet in the middle of the living room !
