Thread: Devs Fired a Coro?

Well, to be fair, many players haven't suffered long enough to have learned the (relative) patience and maturity with which we've taken our nerfs and general gimpedness.

I do wish people would give it a little more time. Beta IS a very fluid time (haven't armorsmiths already seen their CU organic resource costs halved? It's a good bet they'll see other changes as well), and as bad as SOE may appear at times, it'd be willfully self-destructive to stick with mechanics that are utterly unworkable. Martyring yourself is an understandable move, but leaving your community without a correspondent in the middle of the biggest changes your profession will ever see is a bit of a mishandling of your responsibility.

I was very glad to see the instant move for a new correspondent. It might be an insult to the very effective and beloved one the armorsmiths had until a few hours ago, but it's just so necessary for the community's needs to have someone in place that you can't worry about face right now. Pretty ambivalent about the rest of it, but for that move I'm with SOE all the way.

Now, if it were Wes in that situation, I'd probably be too busy burning a swath o'er the land to be noodling about this.. but I entirely doubt Wes would ever be in this position. Like any great smuggler should be, he's too tricksy for that kind of thing.

Do the armorsmiths have some valid complaints? You betcha. No argument there. Have they handled it in a REMOTELY constructive way? Hell no. This is beta people! Nothing is set in stone and the game is changing every couple of days... hell, sometimes more than that. I'm so tired of seeing "SOE doesn't care" - "SOE doesn't want us to have fun" - "SOE is run by the Taliban" - It's ridiculous. Honestly - If you're that completely up in arms about it... If you hate SOE and this game that much. PLEASE I beg you. Quit. Please quit. I'm starting to think it doesn't matter what SOE does, the only way to make this game better is for every whiner to belly up to the bar and follow through on their threats of quitting.

Know what? Ill just let the AS forum threads speak for itself to debunk this lame comment.

One thing to bare in mind the changes made on the test server might not be the same changes made on the Dev server.

It's possible that on the Dev server everything is working perfectly (it has nobody playing it ergo everything will be perfect.) having had discussions with other players regarding this topic I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt for now until the changes on the Dev server are moved to the test server.

This is the reasons i dont usually read the forums nowadays.. I've just had enough of reading and responding and no attention is ever given.

This was kinda mentioned in a previous post, but it is certainly worth paraphrasing. Let me put it as a question:

What are the devs working on changing today? What's on their plate for the first couple days next week? What are their top 10 issues to resolve by the 25th?

Don't know? You don't??? really? huh. I sure don't, but I assumed it was posted somewhere I hadn't seen. Many people certainly talk as if they know what's going on with the coders.

Tell me.... if you don't know what is being coded right now, how do you know that the evil, satanic devs are igoring community concerns? If you haven't seen AS in its final version (is it really finalized?), how do you know that the devs are trying to destroy an entire community?

When I'm hitting crunch time on a big project, I'm busy as hell coding. Do I update my clients twice a day on what I'm coding? nope. they're lucky to get me to answer the phone. I'm busy! I do, however, read their emails and prioritize their concerns with what I've got to do.

Basically, if you want to violate agreements you've made, break rules, cancel accounts, scream, whine, b!tch, moan, sign petitions, thumb your nose, and fart at a development team b/c of what you're seeing in a beta test -- go right ahead. Just don't expect to be taken seriously.

Have you played on Beta testC yet?

The CU is two weeks away... with as pathetically slow as these devs code, I don't think they're going to really change anything in that time. Yeah you can tweek and fix a few bugs, but the core of how the new system works is in place, and there isn't a damn thing they can do, besideds delay the CU, to change that.

I've tested before, and if you've seen how long it takes them to get something from their test server to TC then you'd realize that either they're perfectly willing to throw this thing to live without proper testing, or they aren't going to make any more sugnificant changes... I bet it's number 2... (fitting term)

Even when JTL was in it's final week of beta it had some gamestoppiing bugs, and that went through their internal test server... for some reason their internal testers just really bite... they never get even the biggest and most obvious bugs... TC EP3 isn't a beta, it's an ALPHA....

And for the people that think the devs can do no wrong, and that this game will be perfect no matter what they do, take a good hard look.

Most people who have stuck out Smuggler for this long are not the typical gamer.. they're either a glutton for punishment, or a reas SW fan.. and this game is getting further and further from SW with ever patch to TC

That being said this CU seems rather random, like they're designing it as the beta test it. And with a hard deadline based on the movie release that just seems absurd to me.

They shouldn't be breaking things like the weapon customization then trying to patch it up by making fully customized weapons certed at various levels. Then they hear the uproar over this group or that not being able to use this weapon or that so they throw in some bogus combat level cert overlapped over the profession level cert...mind boggling and horribly unplanned IMO.

Then, of course, there are the poor entertainers (of which one of my alts is) that get totally screwed by; 1) making an entire branch useless, b) leaving them health-poor in combat, c) removing BF to heal and d) making it EASIER for bufbots to suck the fun out of the profession.

All in the name of the Sacred CURB some people at SOE have it in their stubborn heads that the GCW is the be-all end-all of the entire game and are willing to sacrifice anything in the name of combat for the GCW. That is pitiful in my not-so-humble opinion.

Wow, for someone who's played since Launch, you sure are Naive. Getting the devs to listen and make changes that are overwhelmingly wanted by the community is like dragging the SOE offices thru quick-sand. They MIGHT eventually do it, but never without having their backs against the wall. I mean, hell, look at what it took to get wookies armor. Also, whilea CU was overwhelmingly asked for, what everyone RAILED against was that no one wanted the game to be a EQSWG. But that's what they are doing. Also, never before have they made such a huge change to the game that utterly screwed a profession. There are better ways to make armor less effective than making the crafting process a giant pain in the ass.

listen, I'm not totally anti-Dev, I know that they work hard, but its not just the devs you know, its the folks up top calling the shots that we should really be angry with. Devs are simply the ones that get to carry out the things we hate in this game (and of course all the wonderful things we love too). but i certainly won't say that listening is a strong suit of theirs

I certainly hope you didn't read that anywhere in my post. My point (strangely similar to yours) is that this is a work in progress. To decide that the CU ruined the game now is nuts.

and if you think that SOE isalone inreleasing a buggy product into the world, I have some bad news for you: They're following the industry standard. Do I like it? no. Do I wish that all software providers (Microsoft, Oracle, Sony, etc, etc) would make sure their product was stable before releasing it? Yeah... but there don't seem to be a whole lot of options. The whole software market is based on releases and patches, rather than just releases.

I still say that one should wait until mid-July to really see what the CU will truly be like. Until then, I'll be mining asteroids.

I don't know what's wrong with the DEV team, but they have decided to turn this game into some pokemon piece of crap, maybe they want to attract mor people in their Japanese market or something, but it's not good.

So, the AS coro said TH and Tiggs aren't listening, so you guys go at it.. that's fine...he didn't say spam Blix or anything, and if they want to say that's what he did, then that's just to justify them being pissed that he let the cat out of the bag tht they don't care what he says as a coro, because they are going to do it their way no matter what. If they cared about community feedback would they have put it up for consumption only 4 weeks before it was to be released, with a hard date for it's release? or course not... it's going to be their way no matter what, and anyone who dissagreeds get's the boot, and dosn't even get a real reason why, not to mention the non blue glowy status.

You think they are trying to change this into Pokemon now? I guess you wern't around when Creature Handlers were the dominant force. The game used to look like Pokemon back then. Everyone with their pair of pet grauls. Lots of people cried and screamed when they made the CH changes. But ultimatly the game is much better off because of it.

Everyone who plays this game as an oppinion and feedback on what they want to see. The developers cannot incorporate everyones feedback into the game. So I have to give them credit for following through with THEIR design vision.

And I believe that urging players to PM developers was entirely out of line. It is completely conterproductive, as well as against what the position of the corospondent stands for. Its unfortunate that it happened, but he brought it upon himself. And unfortunatly, the AS community will suffer as a result.

I've already mentioned this, so I'll be brief and on-topic(I hope).

The AS Cor was awesome. I'll miss him, he did a great job from what I could see and Wes' comments.

BUT.

The Corrs have a particular function and a particular way they're expected to carry it out. These are NOT arbitrary, from what I know of them. The rules are there to streamline things getting TO the devs. They may or may not have time to pass things back. Should they make efforts to get things passed back FROM the Devs? Sure. But think about a Dev's typical day with (often) 80-hour weeks coming up on deadlines. Sure, they can pass along that they're working on things. In Fact, Blixtev had taken time out to say a few things, which is great. He even said here and there he could compromise on some things, like resource details, though he also made a case for his vision of dsaid details tht was under fire, insofar as he could take the time to do so. But I digress. The Corr system seems designed to cut down on the things the devs need to pay attention to in order to get the information from players that they need. I liked the AS Corr in question, just like I like Wes, but he stepped WAY outside that role. there's a system in place, and it may not always look like it works. Sure, it's frustrating. But if you're a correspondant, that's where your work has to be done. If it's not, you're not a correspondant anymore, and they're going to remove you for someone tht can do the job the way it's been laid out. I'm pretty sure the Devs didn't want to do that, but rules are rules, and your warning was given when you agreed to do the job under those rules. Corrs shouldn't have to be warned. i think that's a basic premise of the job.

Do I like him? Yeah. Do i think he was trying to do right by his profession? Absolutely. Do I think it was deserved? Unfortunately yes. He did a fantastic job and he'll be missed, especially now, but the rules are there for a reason and must be enforced, or we may as well not even have corrs.
