Thread: example of why Exploit slicing needs fixed -sorry this one i hope :)
and also, your logic seems fine in order to give yourself a sense of legitimacy, but it's still a known exploit. The fact that the devs have more important things to do doesn't make it less of an exploit.
Remind me to explain the concept of "Devil's Advocate" sometime, kid.

As far as I know you can't tell an exploit PU slice unless you either know the original stats and do the math to figure the slice came out higher than 35%.
Only way you'd know if one you bought on a vendor was an exploit slice is if you knew the max possible sliced stats for that particular weapon.
BTW, I've never had a customer even HINT at doing a PU slice for them. Of coure I'd refuse and let them know it's an exploit.
And, BTW, just because no one is banned or they haven't fixed it in a year now does NOT mean it's OK.
So what would be the cut off point, what if they ignore it for two years, or maybe three. Would five years do it? If the Dev's know about it and know that everyone else knows about it and is taking advantage of it then they must not consider it an exploit.
No one has ever asked me to do it for them when they ask me to slice something and had they I would have said no, but the fact remains that the Dev's don't seem to consider it an exploit so at what point do we stop considering it an exploit.
For all we know the Dev's have decided to leave it in there when they do the re-vamp (if that ever happens) and just didn't say anything to us (like that would be anything new) and so don't consider it an exploit.
It would be nice if a Dev could ever answer any of the issues like this that come up on the boards.

Perhaps you meant "yourself" in the plural sense. If so, I apologize, Mister Internet Forum Person. If not, oh well.

Hey....I think we need to step back and take a breath....
I am new to the smug prof...but I am trying to get up to speed reading the forums...and man some people are harsh.
If I buy a gun with killer stats from a vendor how can I possibly know it is an exploit? Granted the previous information has pretty much validated the fact that the said vendor had exploited weapons...but he also posted and stated he deleted all the guns after he found out it was an exploit(kudos to you sir...that was a very gracious thing to do...I am sure it set you back a pretty penny) yet I saw several posts after his calling him names and being hard on the guy.
also...unless the devs post a tool to verify your weapons are "legit" how can anyone know for sure if their weapons are not exploit ones unless they make and slice them personally?
I am in no way condoning using the exploit...but I also wonder how many uber pvpers are knowingly using these type weapons....and how many new players are using them unknowingly.
Is it fair to make the new player who paid his whole bank for a great gun when he has no idea what an exploit is in the first place delete the gun???
Maybe the devs need to make a fix that was similar to the creature handler fix....where you can take the weapon to a npc and trade it in for an identical one with "Legal stats"
just a thought

Why not push SOE to do an audit for these kinds of weapons? Surely, if they can detect and determine signatures for duping of credits they can do something about discovering 'unnaturally' altered equipment.
That's just it, SOE knows about it ,and has known about it for quite a while, and doesn't seem to care.

Hi, sorry to semi hijack the thread, didn't want to start a new one when this is related.
Is there an armor slicing exploit such as the pup one?
I'm curious since my husband came across a vendor with approximately 60 helmets selling for 1.2 million each.
All of the helmets were identical, and their base stats were 90%, sliced. Please don't take this as trying to stir the pot but my god....I've sliced 10 suits of armor in a single run and there's no way I got ALL of them to have the same base stats.
If not...all I can say is wow.
Well...Armor is capped at 90%...so the AS could have just sat down with a Smuggler and gone through several (hundred) pieces of high-quality comp until they came up with all 90% pieces.
This probably justifies the 1.2 mil per piece cost since there's no telling how many pieces they went through to get these...
Beyond that, my only other thought is that these might be some left-overs that slipped through the cracks after the multi-sliceing exploit that went around a few months ago.
If they all also have very low or 0 encumberance, I'd highly suspect the multi-slice exploit and /report them...

Of course they don't care about it...unless i'm mistaken you still can't slice lightsabers, right? I mean, if somehow an exploit involved Jedi they'd be all over it.
That might just be the way to get this finally taken care of. Get the Jedi into an uproar about how BH's use pup-slices to kill them. Then it'll get a look at.
Sorry if i seem upset. I had another guy ask me to do this today, then argued with me when I said i wouldn't. This same guy approached me about 2 weeks ago to do 5 scatter pistols. Today it was 5 T21s. I'm tired of losing business because I refuse to help someone cheat.
That's actually not a bad idea.

I had a good idea? Wow, that's a first.
Seriously though, the way things seem to be going, if it's an issue that only really effects smugglers, it gets pushed off until god knows when. The only way for something to be done is to demonstrate how it effects other classes, especially the devs golden-children.
About the only consistent form of PvP left in this game revolves around BH/Jedi wars. And since pup slicing is primarily for PvP (i've had people tell me then NEEDED pup slices to be able to PvP) this is the direction we need to go to get this finally taken care of
