To play Devil's Advocate for a moment:

1. If this exploit has been around since launch and
2. The devs have done nothing to address it and
3. No players have been banned because of it then
4. It looks like a feature

Solo grouping is an exploit, yet nothing is done about it. Jedi spawn breaking is an exploit, yet it's taken as a legitimate (if not liked) means of gaining XP. There are many exploits in this game that are tolerated by most everyone, so why does this particular exploit receive so much condemnation? If the devs didn't like it, they'd nerf it pretty quick like they've done with past exploits they felt went over the line.

The devs have a quick trigger finger when it comes to nerfs. Of all the things they've nerfed in this game, why would this one survive for over a year? It must not be that big a deal to them.

First time to the forums but i hav played game for a long time and i not like using forums but i find this vendor today and as a long time smuggler and now am suffering lots from people asking for pwerup slices is making me come to post. so i did quick visit about how to post pictures and this is what i see.

I have always wanted to finally prove im not going mad and find some weaponsmith stupid enough to put stats in title and then sell with exploit and this merou man is one of them:

This t21 is 176-411 unsliced. But now has damage 224-541. These stats are impossible even with say a 27% slice would have Min damage of 224, but then that would give Max damage of 522. So, only way to get 541 is using a powerup.

This one is funny one. It has damage of 176-411 in title, but has sliced damage of 231-558. How can you have 558? thats 36%??

First the min damage - 31% damage slice on 176 = 231. So 31% gives max damage = 538. Even 35% damage slice gives you best max of 554.

And now this?

A sliced Jawa Rifle - title says 128-232. And is sliced to 166-312. I will apply same rule of slice which mean to get a 166 min damage off a slice is 30%. With this slice weapon would be 301 max damage.

This mans vendor have over 100 weapons on it. I went threw every single one and each of them is powerup sliced.

Dont other smugglers see this is a real bad thing for the profession, and weaponsmiths who sell stuff properly and with proper slices are getting damaged by this kind of thing?

People like you need to get banned.

My sentiments exactly.

i mean, i didnt intentionally buy an expolited weapon, just happened to get it, and as i stand it a damn good gun, i cant tell whats expolited or not. and its not my fault that i got an expolied weapon without knowing it, im gonna use it just cos i spent cash on it. im not gonna delete it cos its bad, i spent cash on it, and unlike most of u im not rolling in cash.

oh and for all i care ban me, i ve been playing this for so long i dont really care what happens, im bored with the game and with the devs.

so im a 5up3r 1337 h4xx0r cos i bought 1 exploied weapon and wont destroy it cos i spent good cash on it, and if the devs really cared they would of got rid of the bug since its been around for a while, and delete all weapons sliced in this way

I like this logic, really. I guess that means whenever I slice a piece of armor and the "set color" screen comes up that the devs really INTENDED for me to change the color of everyone's armor?

I have a strange feeling that the Pup exploit won't ever really be looked at until the smuggler revamp. I'm optimistic that they have finally realized that the current slicing interface (cut wires) is exceedingly boring, and that they'll redesign the feel of slicing, in the process removing the Pup exploit. That's the ONLY reason i can see this still being an issue after a year+.

Well, now you know. Take it back to the seller and say you want a full refund, if this isn't possible you can make a report on it, actually I suggest you do this in either case, just to keep your own back clean. Now since you know, yor are indeed intentionally using and exploited weapon.

Just looking at those pictures, isn't it possible that there is a legitimate powerup on them as well? The way the print screens were done it's impossible to tell. With that in mind, how can we confirm whether this is a PuP slice or not?

well first off, when devs address exploits it's called a FIX, not a nerf

and also, your logic seems fine in order to give yourself a sense of legitimacy, but it's still a known exploit. The fact that the devs have more important things to do doesn't make it less of an exploit.

Plus, when was the last time a dev actually, for reals paid any sort of positive (not teasing like greenmarine) attention to smugglers?

As far as I know you can't tell an exploit PU slice unless you either know the original stats and do the math to figure the slice came out higher than 35%.

Only way you'd know if one you bought on a vendor was an exploit slice is if you knew the max possible sliced stats for that particular weapon.

BTW, I've never had a customer even HINT at doing a PU slice for them. Of coure I'd refuse and let them know it's an exploit.

And, BTW, just because no one is banned or they haven't fixed it in a year now does NOT mean it's OK.

I mean, smugglers do illegal stuff and all, but that's just unethical.

So what would be the cut off point, what if they ignore it for two years, or maybe three. Would five years do it? If the Dev's know about it and know that everyone else knows about it and is taking advantage of it then they must not consider it an exploit.

No one has ever asked me to do it for them when they ask me to slice something and had they I would have said no, but the fact remains that the Dev's don't seem to consider it an exploit so at what point do we stop considering it an exploit.

For all we know the Dev's have decided to leave it in there when they do the re-vamp (if that ever happens) and just didn't say anything to us (like that would be anything new) and so don't consider it an exploit.

It would be nice if a Dev could ever answer any of the issues like this that come up on the boards.

How many times does it have to be said?! The devs have said it's an exploit. The fact THE GAME removes pups before the slice makes it an exploit. What more do you want?

I want it fixed!

They fix other exploits, if the solution to an exploit is for the Dev's to say it's an exploit and that fixes it then I guess the solution to the Smuggler revamp would be for the Dev's to say, "Yep, Smuggler's need a revamp."

If it's an exploit then it should be fixed because as long as it exists someone is going to use it. How many other exploits are in this game, or any other MMORPG, that the Dev's say, "Yeah, that's an exploit. Here's how it works...But don't do it."
