If they got rid of speed capping, it wouldn't be such a problem because you would always be doing good for the player. Its the formula for calculating speed is ridiculous anyways.

I remember bakc before I was speed capped, working my way up Marksman, and it was a balance - Slice and Pup. If you got a Speed slice, you compensated with a Damage Pup, and vice versa.

Now that pretty much all committed players of a profession are speed capped, speed is not an issue. So it has to be Damage slice and Damage Pup.

Except, it has to be said, for the poor old Commandos. I had a guy buy 5 consecutive Flamethrowers the other day, as he was looking for a Speed Slice, and I was getting Dam 28, Dam 24, Dam 27 etc I did allow myself a wry smile at the irony. Cost him over 250k heh

and as for the myriad discussions on slicing, i personally would be happier with being able to choose my slices and would trade off a % for that - would rather be guaranteed a 10-25% damage slice than get a random slice between two stats, one of which is often useless to me.

Isn't slicing analogous to 'modding' or 'tweaking'? Kind of like hotrodding a car or overclocking a pc. Does it really make any sense for it to be totally random?

I can almost buy weapon slicing - short a circuit, gun either fires faster or with more power (though how this works for melee weapons...?) - but armor slicing? Seems to me, logically you'd either have to add material to get higher resists (thereby increasing weight/encumbrance) or remove material to make it lighter, which are fundamentally opposite actions. It boggles the mind that a slicer wouldn't have any idea what s/he was doing.

The way slicing currently functions is a total hack, that obviously was rushed through without any real thought put into it. Much like the whole smuggler profession.

It obviously needs to be revised.

Naturally, I've got afew ideas to throw into the mix:

1. Choose the slice. Slicer gets to choose speed/damage, effectiveness/encumbrance. I'd like to see range mods and condition slicable as well.

2. Multi-slicing. Items can be sliced as many times as you want, each slice giving a small improvement to any chosen stat. The catch? With every slice, the chance of failure goes up. Result of failure may include: reduction of one or more stats to rendering the item completely useless.

3. Slice items besides weapons/armor. Vehicles, droids, harvesters, and survey/crafting toolsare all potential candidates.
