Gah I started editing my last post and forgot I was editing so took my long sweet time about it. "blush" i should have wrote a new post instead.

Ah well, check my last post out, most likely changed. Not touching it anymore, promise.

I need to start taking more time typing and editing less. The right to edit is spoiling me.

This will bring the birth of the Smuggler Bot!

Just like buf bots we can automate our acceptance to a group then automate an auto 'follow' and not even be there while some group drags us around town running errands. Afterall THIS form of 'smuggling' doens't require us to do ONE DAMN ACTIVE THING.

This ISN'T smuggling folks. It's more like passive babysitting.

Are you just going to complain and spread negativity without adding something to the situation?

How many rediculous things can we find to be afraid of?

I agree that this is a bit extreme, as long as you agree that the changes aren't so great for everyone.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

No he mean to smuggle peoples past contraband scans, not stuff.

I'm not sure an auto follow in a town would work well tho.

I'm not sure I understand you SpinningCloud. The changes suggested (and let's remind ourselves it is In Development, not in TC, so still can change) are bringing us closer to a system where they could, with minimal changes, implement REAL Smuggling for us. Something you have been bemoaning the lack of in 95% of your posts here. (disclaimer: that statistic, like 90% of all statistics, was made up )

You should be concerned with a dash of very cautious optimism, but instead you start in a cruisade against the changes.

BTW, for peoples to start playing Smuggler bots would mean we are very in demand to smuggle persons trough, or you said elsewhere we would never be with this system. So wich one is it? Beside, eventually they will make such bots impossible by removing recursive macros. (yes so they are taking their time with that, as they should because macros are used by a lot of peoples, and not just to afk stuff.)

Ok, that was very close to a rant for me. I am not attacking you SpinningCloud, just trying to understand you.

Time for me to grab a coffee. hehehe

In case I was not clear, let me say I have nothing against expressing some conserns, asking questions, or suggesting some tweaks that could make the system better. It is crusades I have problems with.

Makes sense, and I know some people are getting wrapped up about "smuggling" not being in with this. I just simply have a problem that they're now adding neutral factions with no meaningful penalties for neutral players.

Once again to the above post about things being In Development, I have a question for you. Other than to lower the 15 minute timer to 5 minute, what exactly have you heard that shows the Devs even care about what we're saying or are even thinking about changing things in the slightest. Most people who have gotten responses to the Devs post the same response. That the Devs completely ignored the point of their post and passed them off with some lame attempt at justification. That's just wrong if they're really "In Development" on something.

The TEF changes have proven that the squeeky wheel gets the oil. I'm doing my best right now to make this issue the squeeky wheel of these changes BEFORE they go in so we don't get a lame wait for whatever expansion/publish that's a year away response to it.

I like the changes, they are a good set up for us down the road. Personally I would rather see smuggling not being addressed over allin GSW re-vamps but focused ina Smuggler re-vamp where it will get the attention it deserves. /shrug

Hehe! On a serious note, what do you think the proper punishment should be for neutrals, rebels, and imperials?

I think after a neutral gets scanned five times a week and fined 1k credits a pop, it will get annoying after awhile. I don't think this will be motive enough for a neutral to want to hire a smuggler to get through a starport, but do we really want the system to be that harsh?

I will confess to you now that I do wish things would be that hard, but I am also thinking of something else. I do think that the fines are a little weak, but on the whole, more players will get scanned in more places. It is a general smuggler's dream to have a whole galaxy of potential customers mildly disgruntled with their relationship to the law.

Let's say that the system is so hard on neutral players that 95% of them never used sliced gear or spices ever. It would be a HARSH system. To them, there never will be a law they will ever have to encounter. It will be like the contraband system is never put into place (because they never carry illegal goods), much like in the way that you point out in the current system plan with GCW territory scan system. In a hard system, you will get players asking smugglers to move a few sliced guns through or a vial of spice. While this would bring smuggling, would we really want to have the system that strict? Would we really prefer to smuggle more important kinds of goods (controlled resources, GCW equipment, crates of spice) or less important things (a few sliced guns or doses of spice) for individual people, or both? I am really asking you guys and gals.

Of course now, the neutral punishments seem a little weak, but let's say that they were changed to a moderate level of punishment... like 5k fines with the rare possibility of being shot for successive infringements. We would still see a good number of people carrying sliced gear, but because they are carrying it, they actually have interactions with the law, but at the same time respect it because they get hastled by it. Once the general populace has a real "feel" for the law, putting in HIGHLY illegal goods with harsh consequences would make more sense.

These players who know and have some awareness of the actions of scan teams would definitely have the common sense to keep all higly illegal goods away from the scan teams.

It would be cool to see if scan teams treat highly illegal goods much like they will treat detected Jedi... with extreme fear and overreaction!!! Once a highly illegal thing is detected, TOUGH reinforcements groups are called in to eliminate the suspect with extreme predjudice!!!

We've got way too many threads going on about this stuff because we all keep posting the same stuff on multiple threads!

What I'd really like to see is along with a $1k fine, a1k faction loss everytime a neutral or non high ranking faction player fails a scan. This would allow those who carry illegal goods to become "criminal" after a reasonable amount of scan failures. Neutrals still get attacked regardless, but at least it's a progression towards harsher punishments. Players still have the option of killing opposing factions to regain points with that neutral faction so there is a way out of being in trouble.

I also think this makes the neutral factions more neutral and more like law enforcement than just another layer of GCW. I'm still in favor of an opt in system of PvP for neutral players, but right now, this is tops on my list of things to get added to the new stuff.

I also like Daturaze's idea. It adds another layer to the "law" enforcement aspect of things.

There will be more changes to come and we have a revamp on the horizen (well, just over the CURB mountain range anyway).
This was primarily something to tide the GCW over until its own revamp (with possibley more to come, I don't know about that); the fact that they included an addition of neutral scanning teams is promising to me.
We should stick to our guns and let it be heard what we're after, but that doesn't mean we should shoot down in flames the prologue just because it doesn't include the rest of the novel.

Thanks for that Wes.

Gotta admit I'm more in the Zane camp this time around. I think the changes are good for the game - and I can see how Down the Road this could be cool for the Smuggler, but right now, right here, I don't think this is going to make much difference.

With that said, I'm looking forward to running my Imperial Colonel badness down Coronet's streets and seeing what happens!

Cheers

Our job isn't to look at the here and now, its to keep an eye out for our revamp. We won't get all the lovin we need till our revamp. In the meantime, the fact that they're taking these steps, and essentially giving us a reason to be in the game down the road is pretty significant.

Right, but there are some logical and reasonable changes that can be made to an "In Development" concept... that's why I feel like raising hell about thos changes.
