Thread: Why we lost the Battle of the Crackdown
TH raised an important point ... one worth noting again. The developers are somewhat reluctant to change the crackdown now (as far as we're concerned) because of the upcoming smuggler revamp.
Our rally point has to be this upcoming revamp, whenever it may be. Being able to show a unified front on a series of smuggler essential issues will make it more likely that the revamp (whenever it comes) will be palatable to most of us.
It wasn't your job to devalue the opinions that you disagreed with. And then downplay them by saying they were a "minority".
Count up the people on the unoffical poll a few days back. The forum was very much divided evenly on the issue.
Funny how your responses here are 20 times worse then anything that was said in the past few weeks. Way to make our boards a much unfriendlier place.

I no longer have a title to worry about. Yes there were alot of people
that didnt have a clue what the patch was about. Thats not my fault. Tell me of all the dire
consequences that were predicted by the pony crew how many of them came true. Ill tell you none.
Smugglers are the same as they were 2 weeks ago. This was a gcw content patch not a smuggler patch.
We all want smuggler content. Some people want to be ups drivers and some of us want to be smugglers,
rogues, underworld bosses. You dont get that from delievering small packages
of spice to yavin 4 for your buddy.
Caution SanTsu we all want better things for Smugglers.

Tell me where the Imperial Crackdown is, period. Maybe if it was actually in the game in any real way we could find out how it has affected anyone.
And you still don't seem to get that we were more focused on the precedent that this set, and the fact that if the Devs authorized contraband and entrenched the idea that it was free and easy for anyone, it wouldaffect thefuture of Smugglers. We were fighting for our future more than our present, and you weren't fighting at all. You have a thousand times more passion in this thread alone than you did in anything related to Smugglers in the Correspondent's Forum (well, other than when you started repeatedly flaming SirVimes for no apparent reason).
You slept through the biggestSmuggler-related developmentin SWG history - the one that would pave the way and set the moodfor a future overhaul -and now you complain that we fought for what we believed in. Having seen your performance on the Correspondent's Forum, it was obviously more urgent than some of even suspected that we try to wake you up and get you moving. It's a pity we couldn't see that a month ago when there was still a remote chance of stopping the trains from wrecking.
think something they can trash a whole forum. You still live in a fantasy world
thinking this patch was about smuggling. It had nothing to do with smuggling.
You say some precendent was set but nothing was set by this patch except the color of my swoop.
being able to escape one scan a week is not a skill i mind sharing with imp officers.

Guys, even if he wasn't representing your views, that doesn't mean he wasn't representing the smuggler's views. 3-4 vocal people do not speak for the whole profession.
Just because a few people lead the charge doesn't mean there's nobody behind them. Too many cooks spoil the soup, and we had no shortage of cooks.
Regardless, go back and read those threads. You'll see a lot of vocal support by people who presented clear arguments. What you won't see are many counterpoints other than "wait and see."
The sad joke on a lot of the "wait and see" corps is that they seem even more disillusioned with the rest of us, because they waited, they saw, and nowthey don't seem to like how it has panned out. If the Crackdown ever DOES go into effect in a real way, I'm sure people will finally realize the implications that we discussed before - especially the psychological precedent that the Devs set by giving contraband immunity to a segment of the players, as well as allowing a droid loophole to addict people to the idea that they can and should be able to skirt contraband scans for a one-time payment of a few thousand credits.
And tell me, how many people have been asked to group for their vaunted contraband evasion skills? How valuable were those skill in the current set-up of the crackdown? How valuable will they be if the scans get racheted up but some people have immunity, whether official (Imperials) or de facto (droids)?

You continue to miss the point. If players feel entitled to certain things, that should be illegal, then there will be nothing for us to smuggle in the future. Stop thinking about the now. And start thinking about the future.

I've been debating on posting in a new thread my unofficial state of the profession for public criticism/display.
I'm just trying to get all the updates in there, and if they have additions, I could change that too.
If you would rather I not do so, please let me know shortly, because I have the feeling waiting will not benefit us any at this point where we seem on the verge of having the developers actually telling us something.

Now you to me.
Go ahead It doesnt bother me.
Now I also publically apologised to you when I preemptively posted it in your old State of Profession post, and you acknowledged it and said it was ok. That type of thing.
To say I never treated you with respect is an all out lie SanTsu.
