12 buttons.... yes, you'll use all of them and wonder how you managed without them.

/agree

Its actually 10 buttons, a hat, and a trigger, but still if you are any sort of pilot, you should use them all.

i found the thing to be waaaaay cumbersome.. i felt it would be good for landing a C5 cargo plane, or operating a subway car, but very annoying when making tiny adjustments to aim... IMO. I used to use a PS2ishgame pad but if you get used to the mouse.......

I know that sounds rookie and i was like "hah! idiots using the mouse.." but nah... when u get used to it its badass.

MS doesn't make sticks anymore? Shame, that's one of the things they actually excelled at.

Haven't had a working stick in a while need to get a new one, hehheh, might have to be that x52, based solely on drool factor

I use the Saitek X45. Dare I say it's the last stick I'll probably ever buy. I've looked at the X52 and its a bit much for me.

Be careful about programing the fancy Saitek sticks though. For those who don't know, after you install it, Windows installs another keyboard and mouse. This is so you can use the stick's programing to asign keyboard keystrokes to the buttons. If you get fancy with the programing, you may run into weird "conflicts" with the keymaper. At one point I was launching countermeasures everytime I hit the button I programed to Dock. Basicaly, pick either the keymaper or the Joystick's program to run the game, not both.

I got ultra fancy with mine. I have a Flight mode and a Navagation mode. I never have to touch the keyboard whileflying my ship, in theroy. I admit, I went a little overboard. BUT! the SHIFT mode is a life saver for me. For instance, I fire with the trigger and I target subsystems by pulling the trigger with the shift/pinky button pulled.

From memory, the X45 has 7 buttons, 3 HAT buttons, a rudder lever, and a mouse cursor HAT with a mouse click button. Oh yeah, the stick and throttle are seperate. Any of the functions can be reprogramed to register as keystrokes, macros, or fancier functions. Even the axis can be programed to be keyboard keystrokes. I used this feature quite efectivly in the game Earth and Beyond. ( i miss that game...)

I use a MS Sidewinder Precision Pro (yes, no number, bought it when it was brand new)

If I remember correctly it was the first joystick that used light to check where you stear. I killed 3 joysticks before that one, now it is like 6 or 7 years old(?) and still working like on its first day. Oh my and how many joysticks died to my brother and me at the C64... akk those rattle-games... especialy the olympic style games...

Though I think of purchasing that X52, might even beef up my chair for that...

I use a 5 year old Logitech Optical Mouse.

And I still own most other pilots in PvP space combat.

I'm using a Wingman Force 3D. Pretty cheap, durable, and light. 7 Buttons, 8-way HAT, and a throttle.
