Thread: In light of recent events, I propose a Suicide Pact. (Not real suicide, it's a metaphor)

Eve actually sounds fun... is it still up and running? and is it still populated?

Well, to go terribly off-topic, the population is quite decent. They broke the max-characters-online-at-the-same-time record just the other day, and it was 12.895. Usually it's around 10k. If we believe the commonly quoted number of SWG subscribers, it's pretty much the whole population of an average SWG server, online at the same time (there's only one server in EVE).

There's around 50k accounts total if I recall correctly.

EVE is a great game....just be ready for PVP (consentual or not) and you can never never reach the highest level. You can be anythign you want and even be a real Smuggler (/shudder). Your character can even learn skills while you are offline. Its an awesome game and tons to explore.

To be fair I did come in, in the middle of all this crap too. I don't know what it has been like for the past year since I left SWG the first time.

EQ is still their product. I will NEVER buy another Sony product. I can fulfill my needs from their competitors just fine.

so let's talk about our other options in the MMORPG genre...

there's WoW... i don't like swords and orc very much, especially when it looks all cartoony.
there's CoH... i don't want to wear tights. and the game just sounds limited.

there's MxO... i heard it's kinda lame. and they killed off Morpheus already?

what else is there out there?

EVE?

/sigh
it's gonna be WoW for me. They have a REAL Rogue class, with REAL Rogue skills. The non-combat stuff isn't as deep as SWG, sure, nothing is though, and as SWG has proven time and again, I can make my own damn non-combat content.

what kinda rogue class are we talkin?

i can overcome the cartoony lameness of the game if it's fun enough... although i heard it gets really lame fairly quickly because you run out of things to do once you hit a certain level.

I would definately recommend AGAINST Matrix Online - For all of you that don't already know - It's now an SOE owned venture.

What do you do once you hit CL80, which happens in a few days, maybe a week tops? You sit around and b*tch in the forums, you PvP, you RP, or you grind Jedi.

WoW has raid dungeons that requires groups of 40 people to fight, and they keep adding new ones. They have a wildly popular PvP system, the "potential" to RP, etc. Same stuff every other MMO presents you with when you've maxed out.

God I sound like a commercial. Don't get me wrong, when WoW was about to come out I looked at it and said, hey this looks pretty cool, like EQ done right. I was going to switch. Then I read further and decided SWG had more depth to it, what with the non-combat profs and all, so I stuck with SWG. And sure enough, the reports trickled in, people who left swg came back and said it's not deep enough.

But it's my second choice. And there are ""Professions" you can take up, more like EQ style, where they're an aside or supplement to your "class"

But anyway to the meat and potatoes: The Rogue Class

You "live" in the Star Wars universe. Which, I'd guess, is infinitely more appealing to anyone who's a SW fan than living in the random Warcraft fantasy hodgepodge.

But then again, WOW isn't meant to be about living in a world, it's more about just playing a (reasonably fun) game.

Heheh, I can't remember the last time I even noticed it was Starwars. Honestly, the word Starwars has lost a great deal of meaning to me. I actually think SWG made me LESS of a fan.

I'm surprised that for all the writing people do on these forums no one has hit upon the tried and true method of getting results.

Letter writing.

Sure, cancel your accounts and hit them in the pocketbook. In addition, send letters to the corporate offices of Lucas Arts and Sony Online, explaining that you canceled your account(s) and why, and that you have no intention of buying any product from them again as long as their Customer support and treatment remains so poor.

Also, send letters - LOTS of them - to game magazines, emails to the online sites, etc. Give details why you're not playing a game like SWG any more. Get the negative publicity rolling and force the corporate heads to start taking notice of what the kids in the computer room are doing.

Anyone with any knowledge of marketing will tell you that if you like a product, you will give word of mouth advertising to 5 people. Don't like it? You'll tell 20.

Get the facts about how posters like Angus got banned for asking for something that has been promised for years. Put SOE and most of all the people running this forum on the defensive. Make them feel the pain.

That thought occured to me as I was reading these posts. It's a tough position to be in as a player because SOE holds the winning hand. If you quit, sure they don't get your $15 a month - but is it worth $15 a month to SOE to have someone NOT complain constantly about their product?Oh, and BTW - SOE just pulled in 2 docile sheeplike Noobs to replace your one cancelled account.

It's always a numbers game - get people in, run them through the paces, burn them out, replace and Repeat. The only time a commitment to quality becomes a focus is when the numbers no longer work in the current format.

Complaining in a forum - who cares, it can be shut down - it's under SOE control and unless an outsider wants to pay $15 they can't participate. Emails? Bah - they can be erased at the touch of a button. So how to effectively complain? Letters to SOE to Lucasarts or course, but also to gaming magazines. Are SOE or Lucasarts public companys? (Well I'm pretty sure Lucasarts isn't) but if they are, stockholders get their say.

So the question is - how to effectively put pressure on SOE to bring about change. They say there are 6 degrees of separation between everybody in the world - so you probably don't know anyone who's in a position to effect change but maybe a friend of a friend of a friend does.

One last thought I want to throw out before this gets deleted/banned/whatever - any effective campaign can't be mounted through these boards - so if people are serious - a new board needs to be created.

Cheers
Dat
