I can confirm that the pieces do drop in space on the TC. I looted a level 3 damage upgrade off a teir 5 black sun, and one of thelevel 4 armor upgrade pieces off of a teir 5 merc ship in dantooine. No luck with any of the lower level parts though.

just grabbed my first space drop.. an illegal core booster... off some tier 4 blacksuns (duty mission)

but it came after 615k xp today... all from blacksuns at 3200-3900 a clip
