Thread: Smuggler delay

I think it's nice that you're finally addressing the situation, but it's bollox considering the amount of growing ire the smuggler community (which is one of the most patient I might add) has which I'm sure forced your hand on the subject.

Bottomline - It's good that you want to do it properly, but really poor form to make promises that you can't deliever on. If I did that in my Real World Profession I'd lose my job.

Resources - If you don't have the resources, then hire more talent -- we know the economy needs more jobs and we're all paying our $15 a month for a reason right?

Concerns - Using the current game track record, we can assume that JTL is going to have it's own baggage and needs for quick fixes, what assurance can you give us that this won't impact our thrice-delayed revamp?

Concessions - Considering that some of us have waited more than a year for some love, and now we're going to have to buy another product (JTL) to maximize our game profession experience and wait even longer, I think we should be getting some Smuggler specific loot to appease our general resentment!

Folks,

I totally understand how angry you are right now. I can't tell you how difficult it is for us to have to move your revamp back... but I really do feel that it is the right thing to do for all parties concerned, and for the overall state of the game. The large systems we are revamping really need our full attention. We have been absolutely killing our designers, and they need to have a life. This means not crunching them 7 days a week for months at a time.

We did not want to rush out some crappy revamp for you in order to fulfil our commitment. We also strongly feel that some aspect of smuggling should be done in space, so it makes sense to do it after JTL. I am so sorry, but I think it is better to be straight up with you guys than to mislead you about what we can do, or put out something that we, and you, are not going to be proud of.

We are at the FF right now, so TH and I are going to be fairly unavailable at this time, but we will spend some time with you next week.

Again, my apologies, but we want to make your profession all it can be. We can't do that right now, but we will.

thx,

- Gary

You've been misleading this profession and these people since day one. Your pat words of how you "understand how angry you are" and how you can't tell us "how difficult it was to move your revamp back" just don't cut it anymore. You obviouslydon't understand, and it wasn't that damn difficult, because you still went through with it, knowing what kind of reaction you'd get here. So far, all you've done is break the things that were working well for us, and not given us anything useful in return. Even the little stuff that webeg for gets overlooked, like simply putting text in the incomplete boxes in our existing skill set. Now come on - we aren't even documented, and you give Image Designers Holo Emotes. What do you think that says to us about where we stand in your precious viewpoint?

And as far as being at the Fan Fest and unavailable goes, we won't even notice your absence since you don't communicate with us anyway. I'll believe your statement of"spending time withyou next week" when I see it, and frankly I won't put any stock in what you have to say then because you and your team have lied so many times its impossible to trust you. I'm not even sure what to tell you to do to earn back that trust because at this point, no one that's been around a while will look at you with anything less than suspicion.

You want to make us the best we can be? Then work with us. Give us a solid date to hang your hat on. Let us know we matter. Give us some little things that won't drive your precious developers into the ground - or are they too busy hosting NPC royal rumbles to actually do any real work? Because frankly, we ALL KNOW how important it is to know which NPC is the toughest in the game when Rangers, Bounty Hunters, Smugglers, andPistoleers aren't even working correctly.

In closing, just take a look at a list of the lies a player called Electricnomad compiled before your team drove him from the game. It's revealing in just how badly we've been treated by the people in your company, and will show you why you are being met with open hostility by a lot of people after this latest fiasco. I'm sure Caylin can direct you to that compilation. But since you seem to be focused on only one or two paged documents, I doubt you couldget through that list in one sitting. Its, unfortunately, too long by your standards.

Thank you for that atleast instead of skirting around the answer as SOE so often does.

Focus - Oh and another thing I think that the entire SWG community can agree on (except Jedi), the Jedi having a priority on their fix over any other profession is ridiculous!

I thought that this game wasn't about Jedi, but about creating the Star Wars galaxy.

I know holo-grinding was detracting from the SWG experience, but you could have just shut it down and DELAYED the Jedi profession!

Why dont you hire more designers? Obviously your work load exceeds your resources. The balancing act can only go on for so long. After jump to lightspeed this task will only be more difficult as there doesnt seem to be a jewel like the space expansion on the horizon to keep us in the game.

Here's an idea, delay the jedi revamp. Not everyone wants to be a jedi, and those who have grinded for 8 months are getting the hard end of the stick now. Making main characters FS is just a bad idea. I keep trying to find reasons to stay, but it is like your trying to tell me to play something else completely.

If anyone thinks there will be time for non-JtLS fixes in the three months following JtLS going live, you are crazy. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that JtLS will have serious problems that tie up three months of patching solely for it. So if you guys really think the Smuggler Revamp will start any time soon after JtLS, you are sadly mistaken. You might as well become an Entertainer; at least we know we will get very little attention to our bugs any time soon.

I totally agree. The delay makes sense to better incorporate Smuggler into where it belongs...Space. That said... the delays have been very aggreivating and lack of communication very disheartening. A lot of folks are very upset and I do not blame them. I mastered Smuggler for the 2nd time now and I think I will regret going back to the trade I want the most. Does that make sense? It does to those in the trade, but not those on the outside. Most folks here want to be Smugglers, period, but being so has frustrated many of them as the trade needs so much work. As said by others, giving us some minor fixes and adds may just save some accounts from being deleted. Throw us a bone, before starvation sets in please. Fixing Panic Shot and the FP purchase limit would be an easy and great start as would a couple of new spices to help earn money. These are easy things and may satisfy *SOME* of the folks here feeling neglected.

Best regards,

Dray

It is not the delay as much as the lack of communitcation and respect. No one has told us anything about anything and we have been told we would get some attention for amost a year we wish you folks had made all of this clear a long time ago. No one in SOE knew this all those months before patch 9 when were were told a re-vamp was on the table and we needed some love? No one knew this when we were set for patch 9? No one knew this last month when we were told it would be pushed back to pub 11? Come on. Alot of people have just been wasting there time working on a re-vamp that was never ment to be and then to be told for the 1000's time to put a re-vamp doc together...really now.

Maybe you guys should consider calling these something else besides revamps. I don't think anything in this game was vamped the first time around. You were forced to push out a broken product, and have been playing catch up ever since.

It's hard to fix a machine when the parts are constantly moving and you can't just turn it off. Maybe you guys should have considered that before you flipped the switch on this beast a year ago...

Sad, just sad.

Your focusing on jedi, ok, thats nice, I think while yer at it change the time line to Ep. 1. And change Vader into Anakin, Obi-wan from Dead to Alive, luke from alive to unborn, etc etc etc..

My only question is why does jedi revamp come before the combat revamp, when the "normal" proffessions where here first. I don't see why "normal" proffessions can't be atleast almost as cool as being a jedi. So many things wrong yet you guys want the jedis to be happy first.

Is that really the solution though? To hire more devs that have no background to the developement of thegame and hope they can catch on to the way it should work?

IMOit does seem more practicalto smuggle when you have a spaceship instead of just a swoop or on foot. I think if they tried to have landbased smuggling it would be halfass, they would just be throwing us a bone. I'll wait for the steak.

If you would stop wasting yours and our time with failed publishes like the Imperial Crackdown, and stop adding needless crap like more emotes and glwoing hologram cats flying around my head, the designers wouldn't be so strapped now would they?
