Thread: Concerns about slicing.

GM! MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY OF THIS!!!
An increase in the improvements won't mean a lot if the hard caps are already preventing the current slicing system to improve guns any.
the rare looted drops will be meaningless and worthless if the caps aren't raised or made so they don't affect slicing.
I'm hoping someone realized this, and it's already taken care of.
Has anybody been able to try slicing a damage capped weapon on TC yet?
As for people who are saying, "Hey! Let's make these slicing components Smuggler mission loot!", I say, "Brilliant!" But we all know that those missions are coming AFTER the new slicing system. So why not just accept the "loot drop" part of it now, and then remember toremind them constantly and bang them over the head when it is time to get the actual smuggling in?
It doesn't have to be "loot drop" OR "smuggler mission loot", it can be both, right?

I had a character locked in a prison cell in another game, 3 hours in-game couldn't talk to anyone as all my channels were locked, couldn't do anything... couldn't go afk, you had to stay active for the timer to run. Made me think twice about attacking a city watch PC within his city ever again.
Yeah, now I like that immersion, but 3 hours is a bit much! Sometimes thats all I have in a day to play. :-)
First off, thanks for posting GM, I think everyone here appreciates it

Weapon & Armor breakage has been removed.
Thanks for clarifying the reason behind this; I quite liked it, but I'll leave it at that
I've adjusted weapon slice bonuses and costs across the board.
That's great to hear
Some slices will now require components to apply.
I can see this being a nice system, especially as it ties the profession in more with more types of play and therefore likely more players. I'll repeat the concerns of others about Smugglers themselves finding it a tough time getting the loot themselves (admitedly it should be tough for the highest ranked components, but within reason); hopefully your efforts in looking at the drop areas will be successful
I've a few questions of my own;
Now that slicing will require components, some of which are rare, will those items that are at theirmaximum for acertainstat, as stated by the current balance in the system, will Smugglers be able to improve these stats, or will slicing be limitedto theweapon and armour maximums still?
Do you see the requirement of rare components for the higher end slices as a way to drastically reduce the number of such slices within the game, due to many players not wanting to spend the credits or the effort involved in getting them? If so, will this be reflected in how good the slice itself is?

Ok... opinion this time:
How difficult would it be to impliment the schematic idea? I think a 5-10 use schematic drop would improve this concept a great deal.
Thanks.
After reading all this I'm more ready to accept a multi use schematic then a loot drop. Or make the schematic a smuggler quest reward. I'd be more willing to wait for that then accept a slapped together alternative. (Sorry GM don't know if that's the proper term but it sure feels that way given the digression from the In Concept Doc to the system put on TC to now).
OK first,
Thanks to Green Marine for giving us the update.
However I can't agree with the idea of loot drops in DWB and the Avatar. In one swift stroke I am made uselessin my profession. Why you may ask? Iam a solo player (with the exception of my wife who teams up with me here and there)and there is no way I am going to be able to get any dropsfrom the either of those locations. So now I must rely on the loot-bots and macro players to get the loot and sell them to me at unbelieveably high prices.
Also, with the free market/guidless Smuggler this is going to be a problem. What is going to stop some folks from respecing alt's to Smuggler so they can be their personal/guild slice machines now? Why pay us when they can bring their large guilds/ tons o' jedi into the DWB or the Avatar, loot for hours, and now they all can have high end weapons for free?

QFE!
Who gets the tissues in an 8 man team? Who gets the Jet pack parts? Who gets the weapons drop from Necros? People work this stuff out already, splitting up loot fairly is not a ground-breaking concept.

Slices are unlimited item upgrades. I don't believe they should be free. The breakage system was too harsh a penalty. Instead, I'm enabling plan B. There are 9 components used by the current set of slices. Components cover a range in rarity and the difficulty of location in which they drop. For example, rebuilding the firing pin (level 4 fire rate) or applying a feather trigger pull (level 3 crit chance) now requires a Delicate Trigger Assembly, which drops in Death Watch Bunker and Avatar Platform. We may have to tweak the drop rate a few times to get it right.
This stuff should go to Test Center in a day or two.
I Am Not A Smuggler, but that sounds cool. If I want a power slice on my rifle, instead of going to theed and screaming for the nearest smuggler, I go get a group and try to loot the rare component and then bring it and my rifle to a smuggler. Kinda like if I want a power rifle, I get a group to kill Krayts to get tissues to supply a Weaponsmith. Kinda like if a pilot wants a powerful RE'ed weapon for his ship, he collects loot and brings it to a Shipwright to RE for him. I like it.
Welcome to more interdependency Smugglers.
And which person in you 8 man team of elites gets the drop?
I had an idea..... how about you give the smuggler the ability to break apart electronic items for their craft.
That's where we get the components for the slicing from.
Weaponsmiths / Armorsmiths / Artisans make crates of weapons / armor / powerups.
Have you ever seen a reason to keep a 'broken data pad' around? No most people delete them.
Let the smugglers break apart these items, and get components from them. "Junk", old weapons, CDEF pistols, crappy armor, crates of Artisan Knives.
This will keep the demand infor Armorsmith / Weaponsmith / Artisans and the regular joe's who find looted "junk" items.
Just and idea... what do you other smugglers think?
Bingo and why loot drops are a BAD idea.

My "concern about slicing" is that you HAD to have this pre-programmed to get it up so fast, and yet not a word was mentioned ever for feedback.
Some of your best ideas come from the player base. Why would you hide this from us and just spring it on us like this? Plan B's don't just come out of nowhere. This was in the works for some time...

Removed for three reasons: 1) It was difficult to understand the breakage system. 2) It happened too often. Although it could be slowed, 3) it just wasn't fun anyway.
I've adjusted weapon slice bonuses and costs across the board.
Adding a crit chance should now be more of a worthwhile gamble. Certain combinations of slices are no longer patently better than others. Different types of slices should be more competitive. However, the numbers are still subject to change.

I'd just like to say that I'm liking this Plan B. Not that breaking wasn't a bad idea, just it was a little too frequent. I like the idea of it, and I'll be hassling my guildies to come with me on DWB and Avatarruns, after all its them who'll be reaping the benefits when I slice their weapons and armour.
All we need to wait for now is some smuggling missions ![]()
