Thread: Help out Thunderheart Poll on Slicing experimentation
i would think that it wouldn't matter at all how good our clamps and knives are, since clamping or cutting a wire is fairly simple. the ONLY thing that would seem to matter is the WUK or AUK, but we don't make those. if quality of the upgrade kits is made to affect our slicing, it would make us more dependent upon others and would probably make the products more expensive. That money wouldn't go into our pockets, but would just make the rich richer (armorsmiths and weaponsmiths, in case you didn't get that). That is what i meant by saying i can do the job as easily with a cheap screwdriver as with a gold-plated one.
I'm talking about hanging a picture on the wall, not building a house.

Personaly I would prefer experimentation to remain with the artisans. No experimentation. I prefer to fight rather than conduct business.
Something has to be said about the character skill. If a character is a master smuggler than his skill with slicing should be the deciding factor and not the experimentation done on his tools. This takes the skill from the character and puts it into the clicking fingers of the player. I would like the characters skills to be the deciding factor.
You know some of us don't even run a factory, have never stood in a city shouting to slice, and never owned a vendor.
To me a smuggler involves space ships hauling cargo possibly running a blockade or avoiding a scan. Everything else on the ground is not smuggling. Making spices is not smuggling, slicing weapons comes close to smuggler style but is still not smuggling. I would rather not see more emphasis on the stuff that is not smuggling.
When we can fly space ships then we will be smuggling. Otherwise we will basicaly be a poor mans artisan which is what I am adamantly opposed to. Hence I do not want to have play a role that I find no fun. Experimenting is not fun to me.
Fighting is fun to me, PvE since I am not a big PvP player. So forcing experimentation on us is taking away from an aspect of the game that I enjoy.
But I am not in control of what happens with the profession. If we become artisan light I'll just move on since smuggler will no longer be the class I see it as.

Ok, you are free to feel that way. Yet I don't feel that way, nor do many others.

You don'tconsider getting the most of your time, patience, hunting for the best out there, a skill? I do. I have a great deal of respect for doctors or weaponsmiths who look for the best materials. It's a very very good skill.

Yup. No argument here.

I'll agree that making spices is not smuggling, nor is slicing. You have a very good point there, which is why many of us were upset when our smuggler skill set is being negated by imperial rank or droid storage. Yet because you use a ship in space, does not make me hauling highly illegal substances in a backpack over my shoulder not smuggling. Whether you are in space, or on the ground, it is still smuggling. Thus we should be involved.

Again, space is not required to smuggle. Last I heard smugglers existed on Earth long before we managed space travel. Thus our class defining skill should not rely on the space expansion. Yet be augmented by it.

Crafting is fun for others. No one forces you to craft. Others love it. Why would you deny that from them? Just because you don't enjoy it doesn't mean others feel the same way. It is not fair to deny them this. If they get experimentation, it willnot effect how you make spiceunless you choose to do a little extra like they have. Yet if you make sure no experimentation is added, they are forever limited. That is not good.

Like you said it is how *you* see it. A suggestion that you don't make that type of statement, because while you represent one set of beliefs, and I another, does not mean that we as individuals mean a damn thing in the grande scheme of what happens. Because you will move on will not cause the game to end, the stars to shift or make the rebels lose the war. To be blunt, we are not that important.
We should have kept all ofthis outside the poll but I felt compelled to respond to this.
