How about this idea to resolve public sale on illegal contraband?

Remove illegal items from the public bazaar and normal player vendors. In their place put a special public bazaar in major city cantinas and special player vendors in player city cantinas/casinos. These would sell sliced gear and spices.

Also institue a rise in smuggler Infamy for slicing or trading spices in public. The exception would be in cantinas and other "shady" areas.

Don't ban public sale of illegal items, just drag it to where it belongs.

Overall, I do see implementing this ideas to be a pain in the butt, and I think the player base has alot of "time sinks" as it is. I think I might have to back up not implementing them. However, it would be nice that when aplayer goes to a cantina for a dance or music that they can pick up "a few essentials", lol.

Then what will happen to my unadvertised way out of the way black market vendors in my house?

You sir as a smuggler would be able to put up 'criminal' vendors or something like that.

Generally I love these ideas!

My one concern is that if you lose criminal faction points for failing a mission or cheating AND you run into the negative FP how will you be able to approach that faction in order to take a mission and attempt to redeem yourself?

Right now I have negative FP in many criminal orgs simply from defending myself from attack.

There needs to be a good way of aquiring positive FP in the various criminal factions OTHER than killing the opposite faction.

As a neutral smuggler I'd like to attempt to maintain positive FP with at least most of the criminal factions.

With sliced weapons and armor being banned goods I do NOT think confiscation is appropriate.

Many players litterally spend their entire savings on their armor and weapons then get them sliced. This is just WAY too much of a punishment. It basically erases a considerable amount of work the player would have gone through to acqjire certain items.

This IS entertainment. It's generally not a good idea to turn someones entertainment into a source of frustration.

I think that Rebel and Imperial scans could be done in thier perspective regions, but they should be conducted more for finding opposing faction members....and I think that the Planets (Neutral) Security Forces should be searching for illigal goods.

That way there isn't the problem of "I'm a High Ranking Officer, go bug someone else Sargeant".

If the Security Forces (CorSec, Royal Security Forces..etc) are in charge then nobody is immune.

This will solve the faction farming issue as well.

I do like the NPC's being of equal level to the Offender, as this will make it more challenging.

About Contraband on Vendors:

I don't really like the idea of Smugglers leaving their banned/illegal goods in a vendor for just anybody to pick up, and I've been in favor of preventing contraband from being placed on the bazaar or vendors and instead having it be an in-person only exchange.

However, I was thinking about the Sidekick that GM brought up. What if we could stock our Sidekick with contraband to sell, and have them sell it for us? It would be a lot like the Merchant Barking Droids, except they could serve as portable vendors. I would only allow them to be on when you are logged in, but it would be very cool to tell your sidekick to wait in the Cantina and do some business while you went to take care of something. It would also maintain immersion as it is a trusted associate that is selling some of your stock rather than a vending machine.

Merchants shouldn't be able to sell shady goods, that is our territory. But at the same time we shouldn't be stepping on their toes and getting permanent vendors as part of our profession.

I think this is a good time to reintroduce my 'smugglers lot" idea.

Essentially, instead of giving us vendors, allow us to place vendor lots in places that aren't normally allowed, such as near popular dungeons, or out of the way areas in the wilderness. We wouldn't be able to place the vendor itself, but instead we can "rent" the lot to a merchant (unless the smuggler is a merchant themselves) and get maintenence fees from the merchant. The technical aspects are completely up in the air, but essentially the smuggler knows a friend of a friend who's brother-in-law's academy roommate has a plot of land out near Krayt Canyon where we can put a vendor...for the right price. Just another source of income, playing on our connections to various people, and our ability as deal-makers to make money off of different people.

Very vague in detalis, but i didn't want to muddy up the waters with too much of that info here. But in lieu of Vapirerobots comments, thought I'd throw it out there.

Now, I really like the idea of black market vendors being placed in Casinos and all BUT that is a really COOL idea Vamp.

Ipseck,

No one is "afraid of PvP"...please. I don't enjoy PvP much the same way I don't enjoy eating brussle sprouts...but I'm definitely not "afraid" of brussle sprouts and neither am I "afraid" of PvP. It's just NOT what I call entertainment.

Since way back in UO I've listened to the proponents of PvP claim those that don't like it are "afraid" of it. That is pure nonsense and pointless rhetoric on your part. You're not going to shame anyone into your touted "attitude change" by claiming we're "afraid of PvP".

While I don't like PvP I wouldn't mind the CHOICE of taking particularly high risk missions once in a while for a break.

What I do NOT want though is to beForced into PvP just to play my Smuggler and take advantage of this revamp.

A non-PvP twinked Smuggler should have the means to avoid the BH through skill because the vast majority of Smugglers not twinked for PvP are going to lose any battle with a BH. I'd find it actually fun if there were ways I could employ to evade the BH until his mission timed out. Being forced to eventually have to put up a fruitless fight isn't fun.

Edit: BTW, what's to stop the Smuggler with a bounty from going afk in his house until the timer has run out on the bounty? Or is there no timer?

Neither is a long fruitless seach on the Bounty Hunter's part. And I think that's going to be a big area of contention as both professions work through GreenMarine to establish more 'Player Bounty' related content. No matter HOW long it's been since out profession got some love, we can't ignore how changes to our profession affect the other professions.... especially when our new content DIRECTLY relates to a specific profession. Not disparaging your point in any way, in fact I agree with the root sentiment... just felt the need to point that out as a Former Bounty Hunter/Current Master Smuggler. Keep up the great discussions guys!

Memnock,

I agree...which is why I logged back in here to post some concerns, right along the lines of what you mentioned.

I take it there will be a way for a Smuggler to discover he's had a bounty taken out on him? If not then there really needs to be.

However, once I as a Smuggler see a bounty on me what's to prevent me from making my way to the most travel-expensive spot in the galaxy? Unless the BH reward is high enough to cover the most expensive travel then why would a BH pursue me other than for exp?

Now if you make BH rewards high enough to cover all possible travel costs then what is to prevent me (as Master I need no more exp) from teaming up with a BH and 'milking' the system. I rip off the entire cargo and my BH friend (or me on a second acct for that matter) grabs the bounty, I let him kill me and we both profit. I also have Master medic so it's no problem healing my wounds.

Seems like there are a few gaping holes that need to be considered.

On one hand Smugglers NEED means for avoiding the BHs. On the other hand BHs shouldn't be required to spend more than the reward they'll get finding us. And furthermore you don't want Smugglers and BHs teaming up to milk the system.
