Just had to say... Welcome back Greemarine! It's been a while! You've been missed.
Nice info, this should make slicing interesting, though hopefully these componants don't become impossible to get.

So are these going to be the new camped areas for smuggler loot? Or are they going to be dropping in enough quantities per drop that discourages campingand rivalry groups inthese locations?

Greenmarine, please, I hope you are kidding. Many of the dungeons like Death Watch , the corellian corvette and others are SERIOUSLY unbalanced and it will be impossible to get these items. Choose the drop places carefully for this loot.
I dont like this one bit, I would rather have we still had to build tools, but more complex tools where experimentation was now important. Now we will just be the guys that add in the loot anyone can get. This is NOT whatI wanted for slicing. We are not slicers now, we are installers. Not what I wanted at all.
Why cant we get some info BEFORE a system goes to TC? The info we got before is not even close to what we have now. Please Devs, talk to us first, THEN make the code and take it to TC.

Will the new slicing model require master smuggler or slicing 4? I don't have a charachter on ahazi but I would like to know what I need in case I decide to use my respec.
Will a master smuggler have a higher slice than someone with slicing 4?

As much as I want a good slicing system (which the current TC is far from in my opinion) I'm not entirely sure that drops are such a good idea. I'll reserve my final opinion for after the fact, but from what I've seen so far, I'm not impressed.

This was exactly my though - Angus covered the rest of my thoughts in his post! ![]()
On this issue, I'm more partial to crafting the parts myself to avoid the loot campers. Make the stuff craftable out of Asteroid materials: "With the introduction of new materials the Smuggler's have found new ways to increase the effectiveness of weapons and armor" type of thing.
But loot campers and price gouging are my main concerns with this introduction.

The price of slicing will be inceased considerably. Thats really all there is to it.
If we need highend loot for high end slices - prices must go up - if we are talking about a 60% damage increase on a high end slice for high end loot - then a slice of such caliber would cost A LOT.
If we are talking about a 20% damage slice for a high end slice/loot drop - then it wont be worth my time.

Removed for three reasons: 1) It was difficult to understand the breakage system. 2) It happened too often. Although it could be slowed, 3) it just wasn't fun anyway.
I've adjusted weapon slice bonuses and costs across the board.
Adding a crit chance should now be more of a worthwhile gamble. Certain combinations of slices are no longer patently better than others. Different types of slices should be more competitive. However, the numbers are still subject to change.
Some slices will now require components to apply.
Slices are unlimited item upgrades. I don't believe they should be free. The breakage system was too harsh a penalty. Instead, I'm enabling plan B. There are 9 components used by the current set of slices. Components cover a range in rarity and the difficulty of location in which they drop. For example, rebuilding the firing pin (level 4 fire rate) or applying a feather trigger pull (level 3 crit chance) now requires a Delicate Trigger Assembly, which drops in Death Watch Bunker and Avatar Platform. We may have to tweak the drop rate a few times to get it right.
This stuff should go to Test Center in a day or two.

Seriously, i think most of usdont think its bad to add components that are required to slice, but... come on.. DWB? Last time i went there my group died within minutes. Make the components quested by Lady Valerian, Jabba, Talon Karrde, Nym or someone else. That would give US something to do besides hoping to find a group that takes usto DWB, or to pay for overpriced components from greedy merchants.

One thing most people seem to be having a problem with is that the high level slices are not supposed to be easy to obtain. Just like armorsmiths and weaponsmiths, yes you can make a lower level equivilant without the best tools (resources) but those that work to obtain the best goods have the ability to make the best mods.

Oh, also... (regardless of the difficulty of dungeons in which the loot drops will happen) a much more starwarsy idea would be to gain the slicing components via, say... keeping a few of the components from the illegal weapon modification equipment crates you transport in Smuggling missions...
(Seriously, loot drops=ok for fantasy MMORPGs, but it should be Star Wars here...
