Thread: For the Old Smugglers, I Got Question

Yes, but so long as they don't turn into total moanfests, which this so far hasn't been, threads like this also have the potential to get people to think, regroup, and maybe even act to get things back on the right track. If there's any forum likely to be able to accomplish that, it's this one. At any rate, I'd rather see some discussion of what's going on than that we let things fester.
While I think your basic point is probably right--at least, that the grizzled vets share some of the blame--I do have a problem with the wording of it. All this talk of choice, of donning garbs, as if our stance towards the devs weren't heavily influenced by the way our profession's been treated, or that we're even wearing false cloaks--I don't believe it. I don't believe we have ultimate control over our reaction to the cycle of abuse and neglect, nor that if we did it would be right to ignore it, or to try to channel it all into a wellspring of positivity. It would be, at best, an incomplete response. One that ignores our right and duty to be angry about the way we've been treated. One that, I think, would limit the creativity that can come out of well-placed anger.
Those emotions do need to be checked by patience, though, and by remembering that we're all in the same place, which is something the older smugglers tend to have developed in spades. It'd be more than a little difficult to stick with this profession so long if they hadn't.
I don't know. Maybe this isn't as widespread as I think it is, but for me, the major problem is I'm just tired. I love the profession, I love the community, etc. etc., I try to make sure my posts are either funny or contributing to the discussion, but my enthusiasm for it all's gotten a little low. A lot low, really. And other than taking a break, I'm not sure how to get it back. I know this is affecting my interaction here--I'm posting less, and when I do, I'm not always sure I'm getting everything I mean into what I'm saying. If that sentiment's going around at all, it's got to be getting into the forum as a whole. It's like a big old ball of smuggler ennui.
I do know, though, that I don't feel one ounce of coldness or cynicism towards my fellow smugglers. By now we all know that being a full-blooded smuggler isn't about slicing and playing dead. Part of it's about doing our best to see the profession turn into what it can and should be. But most of it's about this community, what it's gone through and how it's hung together, and by and large I don't think the old-timers have ever lost sight of that. Watch their reactions to posts by new smugglers, to constructive ideas by people of and affected by the profession, to threads that don't have a single thing to do with smuggling but would get flamed right off any other forum. They're still all there. But something's not right, and unless we dig into discussions like this, I highly doubt it'll fix itself.

Why do I always get left out of the list? *sigh
No matter, we all just need another 5-star love thread, that's all!
Seriously, I think what we're seeing is a couple of different things.
First, new Smugglers are discovering what the old timers already know, that the Smuggler profession needs some work. They go back and read all the excellent work and suggestions and see that nothing has been done. They want the profession to be as good as everyone else, and are just a bit more vocal about it right now. We all were at one time, and eventually they'll take on the silent cynic role the rest of us have, waiting for the CU and the promised revamps afterwards.
Second, a Smuggler skill (Feign Death) has found a use in other professions' (Jedi and BH) lives. Both sides are frustrated by the use by the other side, but both sides use it (Jedi more than BH I suppose because they have much more to lose upon dying). It's a valid survival tactic that has suddenly received more attention from the rest of the community than the entire Smuggler profession ever has. Until people decide to just stop posting about it (because it's not going to change until the CU, if even then) and just play, things would be better. Unfortunately, people will post about it every time it's used against them, so it continues to plague us. The Smugglers have been trying to come up with solutions, as always, trying to protect their profession while everyone else just wants it nerf'd so it won't affect them any more.
Eventually we'll return to the more peaceful fun-loving forum we once had, but it'll take some time, and maybe a bit more effort by the elders to continue posting the lighter threads and burying the others under a layer of sunshine (blown up our ...)

I'd already read the history, and mastered cynic before my registration was final... that and i don't like to whine... just like pointing out the painfully ironic at times... my two creds.
Not old, not new, just middle aged i guess

I've been a non-smuggling smuggler since a few weeks after live and I have yet to smuggle a damn thing. That gives me the right to whine in my not-so-humble opinion.
Look, there is little left about a revamp to suggest or discuss that hasn't gone it's rounds over the last year+.
There is nothing substantially new to talk about.
Seems like most folks have finally got it through their thick heads that nothing affects slicing so that topic hasn't shown up again recently...thank god.
Those participating in the Sandbox can't talk about it...even IF there was something to talk about. This is another sore point that I just can't bring myself to stomach this morning.
Kind of only leaves the "Why I love being a smuggler that doesn't smuggle." posts. And the whines about FD, other professions and the Big Fat Revamp Lie.

I think all the "Old" smugglers are just complacent to sit by and wait. While the new guys are just getting to the feeling we were at several months ago.
Oh yeah slicing isn't random..... If you want speed you hop on your left foot 3 times touch your right index finger to your nose rub your belly with the outside of your right hand at the same time. If you do this it will be a speed slice. For Damage hop on your right foot 5 times touch your left thumb to your left big toe while patting yourself on the head with the palm of your left hand.
I could go into details on the way to get the percentages higher but I am so dizzy from slicing damage items that I caint ty.........
Oh yeah and sometimes the forums are lively with nothing sometimes they are lively with something and sometimes they are visited by others.

"Several" months ago? Jeesh like a year and several months ago.
I cycle between complacent and waiting, hand hovering over cancel account and bitter sarcasm...I'm in my bitter sarcasm stage atm.

Heres my two credits worth. This is still a great forum and community ,but almost every possible smuggler idea good and not so good has been hashed and rehashed and rerehashed. The dead horse has been beat and beat again and the dead horse is now a fine glue. All I've ever wanted to be in this game is a smuggler, been a master now for over a year , wear my title with pride. But until we actually get some changes, Im guessing the mood around here will be a little on the cynical side. So there ya go , submitted for your aproval. One star me if you like.

This is a great community, and while i've not been a part of it as long as most regulars here, my toon wasn't born yesterday either. I too would like to actually do some smuggling, but thats not happening, nor does it look like its gonna happen anytime soon. its screwed up, yes. the game has its bugs, yes. cynicism is understandable, but out and out volatile outbursts? we're all here for the same reason, or we wouldn't be here... why lash out at each other? what good is that gonna do anyone?
