Crusade against you? Nope. If I am on any crusade at all, it is against a gamebreaking skill. That smugglers are the holders of that skill has no bearing on my feelings about it. I would have picked up the topic equaly had it been a pistoleer skill.

So my neutral attitude is a bad thing? Ok...gotcha. I will refrain from that in the future so I don't offend you with it.

uhhhmm.. Gilbert was it? right...well, i'm not apologizing for my compatriots attitude towards jedi.. that's his own opinion, and he's welcome to it... but a few... well, maybe not a few.. more like some... well, that's not right either... lets say.. oh... how about 99.943443% of us here, were waiting on the revamping of our profession going on what.. since Launch? And then, just to liven the party, the mighty devs decided that they were going to throw the timeline out on it's ear, and start handing out glowbats to everyone who had "completed something". Thus ushered in was the "hologrind". Now, i have nothing against anyone who actualy took the time to set up all the macors, and wasted however much a month they were paying, so they could get their very own glowbat. After a while, things went quiet.. untill it was learned that you needed a specific amount of badges, from certain places, before you went "Glowy". then everyone and their uncle got "visits from the old man".

we were still waiting on our revamp.....

then came the hotfixes, patches.. two full publishes if i remember correctly. then there were the cries of "nerf this skill! nerf that skill!" as bounty hunters, some being quite devious, had started picking up skills from other proessions to be able to do their job, and make their money.

we were still waiting on our revamp.....

One enterprising jedi decided they'd had enough, and picked up Feign death... and started using it... now, at that time, when a smuggler FDd, it was supposed to basicly fool the attacker into thinking that the smuggler was incapped, and they'd (hopefully) walk away.. now in the following part, any corrections would be apreciated, as i never made it that far up the tree before taking 6 months off from the game....

oh yes, we were still waiting on the revamp....

so, when the jedi started FDing at the first sign of a bounty hunter, the BHs started crying "NERF FD!" and i beleive they did.... so now, whenever anyone succeeded in FDing. you would find a group of people, firing at what once was a non-targetable( i think?) player, griefing them with armor damage, wounds, and basicly a loss of funn...

and we're still waiting on the revamp ( thanks for staying with me, those of you who got this far. it's amazing i'm still writting this, at 0700EST, with no cawfee in my system...)

so now with the combat upgrade.. we now have a special.. "Last Ditch" that we can use as a last resort... and you want to know if this "game breaking skill" as you call it works as advertized?

my answer?

remember that a wounded, cornered animal will do anything in it's power to get away, even if it means attacking it's predator....

oh.. and we're still waiting on that revamp.....

Am I the only one who thinks BH and Smuggler should be mutually exclusive professions? BH and smuggler should be polar opposites of the underworld.

Captain, you are in many ways correct. No other profession has had the patience for fixes and revamps as the smuggler. Seen against that, you may find it odd that I am so opposed to last ditch. The whole community feels that smugglers deserve a little "loving", so to speak.

No doubt going after one of the unique skills of the smuggler makes me come off as if I want to hurt the smugglers. I caught some flak for that, and I am not entirely undeserving of it. But please believe me when I say that "nerfing smuggler" was not the purpose. I have nothing against smugglers and the skills they posses. The problem lies in the non-smuggling smugglers . Those who dabble and pick between the skills that will complement their combat class the best. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, the game is designed so you are encouraged to do just that.

The problem arises when other professions are granted an unfair advantage to the point of making the game un-fun. As I have said in several other posts regarding this issue, I don't see LD working as it was intended. The game design simply doesn't allow for a single powershot that eradicates your health in one go. I don't think that was ever the intention. But I don't know the intentions of the devs so I could be terribly wrong here. What *I* saw LD was supposed to do, was in fact inflict a great amount of damage, yes. But not to the point where a fully buffed, 100% health player loses the match in one shot. That, IMHO, consitutes a gamebreaking move.

I would be happy with LD doing, say, a 85% health-hit on the maximumn of any given player. This means, that fully healed, he will not lose the battle instantly. But if he has 15% of his health damaged by the smuggler by the time the smuggler is about to be incapped, THEN he can get his LD in and incap him. You see, for me there is a HUGE difference in the two scenarios. 100% health removal is as close to an "I win" button as you can get. There simply is no defense against it, and you cannot show caution towards it. If you want to win the fight, you HAVE to get within range of the smuggler and thus subject yourself to a 1-shot kill. Even if you are 100% health. In scenario two with the 85% health damage, the smugglers opponent can go in, head over heals for the final kill, and the smuggler turns the table on him. But if he is weary and applies strategy and caution to his fighting he will heal up before going inside range and granting the smuggler time to do the same in the process. You see the difference?

If you see a rattlesnake in the corner rattling it's tail, you don't try and capture it bare handed. You put on some gloves first. If you don't wear gloves you should expect to die (not going in with full health or close to it). If you go in with 3 layer leather gloves, it may bite through the first couple of layers, but the last one saves you. Currently it's like going in, fully protected as you possibly can, and the rattlesnake just bites through the gloves like a knife through warm butter. The effect is that you will get no one to catch rattlesnakes( smuggler templates) anymore because they know this. That is why I consider last ditch, as it is currently working,, gamebreaking.

Game breaking skill? Would you like to claim ignorance or arrogance for this remark?

Ignorance would be if you really don't understand how this special works because it seems you really don't. Last ditch is exactly what it says, it's a last chance shot to save your butt in combat, not an opening one shot kill. This skill relies as much on timing and luck as it does on skill mods. The player has to use it at a precise time in order to get the shot off and do a serious amount of damage. If it's not used properly, it get's the player using it killed. Incapping yourself is a common oocurence when using Last Ditch in case you didn't know that.

Arrogance would be the fact that Jedi want it all. They want to be the only ones with powerful attacks, super defenses, and the overall ability to beat another player one on one. That would be great if you guys actually stayed in your own little corner of the world like you're supposed to, but you dont wan't to. You want to dive into the gameplay of others. Any time any player has some sort of skill or special that keeps you from killing anything and everything in the game you call it game breaking. Jedi have abused and exploited more in this game than all the other professions combined, but when a skill is working as intended you try to claim it an exploit or game breaking.

You want to talk gamebreaking, take a look at nearly all of the Jedi skills.

I think it's time you learn how to actually play the game instead of building the template that will make you most powerful. All the power in the world will do nothing if you don't know how to wield it.

I think it's time for you to step off because you're either sadly misguided or you're completely self centered and arrogant to the point that it's made you inept in combat.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Well said. /e applud.

Just take back the pathetic move of letting jedi take ay other tree. "Nope, jedi trees. That's what you get. Go away. You opened up a new slot on the server, go play your new jedi only character." <--oh a combat balance fix

Anyway, let the jedi talk. Do not be baited fellow scoundrels. Ignore them and they go away, just like their rancor-dung religion and the parasites they're riddled with.

**I sense this is an alternate reality, where the force is stronger, and the jedi apparently just went on vacation to Bespin instead of being all but externinated as they were in canon texts.**

Gilbert,

You say you are coming here with a 'neutral attitude', yet you are the one on the Jedi forums pushing for LD to be 'fixed' !!!!

Don't be patronizing to smugglers, it'll only earn you the animosity you are receiving.

it's not a one-shot-kill. Read the other posts on this subject. A one-shot kill would be an opener that instantly kills someone, not something used at the end of a battle to tip the scales in your favor. I have duelled many a Jedi (for fun and testing) since CU, and I must say that LD CANNOT be used as an opener, and DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. If the smug doesn't time his attack correctly (with cooldown and being at dangerously low health), he's eating dirt from hitting it too late, or he's dead on his back doing virtually no damage because he hit it too early.

Exactly. You need to post that in the Jedi forum. Doubt it will affect them much. But maybe, just maybe.
