I'm thinking to be a good slicer these days we need to have a reference sheet of the hard caps of damage for all the different weapons. Guess I'll be checking out the Weaponsmith forums...

I sliced a few scatter pistols the other day... used to be I'd report slices as I went, but didn't want to anymore, considering the slice were in the single digits... with one 0%, but the stats did go up a bit. The guy was happy with the results, though.

the devs have damage/speed caps on weapon creation and enhancement.

If the weapon is near max for it's type it will slice for significantly less then a pile of junk

as they put it

easier to soup up aCamaro then a Ferrari

One is cheap and can benefit more from higher end tuning, engine balancing etc,

The other is a finely tuned vehicle that is made with the highest of toleranceswhich messing with would probably slow down.

20% on the camaro stillleaves the camaroslower then the ferrari with a 1% increase in performance

Well put and very logical. We getso hung up on the actual % number, that we miss the end result. A 1% on a 400stat (result: 404) still gives you a much better weapon than a 20% slice on a 300 stat (result: 360). This "new math" sliding scale for slicing post-CU accomplishes two things:

1) Limits the number of uber-weapons floating around by placing reasonable post-slice caps on everything

2) Allows players with less resources/credits to purchase and upgrade an affordable weapon, while still maintaining a reasonable balance between the improved cheaper weapon and the more-expensive Master weapons.

Now if only the Devs would take a moment to either confirm or deny this

Nope. Not my first slice post-CU.I tried it out on some "discount" models before I agreed to slice the Proton Carbine, and got decent slices. Thus figuring that the slicing problems were fixed, I agreed to have a go with the Proton.

I did not know that the hard-caps applied to post-sliced gear as well. (Is that confirmed, Wes?) But having the hard caps apply to slices explains the results that I got with the practice cheapies, leading up to the horrible result with the nice loot.

(And I did lots and lots of pre-CU slicing, thankyouverymuch. I'm a pre-CU, non-respec Master Smuggler, and frequently the go-to guy for slicing expensive gear among my guild & friends. I'd been holding off on doing any slicing until I could test the reported low- and negative-percent slices....)

Thanks for the info though!

I was playing gran turismo and forza and sliced my 86 sprinter to around 600 hp and made it faster than a ferarri...

The Ws forums have good info on the caps (or as close as we the players can get that is) and the %s on the slices we are getting give really good evidence to support those #s.
Seems the formulas are prety simple. Prety much same as before.....base %s are limited by slicing skill and capped by the theoretical max of the weapon in question.

Did you look at the DPS before and after?
It has been reported that the DPS is increasing with a negative slice. I have seen it my self on several sclies.

No, sadly enough I did not. I sliced it while - uhm - chatting in game.

It should be noted that a Dev over in the Armorsmith forum said that regarding the %increase reported inthe system message, The number currently basically means nothing, check the stats. I would imagine this is true of weapon slices as well. So, don't trust the %. Check the stats.

I was wondering!

In the Smuggler Revamp, will smuggler be able to decide if the wanna slice damage or speed?

Last three Jawa Rifles I've sliced got 30% damage increases- and they had different serial nubmers so I know they weren't from the same manufacturing batch.

I just about shat myself when I saw that.
