Thread: So what is the smuggler view on the ongoing GCW heated debate?
I wrote this to Tiggs, the person I hoped would actually read this and communicate it to the devs. It still hasn't been opened in her PM box.
Hi Tiggs,
Thanks for opening. I need to tell you something. I have been a fighter in the Rebellion for 2 years now. I have a HUGE love for this game, especially fighting in the civil war, but something is changing that is clearly altering my enjoyment of the game for the worse.
On Bria, Jedi are becoming the majority of those who PvP for the GCW. This really distraughts me. I have been in battles where Jedi have comprised 65-85% of the total players. Even more dissapointing is that the few normal-profession players are killed off first, leaving sometimes very large groups of Jedi just fighting amongst themselves.
I joined the Rebellion to make a difference, but now it is overshadowed. My main point for playing this game is gone, and I am feeling cold. I once had heart for this game, Tiggs; it is still there, however, but it doesn't beat. I never thought I'd be hunting Jedi and forfeiting my faction and former professions as my only way to keep death from encircling my love for this game. I don't like killing Jedi now. I don't like the feeling I get why I DB a Jedi, causing them hours of work to make up or the anguish it might cause them, but somehow I feel like I'm making the difference in this game that needs to be done.
A game should never come to this point, and a player should never feel like they need bounty hunting as the sole motivating force to keep playing. I know you developers have to ensure that the game is fun to play even for the large amounts of Jedi players that exist. I don't imagine that it will be an easy decision for your company to make to ensure that Jedi are to be rarely seen.
To be short, this game means alot to me; it has been the best hobby. Now I play until the void passes.
Please Tiggs, please let someone know that there are just too many Jedi. There are just too many of them.

Yeah -- figures smugglers are taking the Brooklyn approach on the GCW. That being: you hear gunshots (or generally see something go wrong) you disappear, fast.
The GCW boards have definitely degenerated though.. I just hope a good solution can be surmised and (more importantly)implemented ASAP.
Maybe I moved out of Brooklyn too fast, but it's time for me to go take a peek at the action over there..
The GCW probably would be better off with less jedi involvement but for some the PVP scene was why they went jedi and publish 9 practically made jedi a PVP profession both in BH terms and with the FRS & GCW.
Most jedi want more RP aspects of master padawan and actually being able to help each other with BH, some purely take jedi to "PWN" at PVP, others do it as a end to boredom after playing the game for so long.
Its not just jedi involved with this however, youd need to reevaluate the extremely messy Jedi/BH system and the TEF system and this would take Dev time and when that happens people again moan about jedi getting attention. Catch 22 really fix jedi and get moaned at or dont fix them and get moaned at.
The first step would be to get rid of robes though, and those awful chinamans hats.
I'm only faction oriented in the game for one reason - to make money through faction sales.
I'm a Rebel Colonel, but I have no real desire to go off winning the war, it's just not in the make up of my character and it's the one thing as a RPer that really makes me uncomfortable and doesn't fit.
I'm a Smuggler's Alliance Pilot, and refuse to attack Jabba faction. My character regards Jabba as his boss.
So, here's another 'solution' for me. Pull your finger out and make up other 'factions' whether they be Hutt, Nym, Jabba or plain Underworld. Give them ranks, perks and everything else you get in the GCW. Let Smugglers sell faction for these new syndicates in the same way we do now.
That'll not only keep me away from the bloody stick wavers (who are increasingly pushing me towards cancelling my account), but will make my character whole again, and hopefully be the start of the Underworld content that we've been begging for.
What you all think?

Hm-mm.. they ARE talking about introducing a third faction, actually, it'll just take time. There's a bit more detail in Veela's E3 thread.
Okay, let's be clever apes and try to break this down, that just turned my brain over. If they add a third faction (liable to be criminal-oriented, though not necessarily), do you think Jedi would be able to join it? If not, what kind of effects would it have on balance? If it would be too unbalanced, suppose any major shakeups are in the works?

here's my view.
the GCW has been reduced to two teams with a few skirmishes. when it should be two ARMIES fighting a war made up of battles!
- Jedi should not be a part of it.
- they need to address a heirarchy of the Imperial and Rebel forces. i'd like to see each PA within a faction acting as a division in that faction's army, rather than independent groups of players with independent goals.
- more structured battles. set up as content by the devs, or set up with GCW PvP missions which would create instant content.
COMING SOON - WWW.SWGCOMMAND.COM
Where Imperial and Rebel PA's can gather to launch offensives towards the opposing faction in an ORGANIZED manner.
With battle plans, strategum, factional armor/equipment specs (and where to buy on your server), etc etc...
Launching late June/early July '05. Email me some feedback or things you would like to see.
Criminal Jedi? Over my dead, burned, buried, exhumed, cremated, flushed, cancelled account.
That's better.
Not sure about the balance question. Part of me (the part that thinks Jedi are a major part of slowly destroying this game) thinks that Jedi should in no way be part of the criminal underworld. However, my SW nerdiness says that they were a kind of galactic police...
For me, though, this would ideally be a Jedi-free zone. Content that they can't nerf or whinge about. You chose Jedi, live with it. I chose crime, sleazy dealings and shady alleys. And it's mine, all mine MWAHAHAHAHAA!
I think that there would be a great deal of the playerbase that would love to have a section of the game that isn't at the mercy of the stick wavers. Plus, if they manage it, you can get the BHs involved as well and get our player bounties up and running.
More content for them, more for us.
Also, maybe you can have the proposed Smuggler missions doled out by NPCs that are new faction related - much as the Valrian/Jabba theme parks are now.
Perhaps only certain spice, for example, would be available from certain faction NPC missions. Then, as Smugglers, it'll give us a chance to sell even more fp to people wanting to switch sides, and maybe even get to use our sell-out ability, flip-flopping sides to play all the angles.
While I'm not fussed if the GCW is unaccessible for me, I know that a lot of people might still want to dabble.
Maybe the new factions could be 'hired' by either side for limited engagements?
Personally, I'd rather see it as a separate crime war. Jabba vs Valarian, Black Sun vs Hutt, or every faction for itself.

Even alot of jedi can see the issue believe me but youd need a revamp on the scale of the CU to do anything about it.
Why? The TEF "revamp" wasn't exactly on the scale of the CU, was it? And all it takes is adding one more GCW status layer.
Adding a third faction would be just cluttering the muck more. I doubt that they will do that as a solution.
Here is the deal:
Developers REALLY want us to be fighting the GCW.
And they will do anything to get us back into that so the Jedi should know that if the majority of the player base feels Jedi mess up GCW PvP, there will be some changes.
The more I think about what I riffed on earlier in this thread the more I like it- I might even post in the GCW forum 'bout it.
IMHO, The Devs aren't thinking about how selfish we are. They want us to fight a war because we believe in one side or the other. But when it comes to video games- things just arent that serious. You have to affect ME and MY sh!t in order to get me motivated in a video game war.
It sounds crass, but it's true. They should amp the rewards and the punishments for GCW participation. Here are some ideas:
Punishments
When a person puts up a PvP base it creates a zone around it where:
opposite/unfactioned players get less XP/FP (unless they are fighting opposite faction).
opposite/unfactioned players who are not SF cannot go past or through.
When a city is "ruled" by a certain faction then only that faction can put up Harvestors/buildings- etc. Buildings that are already there that don't belong to that
faction are heavily taxed each week that they are there.
Factioned members lose rank when they don't earn (x) amount of faction in (x) amount of time.
Refuse landing and travel of those who are of opposite faction of the city they are approaching.
Things like this MEAN something in-game and give you a reason to fight.
"There is a good copper resource outside of Bestine but I can't mine there 'cause it's Imp. Maybe me and my guild need to do something about this."
Rewards.
Have Rank give you bonuses/mods when you use certain factional weapons/gear.
Rank allows you to call more factional pets.
Rank allows you to attach firearms to your vehicles/mounts- (or make factional vehicles/mounts with weaponry that you can only use in GCW PvP).
Allow Squadleaders to call in NPC troops when they are Factioned and special forces.
Give a bonus to XP/FP for having Rank in the GCW.
Allow a player to chose ranks in the GCW above COL. that would give them mods/abilities like the FS system (If you chose this line you could not go FS)
and as far as other things go...
Jedi
An FRS Knight would be able to start a Temple.
Temples would work likeBases/PAs. Those who join (must be like-sided Padawans or above) can hunt together without Vis.
Allow (x) number of Temples per planet.
Jedi gain XP bonuses when their side has more temples on that planet.
Jedi gain Lots of XP for getting rid of temples on their planet.
Jedi temples spawn Jedi NPC in an around their temples that do not cause "Vis"
Elite players would be allowed to enter and attack temples/Jedi and vice versa.
When a Temple is destroyed all members of that temple lose (x) amount of XP.
1 Temple = 3 PvP bases as far as the GCW is concerned.
Temples affect XP/FP gain just as PvP bases do.
Elite Players/Jedi who slay Jedi of opposite faction gain double XP/FP.
Image Designers:
Give them the ability to disguise a persons faction for a short buff. For example you could disguise yourself to be an Imp Corp. for 15 minutes and enter an Imp base. Or you could remove yourself from the terminals for 15 minutes.
Just limit the ability to once every three days and put a downer on the end of it.
Dancers:
Put in a spy network where entertainers could go to a WP. Entertain someone by doing the right moves/saying the right things to get secret documents. They can then turn these into a recuiter for lots of FP/cash/XP.
Smugglers:
Allow Smugglers to carry equipment/documents through opposite factioned areas and turn them into recruiters for FP/cash/XP.
Recruiters:
When players turn things into the recuiter it benefits the overall faction and gives them bonuses.
Like Deadeye project but better. Each side will be allowed to obtain certain factional bonuses when their recruiters recieve a certain amount of activity.
For Example the Imps might have earned enough to recieve the technology for armed vehicles and are working towards AT-ATs the Rebels now have Deadeye but are working towards getting enough documents to make glitterstim.
This is the kind of stuff that gets us fighting the GCW. People may complain- but NOW they have something to fight for.
If/when a third faction is introduced, allow them the same types of perks and bonuses- But it seems that a fouth faction- would be needed to counter it. Like an Underworld Faction opposite a Security Faction.
