How DARE you draw attention to the letters "RPG" in the acronym "MMORPG" that describes what this game is? Heh...

While we're at it... how DARE anyone expect to get features in a game that they pay for without have to resort to "make believe".

Show me where they said a feature of playing Star Wars Galaxies was you got to smuggle....

And, are you serious? "make believe"? What do you think you're playing here? It's *all* make believe.

Word association... says all. What does the word Smuggler mean?
If any other profession in this game has actual content and meaning like their profession name, why cant we just have the same?

Well, I know the actual reason why the Smuggler profession is the way it is. And it's not a happy one.

First, the actual Smuggler profession didn't exist in the game until a month or so before the Beta test ended. It was a "last minute" profession. The reason?

A developer stated back a few weeks after the game launched that the Smuggler profession was only added as a "temporary profession" on the ground until they created a Space element. The Smuggler profession was supposed to be a Space-based profession, but they wanted to get it into the game from the beginning so people could have their characters built up enough for when Space came out.

That developer left SWG over a year ago, the Space expansion came out, which held no ties to Smuggler whatsoever, and now you see it in its current state.

I guess I've just accepted Smuggler for what it was ever since I found out it was a temporary profession, and I made it a point to create my own content and role playing opportunities with the profession. I'm very happy to see it getting attention now, and will continue to watch and experience the changes that it gets.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

I can see what you are saying. But what i dont understand is, why the heck they dont rename Smuggler in something else. Slice Monkey or Drug Dealer just to name two possible names. Would less stressy for them and us... i guess

Hahaha.. Yeah, I know what you mean. But I'm sure you're aware that if that were to happen, then there would still be the complaining of "Well, you call us drug dealer but all but two of our spices are worthless", etc....

Some people will never be happy no matter what changes are made. We need to either play with the current ruleset, or move on.

Ya know.. i wouldnt complain if they just plain and simple rename us in.. Slicer and give us the Tools and *cough* content for it. For those who dont know.. a Slicer in Star Wars is not someone who upgrades Weapons and Armor... its the Star Wars variant of a Hacker.. hehe

Oh hold on now, you're asking SOE to create a whole NEW profession? Now you're just asking for heart-ache (grin).

Actualy no.. i dont. I m saying that they just need to extend one of our current skill trees to change the whole Profession into a new one. We are currently able to slice all Mission Terminals for a higher Mission payout.. so why not extend this to other Terminals? Add slicing of security systems (aka Pick locking) to the Underworld or Ex-Spice tree and add some Unarmed or Melee moves to Dirty Fighting.

and pointing out RPG in MMORPG.. last time I done that I was flamed for Pushing my play style on other ppl.... wait pushing? was it not an mmoRPG when they bought it... im so confused can they have some kind of mmo-grindpowerplayes games so us "dorks" can keep our MMORPG's?

This turnedout to be more fun then I first thought when I checked this thread out...

I have like the the first poster played a smuggler type of character for over a year. My professions have been Carbineer/Tailor and after that Shipwright/Carbineer
And lately Smuggler/Shipwright. It seems there is a risk to get to hung up on the name of the profession. What the CU did was to give you a possibliity to be a jack-of-all-trades kind of guy and use alittle of this and that from different professions. And in that way create a character that you find intressting to play because he is special...
I chose to go with Master Smuggler/Master Shipwright because a man on the run that could tinker with his own ship sounded like a fun thing... (and I admitt Han Solo is a rawmodel )
Im a roleplayer with all the upps and downs there is to that... and I enjoy the game alot and have done no matter what combat system or skills I had. I think the strengh in playing this game in a RPG kind of way makes it alot more enjoyable then getting hungup on the gamesystem. Cause sure the game system sucks in many ways... But thats not why I play the game. I play it because its a teamplay-roleplaying effort for me.
I dont care what name a profession have... I call myself a smuggler or criminal if someone ask what i do and thats not changed for over a year now... but the name of the ingame-professions have changed from time to time to work with my character storry.
Im amazed at why some people even play the game as they seem to get more frustration then fun out of it!
