Hey, I appreciate the kudos on the writing. That's very cinematic and though it would never happen in real life, it does happen in movies quite a bit. And the original poster said "melee isnt really a meathod u want to use when ur trying to get away", so I was making a "getaway" scene.
Anyway, got one point to make. A Smuggler with Pistol 4 and no other Pistol professions will get owned just as bad as a Smuggler with Unarmed 4 and no other melee professions.
So, you take professions to complement your style. A player wanting a pistol-fighting Smuggler takes Pistoleer. A player wanting a brawler Smuggler takes TKA. You have to look at both sides. Just because you use a pistol and took Pistoleer, doesn't mean someone else doesn't want to use his fists and took TKA. That other player would say "Why do we have pistols? If I tried to use my pistol, I'd get beaten in a second. I'd much rather run up, dizzy them, knock them down, and then beat their head in." Or, if getting away, replace the "beat their head in" with "run away while they can't chase me".
See?

I see myself shooting him in the crotch, maybe once more for good measure then getting the hell out of dodge. Now this may be just me,but Star Wars to me means Blasters. But right now if you use a blaster of any type you will get chopped up by ,no not a lightsaber ,but someone with a big f**ken blade. I know that is not what this dicussion is about but i threw it in there anyway.
No! Read it again! It was a random bar patron the Smuggler punched and threw, just to start the brawl to cause confusion to cover his escape!

I know that I was responding to a few disagreements I had in the same thread. Maybe I should have Itemized

Ah, ok. I just didn't want you to be shooting poor innocent barflys in the crotch.

its plain facts he just doesnt want to face the truth. smuggler w/ a melee attack who is no other melee profeessionm will get owned if he uses that attack. think about it. we are not all brawlers. for those who are not brawlers a melee proffession does nothing but make us want to use it...
The same could be said for smugglers who only use pistols (without picking up pistoleer).........sorry but your argument is you dont want melee attacks because you dont use them, but not every smuggler uses the pistol either. Some of usactually build upon the unnarmed pre-req that we have. Bottom line is that if smugglers don't pick up either pistoleer or tka they will get owned anyway. So why cater the proffesion to those smugglers who only want to use pistols. The fact is I love the smuggler proffesion because there are a lot of options on how I create my template

i think that would be good, but.........with all weapons? i donno mabye just with unarmed and pistol /shrug but the universal thing sounds awesome. mabye they can give us like a suprize shot/punch to get out of feign death, so like u feigned deathed and someones standing over u and u shoot/kick/punch his balls off, pulling u out of the feign death. i donno just a suggesting for moves.

Either way smuggler alone will get you beat down in a one on one fight. Everyone has a combat prof backing it up. Wether it is pistoleer or TKA doesnt matter. Since the tree is called DIRTY FIGHTING and doenst really give us an mods to speed or damage then why dont they just give us one move for both pistol and unarmed each box... Let US choose wether we want melee or pistols or BOTH.
I myself would still use pistols more

I see your point about the potential of loosing a ranged special in exchange... so let me suggest something more "Universal":
Instead of adding, and possibly removing, "weapon-specific" specials to the DF line, instead simply make the DF specials "non-weapon-specific". The specials would simply be applicable to all certified attacks: Low blow with pistol, rifle, carbine, sword, fists... it all does the same thing: A modifier to damage and a potential temporary "knock-down" of the target. Last ditch would simply be a damage mod on any attack, Panic shot a ranged pause for any weapon, etc. And dont stop with ground-pounder weapons. Han could have arguably used FD when detaching from the Star Destroyer in Empire, and Panic Shot when straffeing the TIEs in the trench at the end of A New Hope.
That way, everybody is happy, and we dont end up with a huge mess of a DF line.

hey thats the facts, they could add the melee move for master. but who knows if they will or wont. so w/ all of u chanting, I want melee move. I'd think 2ce before it. u might have 1 of ur ranged taken or away and that wont do anything.
