Thread: Master Smugglers get a HUGE slicing bonus?
Dars,
I have to agree somewhat. The 100% guarantee at slice IV forces the novice smugglers to deal with the advanced smugglers (or master smugglers) so that they can get clamps. At IV, you don't really need the xp. It seems the real downside is for those at IV that wish to make money slicing rather than selling slicing supplies. But...it really does keep the grind out of slicing for those that know how to play the class.
I like to make money slicing but I really don't make enough to cut out all my other activities and don't really want to. I still have hundreds of thousands of pistol xp to get as well as combat xp for the melee defense in pistoleer. Making money slicing has a trade off. Stay in the city and slice for a fee or get out in the field and slice for fun.
I made slice II probably two weeks ago and I'm only halfway to III and that doesn't bother me at all. Slicing armor would be nice but most people want weapon slices anyway so I don't feel like I'm losing out. I grabbed about 75 clamps and WUKs and haven't even emptied out the first crate yet. I have a long long way to go before I'll hit Rogue or Fixer (I'll have dirty fighting II by tomorrow -- maybe) so I don't feel there is a rush. For someone that thinks slicing is fun more than income, I am in a great spot career wise.
Still, it does seem that getting master slicer should have some benefit but a strong argument can be made that the clamp is the benefit even if the % drops a bit. I can still live with it but the lack of understanding of the public at large ends up hurting those players that insinst on a master slicer but won't go find a master smuggler. I wouldn't mind putting the schematic for the clamp at III and then giving a boost to weapons at IV and armor boostat Master Smuggler. But that still wouldn't address the issue of slicers not needing the xp being the ones that can give the best increase -- forcing a slicing grind. But it would give the Master Smuggler skill block a little more meat. I don't really mind the way it is set up but it does cause some confusion among those that don't really know the smuggler profession.
Just another of my 2 cents...
