Yes, I would really like an explanation. I really started enjoying slicing when I discovered this trick (months and months ago), and am loathe to go back to pulling out one at a time. It makes inventory management and the overall time it takes to do a large order a royal PITA. And as many others have said, it just seems arbitrarily mean.
Right there. You said "discovered this trick". That is a classic description for an exploitable bug. a "trick".
You can have your crates of clamps, auks, and wuks in a backpack still. When you slice, they will still get pulled from the crate. You just can't wear the container (backpack) that they are in and have them pulled.
See my post about alleiviating the confusion of this fix.

No, no, no. You misunderstood me - I meant the intentional feature they added for autopulling from crates, which is what this "fix" supposedly changed. Since then, I've read a lot of posts saying, basically, their patch notes were misleading. Apparently you used to be able to use equipped crates to autopullfrom (right?), though I have never seen this work. My approach is to keep all my smuggler supplies (except one free knife) in a droid storage module, then pull the crates to my top-level inventory to silce, then I put it all back when I'm done.
It sounds like this practice won't be affected, which is good news.
(DISCLAIMER: This post is made up of information gleaned mostly from player posts, and we all know how generally fuill of crap those are
, so caveat emptor.)
