That's what I thought, then why in the name of the Jabba the Hutt do they care about balance?

Is there even PvP in JTLs or is it just one hit kills?

Okay maybe this has been bounced around alot since the introduction of JTL, but with the Smuggler revamp coming up i think this is a must...
Give Smugglers the ability to affect their ships' performance!
The most famous Smuggler in the galaxy had the ability to enhance his ships performance, as he says himself in ANH, "i made alot of special modifications myself...", obviously talking about tampering with his gear to make it perform better in the skies. Whether or not it becomes like slicing, whereby allowing us Smugglers to enhance everybody's ship parts or just give us the ability to upgrade our own, im not sure... but it would be a mighty cool addition to our profession.
This also touches on another thing that needs to be addressed: Tying JTL in with the ground game.
While a nice idea it will mess up ship balance, hence the reason it was never an option. We talked about this during testing for JTL and it will never happen.
no, no its much better then one shot in PVP.....it's a 2 to 3 shot kill.

Dev #1: "I heard the Smuggler's were asking about slicing ship components, what'd you think?
Dev #2: "What? $hit no, we can't allow that! You're crazy dude, you been smoking again?
Dev #1: "What's the problem with letting them slice ship components?"
Dev #2: "I'll tell you what's wrong, we have a very precise system in place where three hits wins in PvP. We start letting Smuggler's slice components and lord knows what PvP will turn into. We might have four hit wins in PvP, maybe even five. Good god man, can't you see what this would do to the balance of PvP in space???????"

It would in fact screw up NPC vs player fights (asa pilot I do feel single fighter vs single fighter NPC/player is balanced well). As far as PVP 3 shot kills some love it some hate it and right or wrong the dev's feel that it is in fact a balance. /shrug

Ithink post CU at master ( or possibly novice)smuggler they should give you the ability to tune your ships IFF transponder to you advantage(as the above poster said ) , give us the new uber dl44 ooh yea!, low slung cool holster needs to be put in any way ,( just as eye candy , like a belt)would just complete 'the look'.

I always thought smugglers should get the re-engineer ability instead of shipwrites, and they should call it something like Illicit modification, or Unauthorised Tuning. Same sort of thing as re-enginneer but no need for loads of part to do it, and you get a bigger return on the mods for a moderate drop on hit points and/or armour.

I'd be all for us doing it to just our own ships, but not for others.

That's where th balance problem comes in.. you do that.. and make it matter enough to be visible.. and do it along with a profession that has no "groudn" pre-reqs and you're just gonna make Ace Pilot/Master smuggler a defacto space template and not something special

I wanna put in my 2 bits...
Okay I say with slicing the ship...no...better idea: Instead of slicing ship parts to make it go faster or something like that...instead have skills such as
hyperdrive slicing: Instead of waiting that long time to hyperdrive...it'd go much shorter!
Inspection block (smuggling missions): If an imperial ship or what-have-you tries to inspect your ship, you can use this skill to lower the chance of them finding your stock.
Such things like that, rather than slicing to make things faster, hit more, have more armor, etc.
Just my 2 bits...I'm only a nocive smuggler so eh heh....and sorry if anyone has suggested this before >.> (since i didn't read ALL of the posts lol stoppid me XD)

Here's what i believe can also happen...instead of it being perminant...let it be like a buff of some sort for the smuggler himself. It ups the ships capabilities, but only for a short amount of time. Just a thought >.>

I like the idea of modifying our ships.
However, I do not agree that it would be a Slicing type of skill, because Slicing can not be predicted. It is completely random.
Han, obviously knew what he was doing when he Modded his ship. No one makes special modifications without knowing just what sort of mod's they're trying to do. Han obviously wanted to make his ship faster, and he wanted to be able to use his turrets from the Pilots seat. So he made his own riggings to get it set up the way he wanted.
So if we were to ever be able to make such mod's on our ships then we should be able to control what sort of mod it is... slightly increased speed, auto control of turrets, slightly more power to deflectors, or whatever...
As for this crap from the DEV's about it being un-balancing in Space?
Screw that, they're going to screw up the balancing on their own (whether by accident or not) eventually anyway. Besides, if we can do it to our ships and it is all so un-balancing... then duh, let us do it to everyones ship... then within a months time literally everyone will have a smuggler modded ship and viola! No more balancing problem, everyone has a smuggler modded ship and all is equal and balanced again!
