Okay maybe this has been bounced around alot since the introduction of JTL, but with the Smuggler revamp coming up i think this is a must...

Give Smugglers the ability to affect their ships' performance!

The most famous Smuggler in the galaxy had the ability to enhance his ships performance, as he says himself in ANH, "i made alot of special modifications myself...", obviously talking about tampering with his gear to make it perform better in the skies. Whether or not it becomes like slicing, whereby allowing us Smugglers to enhance everybody's ship parts or just give us the ability to upgrade our own, im not sure... but it would be a mighty cool addition to our profession.

This also touches on another thing that needs to be addressed: Tying JTL in with the ground game.

Yeah, this has been kicked around since JTL was in beta...or before.

But I'm against Smugglers 'slicing' ship components for other payers. Hell, I'm against Smugglers slicing ANYTHING for other players because all it turns into is an 'engineering' skill...or worse, a mass post-production process for weapon and armorsmiths.

Now tinkering with our own stuff be it armor, weapons or ship components I think is fine but really I'd like slicing tied in with actuall SMUGGLING, since that IS what we are suppose to do. (i.e. slicing BH terms has a very specific relation to smuggling)

It has been hinted that we will be able to "slice" stuff for POB ships (YTs and the like, you know, multiplayer thingies). So this might already be in the works.

*Gives SOE a big raspberry for continuing the idea of Smugglers as 'field engineers'*

The only ship component I'd like us to be able to affect more than SWs would be a smuggling compartment, with a tweakable storage capacity/detection risk balance.

When I see something like that in the game, I'll unplug from my neural SWG network, put my great grandkids to bed, teleport off to Mars and gladly end my days, my mission fulfilled.

The problem with slicing only our own gear is one of balance...

and god help us that we do anything to bring up another discussion of how to balance a complex system

Although the POB ship idea might be cool, if only because they're not really viable in space pvp anyway big f'n moving houses they are.

I liked this idea so much I went Master Shipwright. Once I get all my ships just the way I want them with the best RE'd componets, I'll drop it for some combat skills.

I like the idea of having the ability to slice ship components, but would prefer the ability to smuggle "illegal goods, components" what have you to players. As we level up in smuggler have new avenues of high end components available to smuggle or sell.

As for Han Solo and the Falcon, it is noted many times in the EU that there is no more modified ship in the galaxy that the Falcon, i.e., as much as Han tried to play it off, he was completely competant in his ability engineer mods to his ship. My personal favorite is when he paints the Falcon matte black so the Vong couldn't see him before he took them out.

It's been stated that slicing ship components is out of the picture because space combat has been balanced and allowing items to be sliced would affect that balance. The game's interpretation of tinkering with your ship is in the form of reverse engineering.

However, I think it would be nice if Smugglers could alter their IFF transponders (and of course have missions/quests that relied on such an activity), create and install (akin to real canon slicing, ) AI targetting packages for POB ship's guns and a bunch of other cool Smugglerly stuff .

While a nice idea it will mess up ship balance, hence the reason it was never an option. We talked about this during testing for JTL and it will never happen.

Is there even PvP in JTLs or is it just one hit kills?
