I get the feeling the suits are pissing off talented people at SOE...anyone else think that?
I know a few game designers (who, for now, will remain anonymous) and they've told me to run like hell from the video game industry. It's a rough life, and MMOGs have it even worse because those types of games require constant work for years, whereasyour typical video game might just be a single shot wonder with the only continuation work being patch implementation - but that usually isn't worked on by the original developers,but is rather handled by QA teams.
Needless to say, in an already extremely stressful environment, pressure from suits can drive people to the breaking point.
I see his departure as cause for concern though, because he wasn't just the smuggler dev, he was also the lead dev. That dual role is a large part of the reason (I suspect) we never saw an official smuggler revamp. Poor guy had too much on his plate. Well, if anything else, I just hope he quit at his own will and wasn't fired by some SOE ash-hat.

22 Months ago smugglers were promised their own dedicated developer, and now he's left the company (not that he was ever actually ours).
There's not really much more to say about that.
He quit Star Wars and is developing a poker game. It's like they took what he wanted to do...then ripped it apart in front of him and told him to go be a good little code-monkey and ignore equal treatment....hell...even decent treatment.
I agree with that statement, although it needs clarification that he's working on that poker case in his spare time.
What's interesting is that it is very obvious that he's under a strict NDA -- he didn't even mention who he's now working for or what he's working on. Suffice it to say, I'm gonna keep a lookout to see what kind of trouble he got himself into.
Aside from that,what he posted isn't too thrilling or innovative: it's just a case sample for him to improve his skills, particularly with AIs and logical processing.Speculatively speaking,he might need to do this because he'll be involved in developing NPC AIs for games down the road... but who knows.

Hmm, I never got the impression that he had any interest in Smugglers. GM did have the interest and hopefully someone else who has that interest will be allowed to have full freedom to communicate with thiscommunity and spend time on Smuggler like it deserves.

Wow, I'm shocked....I guess it's not SOE's business to keep us informed about things like this but damn, what's gonna happen now? Are we just doomed?
It's a terrible blow to the smuggler community to lose someone who at least played with the idea of giving us more content, even if it never got implemented during his tenure and I salute him in whatever eneavor he plans on partaking in the future. I wish him the best.
