Thread: 45% Slice rumors...
While I understand your point, and even agree with you to an extent, I am just stating a simple observation about the personas behind their character archetypes. I am surprised at the extent to which the post turns into a witchhunt.
i.e. - Here is a guy who is potentially abusing an exploit to make a buck, but he is not taking advantage of an exploit to make the game miserable for another player (if you don't like his price, you don't have to pay), yet the community, particularly some smugglers, are quick to condemn him.
Now I did the slicing grind and suffer the same stuff everybody else does, when I see something like this, it makes me chuckle because this sort of seedy behavior falls right in line with the "real-life" smuggler archetype. Am I the only one who thinks this way?
Sure he broke his terms of agreement, but it doesn't seem like he was out to flame/grief/cause general mayhem to other players. He got caught and should pay the price, but to be the subject of such scorn, particularly for his line of work, I find very amusing and somewhat hypocritical.
Personally, i find the guy who goes out of his way to calculate the slicing percentage factors of the weaponshops he visits to be much more annoying. I'm not saying he's not just, or at fault to make these realizations, it's just a little too **edit** retentive for my tastes.
That being said, I don't even know the guy and I don't condone the usage of exploits, I just find the whole process to be an intriguing look at the "rogue" character and the people who rp them.
Anybody else have any input on this? Feel free to flame on, I can put a fire out with the best of 'em. ![]()
"You can roleplay a Smuggler but you cannot draw the parallel of someone using a game exploit as roleplaying his Smuggler toon. Those are diametric opposites. "
Maybe in his case this is true, but I don't think it's mutually exclusive.
Consequently, I never said that using a game exploit was roleplaying his Smuggler toon. I said I found it interesting that many people from the Smuggling community, the so-called "criminal" element in Star Wars, were rp'd by people who seem to be very unsympathetic to an actual in-game swindler.
Were people just as unsympathetic towards hunters/players who kited creatures in to getting stuck on harvesters, factories, etc. and killing them? Maybe so, but this exploit was pointed out, and resolved by the devs. I don't recall a mass flaming of those players ?
I think the forum flogging of this guy is a little too hyped up considering I've seen much more abusive in-your-face players who deserve more scorn than this guy.
Apparently, my observation is really unpopular, so I'll just pipe down and let the boy scouts step up and put all their merit badges on display! ![]()
"Smo-key is causing harm to other players if he is cheating. His competitors who play by the rules are losing sales to him. Many players buy only the best and it is hard to compete when your max slice is 35% while his is 45%. Smo-key also charges a huge premium for these 45% damage slices and makes tons of credits. He uses those credits to win auctions that further put him at competitive advantage. "
That of course is the best argument toward condemning him.
There is a big difference between in-game and out-game. Ig I'm a smuggler, a shady guy using every information he gets for his cause. Og I'm a guy who would call some of my friends at the police when I get to know of a drug smuggler and get him arrested.
One of the ideas of roleplaying was to play the role of someone else, for me it wouldn't be very interesting to play myself because there is already enough going on in my life in rl, I don't need to live it twice. One of the main reasons I stopped "hardcore rp" a while ago is because I had to realize that most people are not able to "play the role of someone else", some of them just have some troubles playing someone else, but that's ok, every roleplayer started once. The others however stop trying to play the role at some point and think they have to be that role, and from that point on start playing out disgusting things and excusing them by saying "it demands it to play my character right".
But that goes to much out of topic now... If he cheated, and it pretty much looks like that, he has to pay the penalty for it, he agreed to the terms of use like we all do every time we log in. As for what types of people play smugglers, I bet we even have several cops playing smuggler in this game, but none of them would smuggle in reality.
Also, people who have such sliced weapons risk getting those weapons destroyed by the Game or being banned. Most of them knew what they were getting into, but there may be a few who simply bought a sliced weapon off of him not knowing that 45% was illegally high. So his actions aren't without consequence to other players.
It's also a big pain in the rear for those of us that don't exploit because we get called lovely names when we won't power-up slice or double slice for the oober children that want that kind of service.
Sad, but true.

i agree with the orginal poster, 45% slice's are possible, i would'nt say they were common but i have had a few 45% slices on all stats on both armour and weapons. No exploit, no cheating just the normal clamps knives ect...
Sorry, but I call bullsh... I started smuggler in July and mastered it in August. I have sliced thousands of weapons since then. And have NEVER gotten above 35% on weapons period. So I suspect you haven't either without using questionable means. If it occured the odds are I would have hit one of those mythical 35%+ slices by now. I'm also sure the devs didn't flag my account limiting only me to 15%-35% slices on weapons.

honestly no b/s, i have had 45% slices on weapons ( not melee weapons tho as i remember ), 45% encum and eff on armour. Next time it happens i'll take screen shot too prove it. I would'nt know how to exploit if it came up and bite my ass lol.
Then do it please, because the only thing of the above I believe is the 45% encub, because that's what all of us get.
