SOE will do what ever they need to do to please the player base, and as it was seen with the Crackdown the player base doesn't want to be bothered with Imperial law. Most see the scanning as a time sink. Everyone wants to be buffed and have the best sliced gear but don't want the risk of "breaking Imperial law". The player base is showing the devs they want all the rewards but no risk.

If SOE wants to step up to the plate and make this game more like Star Wars, than they need to make tougher Imperial laws and enforce them. There should be some risk in walking around Theed, Bestine, Coronet, ect., brandishing your weapon and sporting a full set of armor.

Ah but what do I know...after all I did pick Smuggler on my own.....

Can't add more than that - Well said!

Personally I want more Imperials, if you play a rebel then there should be a sense of fear going into a city or of meeting stormtroopers. You hit the nail right on the head when you said "the player base is showing the devs they want all the rewards but no risk" Another part of that update is the house/harvesters maintenance change - now instead of harvesters going "poof" when you forget to feed 'em now they just sit there and wait for you to fix them which will kill the architects but make the idle-minded, whiny folks happy. Wish SOE would show a little gumption and make it a Star Wars universe.

As a rebel, I really want to see tougher imperials and more patrols. Part of being a rebel is running around being afraid of the Empire. I think it would be tremendous if Imperials busted cantinas and medical centers looking for rebels to kill. Then if you had a smuggler with you (s)he could bribe the patrol and save your rebel hide. It's the little touches that would add the Star Wars in Galaxies.

Nice, the problem is this just disadvantages rebels, especially non combat oriented players. If this is happening, imperial players should not be allowed, for instance spices and sliced weapons, and they should only be avaiable to rebels. Or if imperials can carry them they risk _severe_ penalties such as demotion in rank or even being kicked out of the empire for repeat offenders. One advantage they already have is being able to have at-sts as pets, which i believe there is no equivalent to for rebels.

For me its not about being a rebel or imperial, its about living in the Star Wars galaxy. There is a reason there is a Civil War raging, the people of the Empire feel that its too crule and oppressive. The Empire has a hatred for non-humans, and has enslaved/brutalized most. The Empire shoots first and might ask questions later.

For an Imperial Crackdown to work, there needs to be Imperial Law/Planetary Law, some things must be illegal by the Empire (spice, sliced good, some weapons/armor) and some things need to be illegal on some planets (radioactive material on Coronet, Lokian wild wheat on Naboo) the Empire will outlaw what it feels is hurtfull to the public/them, and the planetary governments will outlaw what they think will hurt them.

If this was to happen Smugglers would be needed for just about everything. It shouldn't just come down to whats leagal/illegal, but it should also include taxed impor/export items. Tatooine might put a high tax exporting water, a very low tax on importing it. Each planet should have a differant import/export system, and the smugglers are the ons who can get past all those pesky customs agents.

Just my 2 cents

I'm all for a stronger crackdown, but 200k HAM Stormtroopers are a bit rediculous. Let's look back at the movies a bit, shall we? (I know, but humor me.)

The various times we see the brave heroes of the story fighting or running from Stormtroopers, how many troopers died and how many heroes died?

Yes, the Stormtroopers should be good enough to make players think twice about crossing them, but they should be dangerous in numbers, rather than one Stormtrooper taking down a single player, much less a group of players.

maybe you should read this first, it was a few days before the one you quoted. Infact i'll make life easier for you:

GCW

  • Imperial crackdown presence has had their firepower DRAMATICALLY increased

There HAM was about 200k so thats why they have reduced it.

Just to look on the otherside. On one hand the devs freely admit that attack power is way out of whack. Number seven reason all items are sliced. With no risk whatsoever.

I am for rebels getting shot on the spot for carrying illegal weapons.

I am for imperials getting demoted on the spot for carrying illegal weapons.

I am for neutrals getting stiff fines on the spot for carrying illegal weapons.

Maybe 200k ham is a tad excessive though if that were the case on TC. If that was the case its an overreaction on the devs part. I am not for being able to just waste stormies, but I do not like the thought of no chance in hell of doing so. It makes more sense that the stormies might have 40k ham that means if you run into one you have a non zero chance of getting away but if you run up against a few your spam in a can.

I am all for being scanned in starports and at the terminals.

This is my personal view and please no zerging me. Imperials get walkers. Rebels get sliced weapons. After all why would a rebel care about the laws he is a terrorist. A imp on the other hand shouldnt really be carrying sliced weapons or spice. Why because that goes against imperial dogma these are lowal law abideing citizens. Cops do not carry sawed off shotguns.

The system should be imperial smuggler smuggles slices and spices for imperial players that cannot afford to be caught with sliced weapons. Getting demoted out of the faction. Rebel smugglers are criminals and can be used to smuggle for rebels illegal spices and slices. There should actually be a roleplay element to this.

I hate the way the system is now easily evade scans, and for an added bonus the imperials get a slap on the wrist. Infact the only people who do not get a slap on the wrist who are rebels. How every stormy recognizes my BH is beyond me.

Maybe we should just start a petition on this site pushing for these things and spread the word to collect signatures.
