Nick,

Sorry but I don't get why we care about the crackdown as the patrols are stationed now.

Reason is that unless they are at starports nobody is going to hire us to travel around aimlessly with them for crackdown immunity.

Only thing tougher crackdown is going to do is cut back on slicing business.

Now if they posted these teams at starports then we could transport for people and return their goods outside the starports.

Most places I get stopped are nowhere near a starport.

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.

THIS is why we should get upset. I fully understand that the Crackdown isn't what it needs to be with CorSec, RSF, Mos Eisley police, Fed-Dub, and ect getting in on the act. I'm all for contraband checks at starports and the like.

But I'd like to actually put up a fight and put some edge on what we got for now. I mean, when they introduced the crackdown, we thought we were going to be revamped very soon. Now that we learned our lesson, who knows when it'll be? So why not get something now?

The only people arguing the point of the Troopers being too strong are the ones who are whing that they can't beat 'em and they'll get killed by going near them...because they're carrying contraband and are Rebels. Isn't that what we want? Rebels and people keeping contraband to be afraid of the scans?

I say we go for it and make this tougher. Try and get the scans put at starports even. I mean, why couldn't they add some art for "checkpoints" at the starports with some of the strong stormies?

Small battle this might be, but I don't want to lose another one...Wes.

I actually think this battle is critical. If the devs don't show a willingness to make it tough on those who break Imperial law, smuggling will never be anything more than soap bubbles and fluffy bunnies. I don't want to be a smuggler in a bunny suit. I want to be a smuggler in a leather jacket--and if I'm not careful, I want to be a smuggler in a body bag.

The players of this game have grown complacent. They're sacrificing fun and excitement for security and convenience. That trend needs to be reversed, and if it isn't done so here, it'll be all the harder to do so in the future.

bigger is better. and, if the problem is "stationed" teams of ST's, just station them at the front door of the starport. done.

I'd say the battle for an actually challenging and realistic Star Wars game is pretty much lost already. Check out the past few 'fixes' - new players get landspeeders, cash gifts of 75k, the whole Politician profession doesn't require skillpoints anymore, the Krayt dragon spawns (the biggest, baddest creature on Tatooine - something you should see once in three months if you're actively searching for it and then get killed by it ) are increasing, there are no more starport waiting times (come on - 60 seconds?)and now this with the Imperial crackdown.

Let's face it - the policy of listening to players is bad because most of them act in their own silly and selfish interests instead of the greater good of the game. The game is being tailored to the lowest common denominator in terms of difficulty and 'fun gameplay', and, obviously, for the majority of the players, it's not fun to actually evade Stormtroopers, but to instantly kill 50 of them with a huge hammer as soon as they say 'Prepare to be scanned.'

The same people who have been bringing us all these lovely changes (not to mention the Jedi revamp and the Kessel 'fix' - guess what, I still can't declare as a Smugglers Alliance pilot and prey on both Imperial and Rebel spaceships anywhere) will whine as loud as now if you try to introduce a proper criminal system, a proper factional system or any kind of area-of-influence system, either related to the Underworld or the security organisations. Heaven forbid if you actually try to tie in the faction points on the ground and in space, making you, for example, lose Nym faction when you blast a few thousands of Nym's pirate ships. Won't work. It's not... 'fun'...

/Agree

I shouldn't have to RP my profession to actually feel somewhat like I am a Smuggler. Currently for me that is the only way I get any kind of real Smuggling atmosphere from this game. On the flip side, and as Nick stated, we should also be able to use our skills to have a way out occasionally, but it should be challenging and exciting.

Actually I'd like to see them stationed in the landing area AND the ticket booth area of starports.

That way people can't just use us to run their illegals from one end of the starport to the other.

And they can't launch their own ships without encountering scan teams.

IF they did that then all the rest makes sense and we actually have a use.

If scan teams are roaming around out in the middle of nowhere then we are still useless.

1. Beef them up.

2. Put them in locations that make our skills USEFUL.

But, for crying outloud, DO BOTH.

SOE will do what ever they need to do to please the player base, and as it was seen with the Crackdown the player base doesn't want to be bothered with Imperial law. Most see the scanning as a time sink. Everyone wants to be buffed and have the best sliced gear but don't want the risk of "breaking Imperial law". The player base is showing the devs they want all the rewards but no risk.

If SOE wants to step up to the plate and make this game more like Star Wars, than they need to make tougher Imperial laws and enforce them. There should be some risk in walking around Theed, Bestine, Coronet, ect., brandishing your weapon and sporting a full set of armor.

Ah but what do I know...after all I did pick Smuggler on my own.....
