Thread: New Smuggler (Do's and Dont's) Pricing questions and more

I am probably one of the highest priced Smugglers around ... I charge $450 per % increase or if they want a flat rate I offer $15k/slice flat.

I have been a Smuggler for a long time (over a year now) so I recommend to people that they probably should not price as high as I do ... but don't go too low. Figure out what your time is worth ... then charge that.

For faction ... go up in rank.

I too dont charge my guild, They all helped me when i needed it, 1 credit containers to my vendor over 200 of them came in.

I am on wanderhome so id like to hear from other wanderhome smuggerls. I see smugglers on wanderhome slicing at 2k a slice and most are slicers not master. It seems as doc are doing now with getting together and raising their prices maybe us smugglers should do the same.

I know quality does not matter but, I think to a buyer if you say you use 99% tools then it will make them feel better, I spent 2 days making 99% tools(I have a master AS alt so resources are not a prob) just to fill my inventory with crates.

just adding my opinion on this topic =) I received good advice from a friend (and Master Smuggler) right after I hit master myself and I stick with it.

I dont charge guildmates or friends. Everyone else 3k for weapon and 4k for armor no matter the %. I charge less for the weapons because I make my own WUKs and I have to buy the AUKs.

I am all about having a set price for slicing for one it takes the guess work out of things, and two you make credits for your time and efforts, and materiels used..... i see lines of people offering to pay 10k for a buff..dont see that for a smuggler who is offering slicing we all have to come together on this and raise the standard a weapon can be fixed or repaired and be used for months so I dont see why a slice should not cost 5-8k for an illegal service. My price is set on 5k per slice no matter the outcome there is no such thing as a bad slice... it is better sliced than it was unsliced they dont like it and dont wanna pay sell the weapon and get your money that way. I am all about being a scoundrel. They dont like it they can pay the new price of the slice which just doubled for them.

definately gonna use the "ask me again to lower my price and i'll double it" line lol great one.

atm i'm trying to find a happy medium. between 5-10K tho if its a new player (no badges) i'll throw a freebie cause chances are when they can afford it they will seek you out a full set of armour i charge at 25-30k depending on my mood and the customers faction heh.

I was also asked to slice a Sythe for a guy, i said its 10k it its over 30%. he turns around and says "if its over 30% i'll pay you 60k" ok i thought, deal i said, lets slice away. What do ya know.......33% dmg slice and a cool 60k in my pocket. i dont know if he was joking but hey, a deals a deal

so

Wepons- 5-10k

Armour- 8-15k

Full Set of Armour - 25-30k

That perfect Slice- Priceless

Very nice i am going to use the "Ask me again to lower my price and it will double.

I charge 350/% and have had people say that its to much i will get someone else and then what do you know 0mins later their back asking if i can still slice it for them. If they need a slice they will pay and iw ill slice. Sliced a set of armor for a guy all 9 pieces were over 30% and he said he wouldnt pay so i told him i would sell it on the bazaar and he could buy it back then, and he found the money and tippped it to me,lol. As for guild mates i dont charge as we all help each other for free and friends i just tell them tip if they want and most do, some dont but those are the Doc friends who buff me for free also so i dont expect them to.

I recently went up to a 5k flat fee. The credits per % thing was just to complicated for me (being mathematically inept). Have had one or two complaints, but shrug them off. Someone else will be along in a couple of minutes (if you are ready to start slicing in earnest, then remember to make yourself searchable).

I use my character despriction to put terms and conditions (like you dont pay, you dont get it back) and a little about slicing - find it easier to have a macro with a bit of banter and an invitation to do /examine on me rather than explain over and over and over how it all works. Plus if someone asks me if I am slicing tonight, i tell them to /examine and if they then hand over their item, sort of take it as consent to my terms

Usually, if doing a suit of armour, ask them if they want to hear the results as I go - takes a little longer to type out slicing results, but plenty of folks like to see what is happening. I find that making the experience fun for them seems to encourage payouts higher than the amount I charged. Saying out loud can also help you keep your place if doing a slice on a lot of items - I sort of wish I sliced item would have its description change colour, easier for me to see, prevents lots of instances of having to hand the goods back coz they have already been done. if a powerup gets yellow text, then a slice should get blue or purple or anything....

At first my prices were:
0-19%: 1k
20%-29%: 3k
30&+: 5k

Recently went up to 2k/5k/7k, haven't heard any complaints yet.

Going to WoW.

Please don't charge based on percentile increase; people will start thinking we actually have a choice in the matter. When I hit master, I'm going to charge 10k per slice... I'm greedy, but who cares? I'm 4/4/3/4 now, and I'm closing in. The days of "5k omg lolol dats crazee bro!!!!" need to stop. We need to change our prices, or we will be walked over.
