Thread: Positive Points for the Feign Death change

Okay, you guys are wanting an escape special to replace Feign Death, I have it.
/distract
Distract would work in PvE and PvP similar to /rescue, but instead of pulling the aggro of a MOB away from another PC or NPC, you move it from yourself to another PC or NPC("It him! He is the one that made me do it!").This is not 100% guaranteed to work every time and it comes with
Scenario #1
Two factioned teams are fighting. Rebel Smuggler is being attacked by Imperial Pikeman and is getting close to dropping. Rebel Smuggler selects a player or NPC nearby that is also attackable by Imperial Pikeman(meaning anything not Imperial). This will show two targets on the screen, the combat target(which has the gold selection box around it) and the selected target(which has the blue selection box). After selecting who to use as the distraction, Rebel Smuggler uses /distract andImperial Pikeman's combat target is switched over to Rebel TKM.Imperial Pikeman is now technically in combat with Rebel TKM, Rebel Smuggler has started to run, and has hit /peace. Imperial Pikeman is in the middle ofa short delay before he can switch combat targets again.
Scenario #2
Imperial Smuggler is forced to travel through a Rebel town and starts to be scanned by a loneRebel. The Rebel Scanner finds he's an Imperial and forces him into Combatant status and initiates combat. Imperial Smuggler thinks quickly, and uses distractwith a nearby thug of some sort. This will switch the Rebel NPC's combat from ImperialSmuggler to the Thug NPC, giving the Smuggler a chance to escape.
Scenario #3
Neutral Smuggler is traveling across Dantooine when he gets jumped by an Untrained Wielder of the Dark Side, and loses his swoop, but manages to feign. Neutral Smuggler is unbuffed and in a hurry. He spots a Dantari within thirty meters, so he /distracts the UWoDS with the Dantari, then uses /peace. Calls a spare vehicle and rides off.
To balance this skill, you can't use /distract more than once every couple of minutes, sorta like how /iffscramble works in space. Also, noone can't use /distract more than once on a single target every eight minutes or so.
I've never used Feign Death in PvP unless I was forced Overt. Now that even when we're found to be Rebels or Imperials by scans, we won't be forced Overt(technically, both Combatant and SpecForces are "Overt", just the difference between PvP capable and not), and goingSpecForces will now have consequences. I would use a skill like /distract in PvP, as its not a weenie move its more like a "Look! It says gullible on the ceiling!" move.

Altough, looping macros are supposed to go soon... lol
Point was "being killable ok but don't put a big neon sign saying I'm faking kill me over my head", giving us as good a chance of surviving as using that tactic for real in the middle of a battlefield (read: slim to none), but with macros and combat messages announcing db you are right, won't work.
Ah well.
Like your suggestion tho. Very much! I agree with the timer and the "one per target" timer too, would be too powerful and grief-causing otherwhise.

Yeah, I realized the potential of a guild getting several Smugglers and having them keep changing an attacking guild's aggro onto static defences(turrets and MOBs) instead of actual players. The /distract ability would give Smugglers a good escape skill when they're getting thier asses handed to them.

I'm trying to withhold my personal judgement until I see it in action personally. I just wish that while they were "fixing" feign death, they would fixfeign death... meaning the auto-aggro as soon as we stand up, even from 2000m or more away.

I for one, am not one of those who are bent out of shape because of this change.
Why?
- In PvP, Feign Death was only a viable tactic when you were forced Overt, or in a large battle(to take the focus off of yourself).
- This will stop Jedi from using it to cheat thier way to success.
- This will stop Bounty Hunters from using it to cheat into a never ending mission.
- This will stop anyone from using it just to keep from losing thier precious PvP rating.
- This will stop DoT feigners.
- This will not keep players from feigning against MOBs in PvE.
- This will stop griefers from initiating combat and keeping people from leaving.
It actually does solve a lot of problems, and you guys know I'm not one to support the devs unswayingly. Hell, I even used to have "Event: ...will beat Haden Blackman's ass if they ever meet." in my signature, untill it was edited out by an admin.
After calming down alittle I rlized soemthing!
THEY HAVE TO BE PREPARING TO REVAMP US NOW!!!
WE HAVE NOTHING LEFT TO TAKE AWAY!

I completely understand the animosity to the devs for the way we learned of this, I say whoever decided this was the way to tell us is a feking moron and I would personally like to kick their collective ass. I'm just trying to help out with finding more positive things from what has happened.

All very good points and someone had mentioned that with the new changes we should appear dead. Since we can be incaped anyway this might be a goodadjustment to the skill, givingFD a sold use in large scale battles. It is still in testing so maybe, just maybe the Dev's would be open to the idea.

I suggested that earlier but apparently with the deathblow looping macro and PvPer waiting for a "you have slain blablabla" message it would not work.
Unless... what if, when you FD, your would be killer would not only see your "corpse" but see a "you have slain yimaz" message? That person could apply DB a second time if they think you are FDing, this time killing you for real. If they are in a hurry and don't do it, well, good for you.... That would be very litterally and done by anyong the "two bullets to the head" the BHs have been talking about so much. This way it could work, making the skill more realistic and still usable, if at high risk.
My original suggestion was that it could work now, and it can't. But with thoses few changes it might. Unless someone find another hole in my logic, go ahead,I freely admit I am not a very experienced PvPer.

We should try and put something together based on Laffy's Idea, something we can all get behind and push at the Dev's.It's a far better direction to work in then sit-in's and not slicing for the pop. /shrug

interesting take but sadly I see that this mighgt be a way for some to exploit grind FP as everytime you DB someone you get some FP. If a smuggler just stood, feigned, got 'DBd', stood, feigned, got 'DBd'......the other person could practically afk macro fp.

The thing that might happen tho is that it will work at first, than after being fooled a few times a PvPer will start systematically DBing twice just in case of feigning, making a double tap macro.
But still would give us a slim to none snowball chance in hell chance of surviving in big battlefield, instead of no chance at all like the skill is now. If you are in a real battlefield and decide to play dead, you are very vulnerable to anyone deciding to make sure you are dead, you have a very very slim chance of actually surviving...and yet some did. I don't think anyone would "object" to us having such a skill. Except some of us of course.
Is that enough? No, but what we have right now is "no use for FD in PvP at all", so would be better than nothing. Thing is tho, maybe they are working on a far better solution in the CURB, who know.
Just throwing thoughts out there.

Mm what if the "faking" not only give a fake "you have slain yimaz" message but a fake "and you gained x faction point" one too (however it is worded). If the person was to check his/her faction points total they would see it didn't raised, but that's ok. Then REALLY award the FP on the real death.
Let me reitterate I agree with Nicolas's 7 points (and like his distrac idea!). Just trying to find a way to bring part in some small way that "viable tactic in large battlefield" of his first point, without bringing back any of the others points.

Just put FD at Master Smuggler, my low level Jedi has FD and so do half the BH's. Now my master Smuggler has to lose one of the few cool things left about Smuggler. Like it was said no one can affford to Master Smuggler and be a BH or Jedi, thus solving 99% the "current" with FD.

I have to admit, I find it shocking how this was learned by the smuggler community, but the change itself does not seem that critical for me. Call me crazy, but I always saw the FD skill as something to get you out of a tough MOB brawl, not for use in PvP.
