I'm planning to do much the same. Smuggler/Commando (though possibly another profession when the CU hits), then some FS trees. Melee defence, ranged accuracy, vehicle control... and I haven't decided onto the others yet...

However it works in the CU, I believe Renn will go with whatever makes him the absolute best with pistols (since they should be fixed than and be actually effective). If that's still Master Smuggler/Master Pistoleer/Bounty Hunter 0400, then so be it.

Hmmm Yimaz, I think i heard a blurb somewhere on the forums that BH's would be the most effective at killing Jedi, and NOT melee classes.
To be honest, I think that any melee fighter should be the MOST vulnerable to Jedi. WTH are they gonna block that lightsaber with? Their hands? A stick? Plus the devs said that they will put ranged classes where they should be in this game, killing Jedi better would be a good place to start.

Cortosis coated bracers, swords and sticks...
Unfortunately for the melee-ers, the cortosis bracers, swords, sticks, armor, etc was around some 4000 years ago, but have not been seen in recent times, and are not scheduled to be discovered again until a ways down the road...

not true on the cortosis coated weapons and armor, check STAR WARS REPUBLIC #73 its set durring the clone wars, only 19 years before.

Well, it does stands to reason that at the hight of the Jedi order and clone wars armor to protect against a jedi would be avalible and not 4000 years before hand.

I was going by the book I'd read (I believe it was "I, Jedi"), when Cortosis was re-discovered. No one knew what the stuff was and in that book, it didn't just block lightsabers, it caused them to "short out". Somewhere along the way in a NJO book, Luke mentions adapting the lightsabers to be immune to Cortosis.
I just started KOTOR recently and got the 4000 years ago reference to Cortosis there. Seems there is a bit of contradiction concerning the stuff. I suppose it's possible it's secret was lost after the Clone Wars, I mean would the Emperor and Vader want the stuff around when Vader and their agents were supposed to be the only lightsaber users around?

The Jedi Order was also at it's height 4000 years ago, according to KOTOR.

Now with that said I love what you mentioned about "shorting out" a saber rather then blocking it. That makes more sense, and we need that in game. Who do I talk with about this? Tiggs? TH?? Who?? point me in the right direction man.....
It wasn't that great, except it was a surprise to the Jedi who first encountered it. If I remember correctly, it shut down the saber and the Jedi just released and pressed the button again to reignite it, then he just aimed for an uncovered part (the stuff was supposed to be a bit heavy) and hacked that off instead. It's been awhile since I read it, I could be wrong.
Anyway, the "new" Cortosis sounds like something someone came up with just to rationalize melee-types being able to fight Jedi. In KOTOR, every melee weapon in the game includes the stuff, just so they can be used against Jedi. Not a necessary addition, in my opinion. Once people start adding things like this, it makes a lightsaber a normal weapon, and all the mystique is lost.
If you have to fight hand-to-hand with someone wielding a lightsaber, you better have a lightsaber. If you don't have one, you had better be very agile. Don't want hacked? Get out of the way. Don't want your weapon hacked? Don't try to block the lightsaber. Simple as that.

It was supposed to be a "lost" and rare type of ore. HoweverI believe that the Emporer had a private "panic room" type ofchamber that was built entirely of the stuff...or atleast the walls were. It is also supposed t obe pretty much like rock, and not able to be crafted into things like swords, staves, and armor except in very small, ineffective quantities.
There have been othersources though since those books that have changed the properties to use as plot devices that enable certain parties to fight againstjedi.
Originally though ,yeha, it shorted the saber and caused a sputtering restart type of thing. It was a simple cure (reigniting the blade) but easily a gamebreaker in a fight, especially with any shock value to the jedi who's blade just dissapeared on them.
