"Visibility" is the system by which players go onto BH terminals. I don't have plans to add arbitrary player bounties as a part of the smuggler revamp. But smugglers (and other players) will now accumulate visibility points as they deal in illegal goods. Smugglers will now be able to gamble at looking to see how visible someone is (how likely they are to receive a bounty) at the risk of being caught snooping around bounty hunter computer archives (highly illegal).
This will require a reworking of the visibility code, which is currently specific to Jedi. I don't think that will be too much of a technical effort, though. It's an area I have to research.

Holy... I may just have to make myself a Smuggler with a system like this!
The only question I had off the top of my head would be:
1) What (and I know this is coming later) constitutes "highly illegal"? If we're talking about drugs pretty much, then confiscating those may be fine. That's a reasonable penalty in addition to being attacked. If highly illegal includes sliced weapons or armor though and there is a possibility of those being confiscated should the player in question lose the fight... that could be a problem.
There are always the questions of weapons, tactics, specials, etc. but I suspect those will be for another thread altogether, since this one is labeled as Contraband& Smuggling

Holy Cow !
I aint a smuggler mind you, but the creativity shown in this design document is groovie.
Now if yourare as creative with the other parts of the smugglers revamp and actually implement this,
i may retire my Jedi in favor of a smuggler.
No kidding.

Its WAY early to be talking about this stuff, but one of the discussions during the Fan Fest was a kind of "Smuggler's Slicing Gambit"for the Jedi terminals. The idea was that smuggler's would have a percentage chance to remove a Jedi's name from a terminal. If the Smuggler was successful, the Jedi's name would be removed from the terminal, but if the Smuggler failed, they would both end up on the terminal. Everyone liked that idea very much ![]()

Maybe I missed this, but a popular question lately has been "Will Smugglers have to buy the JTL to get access to some of the Smuggler revamp enhancements?" Is this too early to be asking?
The answer is NO. You will not have to buy JTL to get the smuggler revamp content. The smuggler revamp is not a part of space, but something to follow after space. There will be space features involved in smuggler mission content, but it will only be offered to players that own JTL.
You will want to buy JTL, though. It's really cool.

hrm i know this isn't about smugglers but its food for thought. With player bountys appearing to be taking off following JTL perhaps there could be a 'news holocron' that will list top felons and top bounty hunters on the server? Boba Fett was known to be feared others should get that rep too. Maybe even term's that state top BH's like a tab on a BH term?

Hell yea guys, I'm so excited that i need about 15 minutes to pull myself together!
BTW, I've got more patience than a turtle. Your (dev) platter is full to the brim now with other important issues, but what I have been able to read (very little) of the contraband system is so cool i can't even make it through it. That is an AWESOME contraband system!!!
Gimme 15 minutes to calm down okay....
BTW smugglers I was the first to reply to GreenMarine's post, and all i said was "First!!!!!" LOL, TH deleted it and took all the glory. He'll be surprised when he finds a gorg in his toilet as a prank
muhahahahahaha
Wow! *calm down* *breathe* *calmmmmm*

As a MBH, I like this idea. This would give BHs some content in a form of a player bounty system (beside Jedi) as well.
EDIT: Oops, you answered the same question even before I could finish my post ....
GreenMarine: It's not mentioned in this post (that I saw ... I was exciting while reading, so forgive me if I missed it), but will the visibility that is accumulated result in the person being on the BH terminals when the visibility reaches a certain point?
This looks really good and can't wait to see what else you guys have come up with.
(And I agree ... we need some clones of GreenMarine).

Sounds like the revamp is based off of gameplay feel for smuggler, but not making the skill tree work with the missions... and no I don't think JTL will have things in it for smugglers other than stuff for JTL... meaning if you don't own the expansion your life will still be greatly improved

Yes, that's the implication. The tough part will be balancing it so that every player who wants to use a spice isn't always at risk. High end spices will be more illegal than lower end ones. High end sliced items will be more illegal than lower end ones (we'll talk about slicing in detail later).

Green,
I have an idea about the "quasi-legal" goods...I think a heavy fine, as opposed to outright attack would be best...unless of course they refused to pay the fine(or didnt have the money), or they relized that person was a rebel....
Sound good?

Ok GM, can you give a few examples of what type of items will be quasi-legal, banned, and highly illegal?
In your example of the Smuggling mission the payout is 12k. In about the same amount of time it would take me to do that mission I can slice a mission terminal and run a rancor mission for 50k. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea but will the payout be better than your example?
And I want to ask questions about spices so bad...but I will wait until it is addressed.

Just a quick thought, GM - would it be possible to get a bounty hunter specific TEF as a smuggler if you are slicing into the BH terminal to check on/reduce visibility? That way, if you are standing next to the terminal hacking into it, and a BH is approaching the terminal to get a mission, it would be like getting caught red handed and the BH could intervene immediately.
I've always thought it kind of silly to be slicing mission terms in full view of stormtroopers, who never say a word....
