Thread: Smuggler as the new SpyNet
Well, lets brainstorm the possible problems...
...BH like to work alone ... (waiting for Jedi to stop laughing) .. having to rely on a Smuggler of all people would seriously cramp their style, soa huge chunk of BH will create new accounts so that they can have their own Smuggler Terminal Slice Monkey (tm) at their beck and call. More money - more happines for SOE.
Perhaps, but, a smuggler could also have a second account as a BH as well, asa Bounty Monkey
...
BH's have to interact with SpyNet, why not a smuggler instead. A player instead of a NPC. Even Jango and Boba had to interact with people. The actual takedown will be all the BH anyway.
My only problem is that my experience witht eh BH community leads me to believe that the vast majority of them would just take MSmuggler, basically leaving us out of it anyway.
Yes, they can do that...at the cost to themselves. They'll "waste" skill points on master smuggler for just one aspect. And maybe risk the absence of a CM, CH, or pistoleer type templete for added offensive power. And, a BH needs all the offense he can muster. In my original plan, a BH has only to take novice smuggler to access the info on their own, with big inconveniences of possibly following the wrong lead.
Edit: although having said that, given Smuggler/BH is a common template these days, regular none BH Smugglers mightn't see too much of this type of work ...
with the pre's for BH in reach of smugglers and vice-verse we would not see BH coming to pay smugglers for data, you would just see all BH with Smuggler. (well the few that do not allready from what i see)
Ah! One thing you're forgetting...Jedi will use smugglers to hide the data tracks. So you might get the mini game of a BH/Smuggler against a Jedi paid Smuggler/whatever... Smugglers of any type might have a place in here. A jedi might hire a Smuggler to "lock down" terminals in the local area. A BH/smuggler might be able to unravel it quicky, but smugglers are all involved
What would be this minigame? Perhaps a mini "mastermind" type game. who knows what form this could take, but it might be fun!

but those BH's who have Msmuggler wont need us and smuggler already dont get enough love.
True, but that meana they also cant be a commando or a creature handler, or a whatever, and they are a bit less effective than a bounty hunter that is on the offense front.
Smugglers would also be utilized by the "mark", and if they wish, just mess up terminals in a city to thwart BH's on the "marks" behalf.
I've had several Jedi's ask me as a Master Smuggler, if i could see if they are on "the list" on the terminals. Thats when i tought, thats a service I could provide. I dont see any Jedi asking a bounty hunter to see if they have a price on there head...

I love your idea, it´s great... but keep it simple:
The smuglers act as(orreplace)thespynet informants. The smugler can slice a terminal (maybe the bounty hunter terminal, maybe a new "info" terminal) in order to obtain the mark waypoint or bio-signature. Nothing more, nothing less... in order to keep it simple for the devs to implement ![]()
As a BH I like this idea. But if you don't want to upset the DE community, leave finding the planet and tracking the mark to the droids.
I like the idea of going to a Smuggler for the bio signature - maybe even have it so the smuggler could tell you the Jedi's faction (currently unknown until you reach the target and see their color). MAYBE they could even institute a fee for NPC Spynet bio signatures, but keep them in the game. This adds another credit sink if need be, plus gives you Smugglers something to compete with.
OR, you could have the NPC spynet work as it currently does for NPC bounties, but require Smugglers to get bio sigs for Player bounties. That way, the current system still works for NPC missions, but you change the dynamic for Player bounties.
THEN! You could have smugglers that help Jedi get off the terminals have a chance of gaining their OWN "visibility" or maybe if their mini-game to slice the terminal fails, they go on the terminals as well.
I know a lot of BH would fight the idea simply because the Spynet people are always at the same location, and to use a smuggler you would first have to locate a Smuggler, then locate your mark. I think it would be cool, but I think most of the BH community would not like the extra detective work. Me, I think it adds to the immersion and player interaction, rather than just walking up and double-clicking on an NPC.
GREAT IDEA! Congrats to the OP! *****

I would.
However, opportunities for the mark to escape in a totally non-immersive way would have to be reduced first. Currently, finding a mark is mostly a fight against metagaming and exploits, and not against your mark's IC wit. Adding cool RP-ish minigames to one side without "fixing" the other side would only serve to frustrate the BH community even further.
