very good idea, I really think they need something to encourage playing the normal professions so this doesn't end up a big Jedi-fest

Should also be some kind of alternative like this for those who have no interest in the Jedi thing.

I think this is a great idea. And addition pve is fine. If you wanted it bad enough you would go after it. I also like the ideas about better weapon skematics and spice skematics, but maybe not for better slices. Great thought. I think the devs should really consider this, but of course other things need to be changed first.

Keep up the good work!

As much as this might give a boost to professions I don't want it. I haven't played UO so I don't know what's going on there, but from looking around you can gain facts about all professions around.

In the smuggler profession we have a slicer tree. Finishing off that tree should allow you to get some business, but no one wants to deal with anything less than a master smuggler. What this says is if you're not a master of this profession then you're not worth the time and this is rampant in every profession.

No one wants armor from anyone other than a master armorsmith, no one wants weapons from anyone other than a master weaponsmith, no one wants buffs from anyone other than a master doctor, and the list goes on. Creating legendary professions furthers this thinking and it's detrimental to the game.

Then, of course, there's the factor of not knowing what to do after you reach your intended goal. Right now people hit master and start wondering what to do. With a legendary profession there is going to be a limit where you actually master, right? Well, once you hit that limit you'll be in the same boat.

Wow dood. I like the way you think. Cuase truthfully I would rather remain non-FS but was planning on it since it will be the only way to compete with other peeps. OMG can you imagine a TMK decked out in FS combat mods, i mean comon.

We're on the same page Biglands.

I touched on the subject to "soak up" the extra skill points BH's now have so they don't have to kit themselves to hunt Jedi.

A wonderful idea, provided they do it right and make sure there are truly a small number of legends at each profession...

They should have done something like this before the Jedi boondoggle -- I mean, really, the overwhelming majority of the game is non-Jedi, and I think if they had "legendary professions" (or a similar uber-master) then even less people would care about becoming a Jedi...

Two times the slicing XP needed to get slicing 4 already? Dude, you are nuts. I'd go nuts. I loved slicing when I was a smuggler but that was a horrible grind.

I love the idea, I think you should make it so much harder though, maybe a minimum time at master of 6 months, so only true Masters can aquire this extra bit of skills/abilitys,

Maybe just a title is all the you need, I would work hard for a "Legendary Smuggler" title!

5 stars from me!

Actually, before and little after the game launched there was some discussion about Elite,Elite Professions. Where a character could focus all of his/her points into becoming a true Master of their respective profession.

Of course none of this has been talked about since, and I am far to lazy to dig it up. The Combat Revamp would have to be done before even discussing this. Other Professions would have to have their revamps also...and we all know how long it has taken us to get ours.

<<I was discussing something similar with a friend of mine. Perhaps the onlyway to progress through Legendary professions would be through PvP.>>

This I hate. I don't want to have to fight other people... I'm a smuggler, my objective is to avoid fighting sentients at most costs... Plus IMHO most PVPers are frankly, uber-p r i c k s, who think they are the shizz when really they are hard-core nerds who play EVERY NIGHT till 4am. I don't want to HAVE to deal with them just to get a higher skill.

I like your first basic idea. The only thing is, it should be something most people can do in a week, and not a month. When I was grinding Pistoleer and Smuggler concurrently several months ago, I was on every day and was thinking about SWG constantly (the thought of having a rad character built in time for the Smuggler Revamp-- boy was I mistaken). Anyhow, once I mastered both, I sort of found myself at a standstill-- I had nothing to do. The the revamp got pushed back... for another half year almost. I all but nearly quit. I'm only now coming on once or twice a week for a couple hours at a time. I really like this idea but it should only take the average player a week or so to do. It adds a bit of realism if anything. It doesn't make much sense that you can grind out a profession like masterrifleman in a day, when in reality it would take 10 or 15 years.

I know my idea of one week isn't much more realistic, but it least it gives the casual player (myself nowadays) anslight feelingof realism by making them work for it. I would make the quests semi-difficult but intended for soloing, and maybe easier if you have a Chewbacca/Han/sidekick relationship with someone.
