yea yea smuggle blah blah, As a cause for smuggling, I want to see things made contraband all these 1337wh0r3z can't live without, and I want to see REAL punishments for being caught with them.

Group value.
eg1: Slicing doors in geo cave for all in group.
eg2: Slicing static mag seal containers
(which can generally be reached easier when group members are "distracting" the occupants of the cave/bunker said container is located in)
eg3: Masking more than just contraban, such as factional visibility (perhaps only to NPCs for short periods? Im not greedy)
eg4: Group access to content only available when "backing up" a smuggler (the Talus mission is barely a start at this kind of restricted access)
Great idea. That would be a nice little role. Slicing locked doors. Can you imagine?

I want this: One day, after stealing some spice from a spice depot, I sit down in a bar and lazily sip a drink. I of course would like a BH to come in and try to kill me, and then I want to jump up, exhange fire, then get the hell outta town. At this point I'd sit in my ship out in space and look on an illuminatedgalactic map in the dark trying to find someone who will buy said stolen spice. All that is left is to blast off and start making connections at said location for the deal...
Half slacker, half thug, half smuggler, half crazy. Living life large, on the run, and anywhere I can find it. That's my dream.

Agreed. This is the kind of smugglingI want- not missions from terminals, but to have a role in the game as a smuggler, so players come to me to "arrange" things, not just to slice their gear.

i'll take either or on this one
Ship modifications with smuggler missions... ie, there's a hidden cargo hold capable of holding contraband for running smuggler missions... you have to deliver it and return for your reward...
now keep in mind, the modification is that smugglers can hold one piece of cargo in a hidden hold, and then all ships, even fighters, can pick up cargo from ships they disabled/inspected/docked with
suddenly we are running missions with contraband that we can either dump, or fight through waves of enemies to deliver
another option i'd like to see is the smuggler's ability to make modifications to his ship... i'd like to see the ability to kind of like slice the parts, but not exactly
in order to keep this ballance with shipwrights, the parts would have to be either reverse engineered or player-made, and
since ship parts are so big, you get the option of the modification with a 75% chance the mod will work, if not, it'll never be modified
reactors - you'd only be able to increas max output
engines - you can modify max speed, pyr, or reactor drain
armor - you can modify the total armor points
shields - either shield strength or reactor drain
ordinance - you can make them fire faster or reactor drain
countermeasure - effects speed or reactor drain
blasters - you can effect either effectiveness to shields, armor, or reactor drain
capacitors - only reactor energy drain
flight computer - speed or energy drain
han solo tricked out his ship's parts, i think any smuggler should be able to... now to top that off, you only get between a 2 and 6% increase for a successful mod
granted the % doesn't sound that high, but if you have an engine that does 95 top speed, and slice it for 3%, you will have an engine that now does 97.85... could be just enough
to give you an edge over others, while not effecting the mass of the parts in the least...
yeah, i know, stupid idea, but it'd be somethin to make people want to go master

Slicing CAs or other ways to make slicing more than random. Crafted items aren't randomly assigned quality and I don't think slicing should be completely random either. Make it like experimetation, or something. Have CAs, food or tool qualityraise your maximum and minimumslice percentage.
