what makes everyone assume that this will have weapon, armor, and shield systems, or be upgradable?

Call me a cynic, I usually am and don't mind the title. but it strikes me that if they are giving EVERYONE who's been playing for 6 months (and when's the SE coming out? November probably? that pretty much assures that nearly all players who started in MAY would get one) this ship which in the EU could be comparable to the YT-1300, and they are placing the YT-1300 at master level shipwright... I just don't see how they would even attempt making this yacht more than a real yacht: something you go on to relax and flaunt, but you can't really fight on it.

If I was a dev, and I was giving someting like this away, I 'd do as little as possible to make it work. basic similar floorplan, no upgradable features, no headaches to test.

In the books it's a nice craft, neatly upgraded like the Falcon, but never quite as far as the Falcon. If you take both stock versions, they are equally as weak as each other, but then we know the YT1300 in JTL isn't stock version.

but then we know the YT1300 in JTL isn't stock version. - Sounds interesting, any further info on it not being a stock version?

The large radar dish on the 1300 is not a stock option but one of Solo's many personal modifications to the Falcon.

I didn't expect the Veteran's Ship to be quite to extravagant. I mean, we got goggles for the Collector's Edition (I like 'em and wear 'em, but it's not that big a deal, really). Giving this luxury yacht for the Vet Ship is great. Supposedly all ships will be customizable, with engines, shields, weapons, etc being placed in the "stock" ship to improve it. I don't see this one as being any different, so I believe it has potential. If it's a real multi-person ship like the YT1300 (walk around in and furnish it), it'll be a great Veterans Reward. That's what I'm hoping. Then, like Geevo said, that means more money for the "modules" because we won't have to buy the ship itself!

Personally if I'm a smuggler...which I am...I'm going to want a ship with the canons facing aft as I'm most likely going to be shooting while I'm running.

A ship with all the weapons facing front is pretty much worthless for smuggling.

I sure hope the devs thought of this little point...

Come on guys, screw smuggling in that thing. It's a chic magnet! With that yacht, we could all pick up two or three chics apiece! As the old saying goes "Women are like Voltron. The more you hook up, the better it gets." What kind of outrageous parties can you throw with the observation deck and some hotshot pilot dodging lightening bolts in the Nebula to give our guests a great view! Screw smuggling in that thing man, those things are going to be a mobile frat house with style!

I still think that it's a big gift already. making it customizable would only make it unbalanced toward the ship crafter. here's a decent ship, priceless for carrying passengers already, and it can be combat worthy? who'd pay 20+ million for a YT-1300 when they could have a free ship?

It's the Rare=uberequation all over again. SWG breaks the equation because it makes Crafted=uber, and crafted=common as well.therefore, it can't be all THAT great of a ship. a floating cantina for parties, that's all I'm expecting.

There isn't going to be any YT1300s going for 20Mil. This yacht is part of the reason. The devs have already said that the yt1300 will use about the same amount of resources as a guild hall. Then factor in this 3000 as being a balance the devs are using to manage ship prices and you'll see why the yt1300 will average 300K tops (or whatever the avg price is on your server for a GH). This is one way the devs are trying to prevent insane prices on ships. They don't want ships to be costing insane prices. If anyone can get a yacht at the 6 month mark, then no one will pay hug amounts of cash for a 1300, and this will keep the prices in check.

my biggest fear is that the ship will be single person only. Devs never said otherwise, and once mentioned that YT1300 will be one of its kind.

I found this website through google and it shows various stats for ships (including the two) ... not sure how accurate:

http://www.geocities.com/pter_essada/stats.htm

Name - Designation - Speed - Man - HD - Arm- ADR- Part - Ray - SDR - Weap - Empl

Soro..- PLY 3000 - 175 - 25 - 2 - 50 - 5 -150 - 100 -15 - 45 - 1 Light Laser Cannon

Corr..- YT-1300 - 175 -25- 2- 100 - 15 - 75 - 50- 15 - 55 - 1 Medium Laser Cannon

Presuming this is accurate ... and stock ...

same Speed, Manuverability .... 1/2 ARM, 1/3 ADR, double Part, double Ray, same SDR, almost as much Weap and Light vs Medium Laser Cannons

(note: I am guessing ARM is Armor, no idea what ADR, Part, Ray, SDR is ... and guessing Weapon is weapon power)

The other thing I like is that I may be able to save some money on the Soro ... and spend the money on modifications (hopefully the quality is there).

(Lady Luck)

http://www.btinternet.com/~kewsoft/webpage/theladyluck.htm

Lando Calrissian loves to do things in style, and his taste in ships is no exception. He acquired the Lady Luck when he was starting up Nomad City. It had belonged to an Orthellin royal mistress, and how exactly Land got the ship is still a little misty.

A SoroSuub Personal Luxury Yacht 3000, the Lady Luck is an exceptional craft. If his duties on Nomad City had not prevented him, Lando would have loved to have transformed the ship into the height of luxury. As it is, the Luck is luxurious enough, for the time being. The ship’s interior shows off Lando’s taste for finesse. When one is one the observation deck, it is possible to get an even better view by stepping out on to an exterior deck. If meditation or relaxation is needed, look no further than the interior compartment of the observation deck; here there is a small jet-stream meditation pool along with a few conform-couches. Lando has his private suite on the main deck, where the dining room, and five visitor cabins are located. Also one the main deck is bridge, main control systems, and several escape pods. Unlike some other hosts, Lando does care about his guests.

True to his younger days, Lando has installed a few smuggling compartments on board the Luck. A transponder containing three different identities can also be found on the ship. These allow the Lady Luck to pass through customs without having to reveal her true identity. Like with his other ships, Calrissian has slave-rigged the Lady. The droid brain responds to a beckon call that Lando controls via a datadisk-sized units attached to his belt. This has saved his life, as well as Luke and Han’s, more than once.

From the outside, the Lady Luck looks just like what it is: a pleasure yacht. Calrissian prefers beauty to brute strength, and has all the weapons concealed when not in use. This has fooled smugglers and pirates several times in the past. But she is still not all that well-armed, with only one retractable laser cannon. A pair of shield-generators protect the craft, but are not ideally suited for heavy bouts of combat. Lando does intend to upgrade all this, including the hull, to make the ship more combat-ready.

The Luck’s main defence is a sophisticated sensor system. This is made up of two forward sensor arrays located beneath the hull/ These detect, identify, and scan incoming vessels, and do so from an amazingly long distance. This gives Lando plenty of time to decide what his next move should be. Within the time, he can easily plot a course and jump into hyperspace using the two hyperdrive engines, each located in a pair of engine pods that extend from the fifty metre long hull. The sublight engines are also located in these pods.

When Nomad City was destroyed by Thrawn, the Lady Luck was retired for a while, so that Lando could return to active service in the New Republic. When Han disappeared on Kessel, Calrissian pulled the ship out, and set off on a successful rescue mission. To this day, the Lady Luck has lived up to her name, and Lando fervently hope that she will do so for a long time to come.
