I'm glad for the changes, the increased spawn rate possibley being quite effective in increasing the number of scans.

I'm still just hoping that someday I will be attacked when I fail a scan even though I'm neutral... I am still breaking the law!

It sucks that you have to pick a side to RP. I want the effect of being a criminal that has consequences... not just lose Imperial faction.

Maybe we can push for this in 12.2 and little by little implement a real contraband system!

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

I still don't think this means a damn thing - excpet for making light Jedi Knight trials a billion times easier.

They tried to do the obscene crackdown power once and it failed miserably.

Why? because its no fun at all. Its like a go directly to jail card in monopoly. There is no playing through the scan, there is no strategy. It is simply hope the coin flips your way so you don't make the gruop you're meeting at the starport have to wait for you to clone and rebuff.

This isn't any change in rules or law. The same BS rules apply to imps, to rebels without any contraband, etc. The same "you've failed to avoid the scan" messages that smugglers get even when they're seen as "clean", but fail the underworld roll.

Change the presense in imperial cities via numbers as well as appearance. Use mass amounts of mid level mobs, not the ones that are supposed to be rare enough to warrant being parts of knight trials. Add checkpoints. Increase scans *at* shuttleports. Create raids of rebel strongholds like anchorhead. Dropping 2 NPCs that have more firepower and resists then a large turret so the thread grows until a server reset erases everythign is just dumb and shouldn't in any way be commended or applauded.

I cannot disagre with this post more. This is NOT overkill. The new crackdown teams spawn ONE tough NPC. These stormies will hit for around 1k max through 80% composite. On Test Center, I was fully buffed and armored and was able to kill the entire Crackdown team minus the tough ST in about 15 seconds. I could just barely stand toe to toe with the 100k HAM stormie with me using Stim B's. In the end, my lack of mind is what killed me. This would NOT have been the case if I had brandy, canape, and muon gold. He would have fallen to my rifle.

Furthermore, this 100k HAM stormies NEVER administered a deathblow when I had him incap me twice. They do not have the intent to kill you. What this means is that you can get up and run the hell away, as far as my personal testing goes. This gives players with the incentive to run the chance to do so, but if they stick around and try to fight the law, they will have to be good at their job... very good.

This is a far cry from "obscene" firepower.

The Crackdown is just right I think. Sure the administered punishments could be better. Sure the scan locations could be better. But one thing, undeniably is true, they are now about where they should be in terms of firepower and survivability from a game balance standpoint.

As far as your remark about making the Knight Trials easier, are you absolutely sure that these 100k HAM stormies qualify as "NOVA" troops? I bet it is the 200k HAM monsters, and guess what? They don't spawn anymore with crackdown teams.

This change WAS needed, and I, for one, am glad for it.

If they changed the crackdown a 2nd time over the weekend when i was not playing then i may have to correct my statement above, but indeed, after the first patch that "lessened" the crackdown I ran into multiple scan teams and was db'd by scan teams with both 1 nova trooper (100k ham black with yellow stripes) and 1 nova commander (180k ham, black, yellow stripe & yellow shoulderpad, targets for knight trials) among the other "normal" stormies.

Perhaps the Crackdown teams spawn in more than one kind of configuration. The three scan teams I found on TC over the weekend (after they lessened the strength) were:

  1. One 14k HAM ST with 11-12 normal ST's

  2. One 100k HAM ST with 11-12 normal ST's

  3. One 100k HAM ST with 11-12 normal ST's

Perhaps there were other configurations of teams. If these do qualify as NOVA's for the Jedi Trials, then yes, it sucks.

QFE again; it's without a doubt the most important thing to be said about this.

I fully agree the current crackdown is far from dynamic or going to go very far in the way of making us feel or act like smugglers, but at least it's no longer a punchline. The specifics Ternque's given in this thread make it sound like a pretty good band-aid until something more in-depth and complex can be given us.

Tonight on the Kauri Server I ran into a scanning team on Yavin4. I'm glad it was from a good distance. The Dark Trooper with the 200K armor was quite impressive. In all I counted 11 troopers total. 9 were normal one was slightly higher with a 42k Health. Good work and a great start to this.

I just ran into a squad outside Bestine with the 200K HAM, heavy armor, 30-75% resists trooper in it. The other 8-10 appeared to be standard Stormies.
