I don't know how it is on other servers, but on Kettemoor, a lot of vendors, and even the bazaar has crates of all the goods you need to grind slicing for Smuggler. People are selling the crates of knives, WUKs, AUKs, CDEF pistols and survival knives, molecular clamps, and backpacks of locked containers. Many people not only sell the items, they're specifically naming them "Smuggler's grind" and so on.

While I sympathize with the "don't grind" mentality, and the fact that you truly experience the ins and outs of a profession by doing it, not just grinding it, there's very little opportunity for Smugglers to get their spice and slice trees without grinding.

Spice is difficult to sell since the chef revamp, and mostly sells in crates anyway. Not to mention, that the spices that have much market at all (Muon, Pixie) are in Spices IV, you've prettymuch got no choice but to grind at least up until that point. And it's a crafting grind anyway. (Admittely, one of the easiest grinds in the game, spice is a 30-minute grind endeavor to get all 4 trees)

Slicing, well, you can beg and borrow and spam at starports to slice people's locked containers, and that could get you through Slicing the good, old-fashioned, non-grinding way. However, there's not really a slicing market until you hit Master, because of the % range on slices. Very, very few people want non-master slices, and... I don't blame them. If I'm gonna have someone hack my gun, I'm gonna do it myself to make sure it's done right, or I'm gonna take it to someone who's damned good at what they do. So, you can spend the next few months begging for containers like some kinda panhandling tupperware junkie, or you can suck it up and grind.

In the end, there's still ways to have fun with the grind, if you try. I spent my share of time sweet talkin' mission terminals, and emoting pulling the back panel off every time I went up to one to slice&dice it.
