I found that Smuggler is one of the few professions that can't be grinded out, rather like BH.

Or at least, it can be, as all you need is how ever million pistol xp, a stack of cdef crates and a decent crafting macro, but if you do that, by the time you reach master, you will have the abilities, sure, but you will not have the subtleties...you won't have the knowledge, you won't have the contacts, you won't have the heart and mind of a smuggler, and that, believe it or not is as important as the skill boxes and the xp.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

I was lucky in that I had Master Pistoleer already, so had a fair bit of pistol XP racked up and found it easier to get it to make up the numbers. I guess quenkers while buffed and in armour is still the fastest way for generating XP.

For spices, just sit down and grind shadowpaw on practice mode

Slicing is the most time consuming tree to get through given the lack of XP increase as you go up the tree, not to mention people's reluctance to go to anyone but a master Smuggler. If you have the cash or a generous weaponsmith friend, you can always grind slicing crates of cdefs, but this is extremely tedious and you may find that you'd prefer to take your time and just slice the odd terminal, container and weapon here and there. Regardless, ensure you have a supply of molecular clamps, because it will half the time it takes you to get the XP needed.

OK, now for a serious response. I killed meatlumps and ragtags a lot when I first started Smuggler.

You kill 2 birds with one stone, you get pistol XP and sometimes loot locked containers which you need to get to Slicing 1.

As for the rest, you really won't know what you got unless you're using it. Make friends with a Master, and they can help you not only with info, but with tools to make the slicing grind less painful.

I never understood the CDEF pistol part in the whole slicing grind. Get novice artisan, get a factory and some 50k of metal and make a scheamtic for SURVIVAL KNIFE. It's a lot cheaper.

Honestly, all I can say is this:

Grinding out Smuggler won't make you truly appreciate the profession's strengths and weaknesses. Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't grind any part of it, just take the time to really understand the ins and outs of it before you hit master. Read the stickies. Buy some brandy. Don't master Smuggler if you're only doing it to supplement your WS...that would make me sad.

Other than that, good luck!

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.

How to grind it can be done in a day and a half considering where you start. I see you have a total crafter title for you it will take a tad longer then most.

1. Get a buff.

2. Go to mos eisley attack the npcs behind the starport less lag, and they spawn just a bit better then the ones by the cantina.

3. You will have to get pistols four and unarmed. This is how you do it. Just start killing over and over again. Remember to loot them everytime they die. Save the containers and any weapons you loot this will make sense later. I see you have merchant stowing these on a vendor can save time just plop them into a bag and drop them off.

4. After you got pistols four and unarmed with luck you should have 20 locked containers. If you do not you will need to buy some off the bizarre use galaxy search, or spam looking for locked containers in mos eisley.

5. Find a master smuggler and ask for a crate of molecular clamps and if he has none. Then ask for a schematic you can use to make some with your resources. Do not worry they are generic resources.

6. You need to grab up the ingredients for shadow pay enough said. Now your ready for the next leg.

Mastering smuggler.

1. Smuggler is not a great combat profession, and you will not have ample skills. So my advice is to have a strong combat help you with doing this. Its not impossible, but you need to be experienced with this dungeon to survive at such a low combat level. Go to the blueleaf temple on yavin. Hopefully your combat pal is giveing you a hand. He or she should clear off the entrance to the dungeon and help you take the top inside level. Now your in grind mode. You can stand up on the top level and pick all the ones at the bottom off. They are worth 3500 points each. Once you clear out the bottom you now move onto step two.

2. You will get to loot the chests on the bottom 3 times between respawns once every fifteen minutes. On average you will find 4 weapons to slice a spawn. After each clearing of the dungeon you will split your time between sliceing looted weapons, and makeing spice.

3. Before each spawn begins you want to be in the middle of the downward slopeing ramp. From this vantage point you can stomp the ones up by the doors, and once you do that you will take the ones out on the far wall and on the bottom floor again. Do not worry its pretty safe to do this they cannot hit you. Remember the spawn is on a 45 minute timer. This is important.

4. Now you should be wracking up some pretty decent points atleast 50k a spawn. Once you cap. On xp wait till after you waste a spawn. Then burst run out of the dungeon you may get locked in combat just keep running eventually you will outdistance them or have to FD and run again. Once your out of combat pull a speeder and go to an outpost on planet. Travel to your favorite smuggler npc trainer. Get a buff in you choose, and be back at that dungeon in under 45 minutes. Then repeat the process. Be mindful to work the dirty fighting tree first then underworld. That way you can stay there for longer stretches. When you get back to the dungeon burstrun through the front door if one of the bugs follows you do not panic. Keep running circles up top. Eventually he will stop and spit on you and your safe.

You should make atleast 50k per spawn. You got loot weapons access, and it that dosent take you through sliceing then you have some left over from your thug killing. You simply sit on the ramp and wrack up a ton of points crafting sliceing and killing. I did it this way with the xp payout. You can get around 800k in a 12 hour day. Infact you can log in the middle of the ramp. So you may need help with the grind once. The better part is that you can simply walk away from the pc at stretches comeback take 10 minutes to clear out the dungeon and go do something else.

Basically there is no way to grind any profession that dosent come across as being kind of cheap. Stuff like camping dungeons being chronically buffed and wearing 90 percent armor are just the norm right now, and that being the case you will have a heck of a time finding people to group with and to hunt with and even then. Unless your packing a krayt pistol. Your never going to get alot of points compared to other fighters.

Be perpared to flame the lazy smuggler. I put up a simple combat macro and killed thugs afk, while at school. Or I'd do my slicing while the macro chugged along. The only thing is you couldn't pull out tools while the thing was actually fighting. Whipped through spices with a nine-tool crafting macro. I hate myself.
