The "This is just more loot-based economy" stuff...
The Devs solution has always been to allow a profession to do something, and incorporate loot into it.
Weaponsmiths, they can use loot to make better weapons, but they still make better weapons than what can be looted (wasn't that way for a while, and there's the ROTW stuff, but I still use crafted guns with looted components.)
YOU are still using these looted pieces to slice the gun. You're not being replaced. The loot is interacting with the player-economy, not replacing it.
Then again.. it's been awhile since we made much money from slicing anyway. ![]()

I've never heard of a Weaponsmith that had to go into the bowels of DWB for Krayt tissues.
In any case, I've got a nice set of krayt weapons, and I've *never* had to pay anything significant for them. I brought the tissues to a Weaponsmith, and he made the gun for the cost of his other mats and maybea small tip for 30 seconds of his time. So almost nothing. He didn't profit A DAMN BIT from the transaction.
If anything, I'm willing to bet that this would *decrease* the amount of revenue from slicing. People won't bring us their best weapons, since they're holding out for superslices (ie, waiting to get their own mats so we can do it for free). The rest of their slices will be for garbage grinder weps that no one particularly cares about (or pays much for) anyway.

Was the WS a friend/guildmate? Because most of the WS's I know don't make something at cost for total strangers just because they supplied their own tissues. They're still going to make a profit.
Charge a base rate for slices plus the cost of the component, maybe a little extra for the value of the component. And there's your profit, even if they bring their own stuff.
I don't know about you, but I'd never slice for free... So they brought their own component. Without me slicing, that component means squat.

But slicing level 1 are still slicable with out components, level 2 includes relatively easy loot drops and level 3 & 4 will be rare.
What this means for the smugglers and our prices:
- You got a small level weapon you want a few levels sliced... sure expect anywhere from 10-50k a level for the first two levels.
- I spend my game time and stock up on level 2 enhancers... expect range to double to quadruple. I can easily see 50k-150k an item if I supply.
---- If you supply the part, I see prices staying relative to level 1-2 slices.
- I spend my game time and get elite components... no way am I selling them to the public. Sorry. I carry enough weapons that they will go in each and every piece of gear I get. But- If you supply me with the right price... +1m would be light.
---- If you supply the part, expect to pay anywhere frmo 50-250k.

Not a bit. I'd known of him, and buttered him up a bit (silver smuggler-tongue and all that), but we weren't friends or guildies. When it came down to it, it was 30 seconds of his time and almost no cost. So he didn't have any leverage to work with. He knew that I could take the mats to half a dozen other Weaponsmiths and get essentially the same results. This way he'd get the good word-of-mouth so that I'd pay him for his other services later (stock weapons).
Trouble is.. we won't have a real competitive "other" service, unless our t2 slices are about as good as the t3s and t4s, which would invalidate the entire process.
