I love it when ill-informed twi'leks start talking in lekku and think nobody around them but other twi'leks can understand them.

I send them a tell and say something like "now that wasn't very nice" or "aww, I didn't know you thought of me that way!".

I can just envision the person behind the monitor who has no earthly clue about the Smuggler Language Comprehension - or those that forgot, go completely red.

I think pretty much the entire non-smuggler population is "ill-informed" on this issue.

The only way you'd know is if you actually had the skill and noticed you were understanding Lekku. I bet a HUGE number of smuggler with the skill STILL don't know they can understand Lekku. You don't see used all that often and you might not notice the language used in the conversation. I know I don't pay much attention to which language I'm 'translating'.

Though I've known about it for quite a while it's because I think Lekku are probably the most sensual body part in the known universe, so I notice lekku.

Reminds me of a true story.

When I was still a poor stoodent I worked in a factory during the summer, and one of the delivery drivers was a bloke called Ray. Ray had worked as a police officer in Hong Kong in the early 80s and spoke several Chinese languages fluently. These skills have their occasional uses in North West England, but not many....

So one day Ray was in the local chippy (that's fish and chip shop to you Merkins ) and was waiting for his order. A cry in Mandarin or Cantonese (I forget exactly) came out of the kitchen from a disembodied voice.

Disembodied voice: Who's this (Ray's intended meal) for?
Girl at counter (in same language): It's for this fat bloke at the counter!
Ray (in same language): Do you mind not calling me fat?

Girl at counter looks at him in horror, vanishes into backroom of shop. Ray then gets served his dinner by someone else and leaves, telling the rest of us in work the story with great relish the next day

Great story. I have a similar one: my mother was in a bakery making a couple purchases. While she waited for one the women behind the counter began talking to one another in Hungarian. Little did they know that Hungarian is actually my mother's first language. So one woman says to the other, "Look at this shiksa (derogatory term for non-jew) what's she doing in here?" My mother took it in stride, paid for her purchases, and just as she was about to leave threw back "You shouldn't talk about people." in Hungarian. I can only imagine the looks on those poor womens' faces.

Understanding Lekku is great!! A Twi'lek friend of mine and me have a nice roleplaying situation going on.

He was once a notorious shipthief but was eventually caught by the Empire. In an act of cruelty they savagely cut his vocal cords out so he can only speak lekku. My smuggler serves as his translator. He has fun insultingpeople out loud and I diplomatically clean it up for him. He even keeps up the roleplaying by pulling out a protocol droid when i am not around.
