You are not going to 'be a hero' with 5000 other people on the same server as you also trying to 'be a hero'. The only way you're going to get that is by playing the Knights of the Old Republic game you just mentioned.
You can be 'well known' in an MMORPG, but that is more of a social thing.
You are not going to find the gameplay you want in any MMORPG.

Unless you play City of Heroes!

Yeah, but then you're just one out of thousands of "Heroes", just another "Man (or woman) in Tights" running (or flying, jumping, teleporting, or whatever) around bashing bad guys all day. Nothing by combat, combat, combat. No thanks.

Jedi are here and they are going to stay, might as well just deal with it or move on. Personally I don't give a womprats @ss about them other than they are taking the devs time away from more important things. I believe that they fixed the jedi first so they would be all set for the combat revamp. It is a fact being able to be a jedi is a selling point for the game. Being a lets say Image Designer isnt. Not that we dont need the ID's but you probably wont hear anyone saying " Man I have to get that game so I can make peoples hair purple!" Please dont take this as an ID bashing it was only an example.

These are ideas that would make being a Jedi during this time period be the risk it is supposed to be. I believe, however, that our Star Wars galaxy has evolved beyond "cannon", as any game involving so many people would.

That may be so, but Verant are liscenced for the time period between ANH and ESB and that time period only; they should be striving to make us feel like we are in that period and not some post Empire/RotJ time period, which, let's face it, it might aswell be. The only time you have any trouble with the Empire is if you slap or stick your tongue out at one of the NPCs and there are at least 10000% more Jedi than there should be on each server.

Jedi are a real complicated issue here. Many people play the game to become Jedi and many others who play it because they enjoy it still want to become Jedi. At the same time Jedi has been a detriment to the game. Holocrons almost destroyed the game and now the prevelance of Jedi everywhere in the game has begun to upset the balance among players that is already shot to hell. The dev focus on Jedi is due to marketing issues, they have to make it work because thats what people want.

There is no easy solution to this issue. Jedi can't be removed nor can they the only focus. Our only hope is that once this next publish is done they Devs will avoid Jedi entirely and fix everything else and make other professions just as exciting as Jedi appear to be to people.

Well if they came to this game with the sole intent of being a Jedi, then they are retarded, and apparantly cant read. Every piece of documentation about this game, since long before any work was done, or a single line coded, stated that Jedi would be near impossible to get, and would basically have to hide out and live the life of a hermit, hiding their powers, or face permanent death. What, in all of that, gives them the idea that they're supposed to be running around Coronet duelling each other? This one issue makes me want to give up this game more than any other. Either bite the bullet, and change the GWC to the Clone Wars, or get rid of Jedi running around in hoards. Those are the only two choices.

I ran the holo-grind for about a month before i got tired of it and dropped it. I went through 2 holos and went silent, mastered commando, then gave. Ive been a master smuggler since december 4th and I know that Im going to enjoy playing a smuggler more than I ever could as a Jedi. I got to play as a Jedi on TC2 a few weeks back and I quite frankly wasnt that impressed. This just brings up a great point that my best friend in-game made a while back: This game is run by a group of people who are not true SW fans, they just do what will sell more copies of the game. Pub 9 has done nothing but porve that point over and over again. Unless this game is set in a parallel universe, this is supposed to be the middle of the GCW, which means that Jedi are few and far between, and more importantly hidden. Jedi at this time did NOT have enclaves, they did NOT walk around with their lightsabers in the open, and there were NOT very many of them.

Lets just say that they keep everything in pub 9 the way it is and lets change a few other things:

Give Jedi a reason to fear for their lives:

-Jedi TEFs, make it so if a Jedi has their lightsaber equiped they have a TEF for everyone-

-BHs have marks that they hunt, make marks that hunt Jedi, NPCs that pop up every once and a while that hunt the Jedi-

-Cortosis Weave armor, even the playing field for Non-Jedi who hunt Jedi but make it rare of course-

-NPCs, have the Devs play as either Boba Fett or Darth Vader, or other powerful NPCs, and hunt down Jedi, even make Live Events out of them, weekly Jedi hunts-

Well, Im just going to cut it short here because I know that Jedi who read this are going to call me a jedi hater, and someone is going to disagree with me, and the Devs will never take into account what Ive said here so if you want to flame this post go ahead, I don't care. This is a free forum and im just posting my opinions.

I have no Idea what you are talking about. This game is perfect the way it is.

I love Sarcasim. LOL

I just hit a bunch of buttons and hope everything works out.

Jedi have been a detriment to this game in its entirety, in my opinion. Heck, the whole skill system has.

I'll grant you that I've only been playing for maybe 1.5 months, but from my observations, the game does not become enjoyable until you've become a Master in your chosen profession(s).

The method of the hologrind opened a Pandora's box, in most regards. I had a friend who trying to grind his way through to it, and he used AC Tool (I shall not divulge his name, needless to say). Unless you're willing to cheat, you really cannot get to a point where the game is enjoyable in any reasonable amount of time. And it allowed those willing to let AC tool grind their experience for them to let them rush through the crafting professions. AC Tool can get you through all the crafting professions. You just need to let it run while you're at work and then come home and deal with the professions that require more hands-on, like CH and the combat (though squatting on spawn points is equally effective, as well as macro'ing attack commands for your creatures).

So now comes along this revamp of the Jedi and all these hologrinders are now un-nerfed, while every other profession remains unbalanced or nerfed to high hell. Suddenly you have all these Jedi who are 'fixed' running around and dueling and such. I can't go one night now without hearing the snap-hiss of a lightsaber.

And the fact that Force sensitives can still pursue careers other than Jedi also kind of takes a shot to everyone else. I recall someone mentioning a +4 luck bonus or some **edit**e that allows them better slices. Whether that particular instance is true or not, Jedi overall neuter every other profession by allowing the Force sensitives to have advantages.

The skill system is whacked because people won't even approach you if you're not a Master. You've got to pair down your pricing and most of the time take a hit, just to pull in the business that gets you experience. Forget about covering costs. I try and do some slicing. More than half the people who /tell me want to know if I'm a Master and don't respond when I tell them I'm not. The only economics that do not have problems are the resource gatherers, who sell everything at 3 cpu. In fact, that's how I make most of my money. Not through smuggling, but through resource hocking so others can start their own profession grinding.

And the best business I've got as a starting WS is selling DL18s to starting new players, just so they'll rake in the experience for using your crafted items.

The system is a grind, right now. I do not feel like I'm a cog in the Galactic economy. Instead I feel like not only am I paying real money to play this game, but I'm paying fake money just to enjoy it.

I'd put it into this context. When we eventually -do- get our revamp and suddenly we have marketable skills that can be enhanced by Force sensitivity... how are you going to feel when you get this:

John Doe tells you, "r u a fs master smuggler?"

Oh, and as far as IDs go, I really want to know what the obsession is with having one's hair being a primary color.

You know that is very true. Back in the beginning *eyes glaze over* it was kinda cool because we were limited to whatever the crafters could make. I remember when Chitin(sp?) was the latest and greatest, when people would ooo and ahh over whatever they saw for the first time. Even a new shirt or jacket was a big thing. Now if you want to compete ,especially crafters you HAVE to be a master,so that means grinding. I almost wish there would be a system rollback tht would take everyone back to square one. Almost.

Speaking of Jedi... someone had the "audacity" to suggest bringing back permanent death on the Jedi boards and was summarily hazed by all the Jedi for being a Jedi hater.
