Thread: Smuggler Brothers/Sisters on Starsider

Alrgiht, here's my problem:

I've been playing SWG since launch and I always knew I wanted to be a Smuggler. I even took Artisan as my starting prof because the early guides said that Smuggler had a Merchant xp requirement way back when. So now, after more than a few breaks from the game, I've been a Master Smuggler on Kuari for several months. I've gotten my SA Pilot up to 4/4/4/4 and I'm just 3 missions short of Master and my YT-1300. The whole Smuggler path is just about finished. The only problem: I'm on Kauri.

I don't want to badmouth the server that brought me some good times and some good friends, but lately there's been more drama over there than a junior high school dance and I'm getting a little fed up. Plus, I'd like to RP more than I get the chance to over there.

I've been hanging around the Smuggler forum for awhile and I've noticed that there's a heck of a lot of us Smugs posting from Starsider and I've gotten the vibe that you all are having a lot of fun over there. Frankly, I'm a little jealous. So I've been putting some serious thought into making Starsider my primary server. Thing is though, since my Smuggler on Kauri is glowy, I'd have to start from scratch on Starsider. I have some time available to play, but seriously grinding my way back through the profession isn't a real option. It'd take some time, especially with the changes in our xp requirments.

This is where I'd like to getthe Starsider's input. What awaits me over there? Are you all having as much fun as it looks like? Will there be a loving community waiting to embrace a wayward smuggler wandering in from another galaxy? Anyone willing to let me crew on their YT for petty cash and a place to sleep while I'm getting back on me feet? Do I really want to go back to blasting kreetles and chubas? Do I risk being mistaken for a Post-CU NooB looking for the FOTM?

On Kauri, I'm kind of a big fish in a small pond. There isn't a lot of us MS running around. But what's the use of being a big fish in a polluted pond?

So I'm on the fence. Leaving would mean giving up a lot, but if the opportunity for fun and adventure awaits on Starsider, I might be willing to throw it all to the wind and raise ship. Any input would mean a lot to me. We all know that us Smugglers are some of the best people in this game, regardless of server.

Thanks a lot.

I was in the same boat. I was on bloodfin and the server just didnt do it for me after 2 years and a few breaks. I came back to game about a month or so ago and joined starsider because of some space activity that wasnt on bloodfin. Wow what a difference, alot of people helped me get started and set up and moving. I busted my butt and mastered swords and pistoleer 1 hour before the servers shut down for the CU. Now I am all set up and loving the server. About to go on my first space event.

Send me a tell if you need anything like some cash, house, weapons or even to just grind some exp. Im exping lok atm its pretty good and easy enough to get groups. I just went through what you are going through so send me a shout... IGN 'Jet

Heh, I'm actually a transplant myself. Was a BH (Mscout/Mmarks) on Ecplise, switched somewhere around a year ago (The day they dropped the Mscout prereq), went Smuggler, it's been awesome. Love the people here, never looked back.

There IS some drama, but you basically won't know about it if you don't read the forum board

Rather late to this party, but Starsider's both the unofficial RP server and the unofficial unofficial JTL server (in that it just seems to have a lot of pilots and a lot of space PVP), so we've got a couple things going for us.

And wow, there do seem to be a lot of us forum smugglers around, doesn't there?

In any event, good to have you with us.

That's good advice right there.

The Starsider server board is so full of dramaqueens it glows pink from three rooms away. Give Cael a call next time your in Eisley. I always have work for aspiring RP smugglers (there is no other kind until we can smuggle). It's not easy but it pays and when it's done, you owe nothing to anyone.

Also, feel free to check out the link my sig. Sorry to spamvertize but i wrote it, i have a right to be proud of that, right?

Welcome to Starsider. Please keep all hands and arms inside the cockpit at all times, otherwise the dramaqueens from the server board will make a huge stink about it that doesn't matter in the least bit (but it helps them feel special, so I don't belittle then to much about it ) If you ever need some help, or just someone to talk too, feel free to send Raquin a tell.

By the way, long as all you 121st guys are around, one of you mind telling Naithan I won't be at the Saturday space PVP? My gaming computer's busted and I don't expect to have it working again for a couple more days. Thanks guys.

Wow. I knew the Smuggler Community was great, but you guys have really risen to the occaison to make me feel welcome. I appreciate it. A lot.

I just logged off of Starsider again. I'm currently camped outside of Eisley with about 355 wounds from a seriously botched re-entry into Yavin's upper atmosphere following a run in with Black Sun (I always get cocky and think I can take just ONE more wave before I end those duty missions). I'll probably be back on again either later tonight or tomorrow.

The sig is Michaelus "Mic" Zweig. Mic'sa retired Imperial ground pounder whose living off a small military pension and trying to make ends meet by crewing tramp freighters, bouncing indive cantinas, hunting for hide and meat, etc. He's willing to do what it takes to make his way in the galaxy, but he's got his own moral code that can limit him from time to time. Should be fun to RP...

I appreciate the offers for creds and housing and such, but I'm really more interested in meeting up with other people, getting to know what's going on around the galaxy, who the various PAs are, and of course, grouping up to gain some of that wonderful Pistols/Combat xp. I'll probably be trying to grind my way through Privateer again as quick as I can. It just seems wrong to look at that Skill window and see all those empty boxes and to not have Smuggler there at all.

Thanks again for the support and for making the move that much easier. It was hard to make the decision to go back to basics and work my way back up through the profession. I only wish that I had made the decision two weeks earlier to take advantage of x2 Xp week. But, at least this way I'll be able to have a better insight to the Smuggler prof after having mastered it Pre-CU and now seeing what it's like Post-CU.

Well, double xp week was really "Everybody grind real fast!" week, so you'll likely find more RP now that it's over.

As long as we're talking Starsiders Smugglers and RPers around here and so forth...

I'm another refugee, sort of. Pair of girls I've been playing with for... almost two years now.. well, we decided to make SWG our game again, and Starsider was the server of choice. Now, I've been a Smuggler for a long time, on Kettemoor, so I understand the necessity of networking, both as a Smuggler and an RPer. We happen to be looking for a guild, one that RPs and doesn't as it were "suck", but due to various reasons, we're not really loooking for an Underworld-oriented guild, and we're looking towards Rebel PAs. That's not really the point though. The point is...

I'm looking to get to know many of you I know here on the boards on an in-game basis on Starsider. I need my Smuggler and RPer contacts. So, please, if you are so inclined, send Kaytlin a tell in-game, assuming I don't manage to get to you first. :>
