I wouldn't mind so much if, when you are in a city and spotted by the 'law' with a weapon in-hand, they asked you to remove your weapon. If you failed to comply, they would start shootin. If you were in an area of the city without police around, you could take out your weapon and start layin' the smackdown.
Of course, most of the non-RP community would probably hate that.
But that would be a great situation to have, and hold-out blasters would make a little more sense.
Sort of like.... Everquest? Where if you decided to attack someone within the confines of a city you'd very quickly taste the wrath of the guards?
The problem with patrolled areas, and I believe the Devs' excuse for not having it, is the possibility of people using the guards as their own personal gank squad.
Annny way, I would really like a smuggler pistol, that required constant tweaking and maintenance (well not constant, but well, something) to keep it fast and accurate. I personally feel that our pistol should be fast, and reasonably accurate (A certain Smuggler shooting first and killing a BH anyone?) Damage shouldn't be nearly as high as the pistoleer and Bh pistols though. Holsters would be key because it would be a definite surprise attack weapon. (again with the shooting first). But that's just my opinion. Long as we get thoroughly smuggler-loved... I'll be happy.

Why is it in every cop movie the cop spots a holster lickity split then if its supposed to be really concealed. One would think holsters would actually get you busted. Whether it be a low down or an armpit holster. I am sure its going to give you a odd walk to say the least. Personally I stick to the tried and the true. The fruit of the loom holster. That and the coat pocket holster. Maybe smugglers should be getting loose fit pants and shirts for concealment.
Um yeah I do not want to think where this holdout pistol is hidden that it dosent get confiscated. Is it the shot that kills you or the dingleberries that come along for the ride.

love your idea but that would require the devs to pay attention to us. As as we all saw the loot revamp was more important

I think that would be something nice for the smuggler. A one shot mini-pistol that can be hidden and does a ton of damage for one shot. It would be used on a timer so that people couldn't macro them as their normal fighting weapon. What do you all think?

You would think, in a galaxy run by the Empire, that there would be SOME gun control...especially boarding starships and shuttles.
The idea we all run around with weapons in-hand jumping on public transportation or entering public buildings is...baffling to me to say the least.
At the VERY least weapons whould be holstered in cities and 'checked' or 'permited'...or 'smuggled'...when using starports or shuttleports.
That said I fail to see exactly HOW you'd practically use a 'hold-out' blaster given the current game mechanics.

from what i hear around these forums, most smugglers like something that goes off with a BIG BOOM!
smugglers getting the grenade-tree from commando solely for the grenades, smugglers getting boom-bots...
makes sense tho... there isn't a better way out of a dangerous situation that with a thermal detonator inone hand, and the lady of the boss in the other(as long as she's cute... we DO have a reputation to uphold...)
last night i was using a heavy particle beam(sliced it for 27% dmg. dmg post-slicewas 2500-4075) and fired it at a stormie. you would expect it to do more than merely bounce off the armour, leaving a small scorched stain...(it did a whole 9 damage!!!)-Because you weren't certified for it, probably.
being the explosion-lover that i am, i'd like some certifications for grenades... perhaps in the dirty fighting tree?
How about a mid rangegrenade in terms of damage, but is capable ofputting a DOT on the target. The Molotov Cocktail, certified at Dirty Fighting 4 to make it more of an investment, not just something for dabblers. Obviously, it'd have the chance of a Fire DOT the same as the Flame Thrower does, but shouldn't deal as much damage per turn or on the initial attack. However, being a grenade, it has a blast radius, meaning it could possiblyset several targets on fire, like the flame thrower.
