Thread: Something I have noticed
Heck, I even want to ace Smuggler's Alliance and then Crimson Phoenix (I alreadyaced Vortex) to help my Smuggler image.
I have learned, however, that the way we feel about Smuggler is not unique to just the Smuggler profession, the Rangers have it too. It's bizarre, actually, being a part of both communities. They're two, parallel universes of each other. I've sat here smirking at nearly identical conversations on both boards about the usual "Should I master _____?" threads.
I was trying to explain why I want to be a Smuggler, especially a Master Smuggler at that to a long-time Master Ranger. Everything I was saying was kinda falling on deaf ears, until I said "Smuggler to me is what Ranger is to you." And then it made perfect sense. A true Smuggler just "gets it". It's just what they ARE. To anyone who has to have Smuggler justified to them because of the skills it gives you, or if it's worth the skillpoints, it's just not there.
It's a state of being, that you just have to TRY. Sometimes being a true Smuggler sneaks up on you, but it never, never goes away after that. I couldn't stay away from being a Smuggler, and I LOATHE repeating stuff after I've already done it.

On my server Sunrunner, I have noticed a thing that goes on with long time master smugglers that drop the profession. Around 2-3 months after totally dropping it they usually do one of 2 things. They pick it back up, or they quit the game. Even those that quit for longer than 2-3 months often include 'former master smuggler' in either their bio or forum sig. I just don't see this happening among other professions (at least in the group of people I know). What makes us love this broken profession so much that it becomes our CENTRAL identity. I can't explain what it is for me. I'm a smuggler, it's all I know. I can't fathom my character being centerd around another profession.
You know........ I'm just not sure! I picked up Smuggler after the 2003/2004 Christmas presents of the Holocrons. Before that time, I was on my way to becomming a Mater Bounty Hunter. I did my first Holocron and it was Brawler. My second one was Master Smuggler, My thrid Holocron was Master Medic. I quit the hologrind right after medic. Today, I'm still a Smuggler. Lets face it. We haven't had alot of breaks in the last couple of years. So I'm not sure what made me stay a Smuggler, but I have (I had to drop Master... im now 4-3-1-0 ). I saw no way to rationalize ALL the skill points it was taking up, without any benefit.). So I totally agree. I have no idea what makes us Smugglers so Damned Smug, or Loyal to our profession.
/shrug......

I think its a question of content mostly. Hope dosent make a game fun. If you wait month after month after month. For a profession to become fun you got some problems. Thats a retarded exercise. You might aswell stick your finger into an electrical socket. Alot of people get so caught up in the roleplay that they miss the fact that the profession they are playing is not fun. If your into sliceing stuff and playing dead your really into smuggler.
If your into killing lots of cool things smuggler is not for you.
If your into pvp smuggler is not for you.
If your into crafting smuggler is not for you.
I think its that alot of people just figure out hey this is dumb and pointless. Playing a profession for what it could be. Rather then faceing what it is now. Infact many smugglers wear the smuggler since day 1 patch way too proudly. Its not a badge of honor, or committment. Its a badge of look at me I refuse to come to terms with reality.
I could see it if smuggler had some truely innovateive combat, or crafting system. It dosent though. Its the profession of how to slice weapons and armor. So I do not feal bad for when someone leaves smuggler. I clap for them they are just slightly less demented then the fanboys, and know they want to go have fun. Rather then wait around for smuggler to get the serious work it needs.
/sigh, you just don't get it do you?
