Although I'm still against Jedi losing some of their penalty, the way Veela suggested seems better than just a blanket pull them off the terminal version.

I have to agree with ana-mo-cara that slices should be temporary. If an item gets repaired, then it should lose the slice since repairs are supposed to fix defects.

Slicing terminals on the other hand is not the same thing. Slicing into a terminal is accessing / changing information, where slicing weaps and armor is changing a physical item. The information part is more what a slicer seemed to be in the rest of the Star Wars stuff though.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Personally, I'd rather see sucha system include a grouping/proximity requirement, possibly in addition to the slicing. This would hopefully encourage more interaction and role play. That way you're not just slicing away their troubles, but sticking with them in an attempt to see them through a rough patch, so to speak.

Anyway, that's an attempt to be reminiscent of ANH.

The jedi already misuse smugglers abilities to avoid bounties....I'm talking about feign death. Jedi need to be held accountable for their visibility since it's the fact that they dont care about visibility which is ruining the setting of the game. Giving them another way out would be foolish.

I desperately fear any system that involves grouping with jedi to give them some bonus. In the eyes of the community smuggler would not be a support class. It would be a jedi support class. Makieng a smuggler a jedi pet. Players would literally just set their smuggler on follow and afk. 1. smuggler is increadibly weak so you will not be getting in on the fight. 2. Now smugglers get on a BH hate list. 3. The path of smuggler will be going down the wrong path. Soon we would have jedi pushing for smugglers to get less general skills, and more jedi oriented skills. Stuff like shine the lightsabre. No player class should ever degenerate into a pet class.

If a smuggler could slice a bounty terminal to get the credits put into his account and remove the Jedi from the terminal, i think it would be a very smuggler-esque type thing to do, but sadly i fear it would not work out due to abuse of the system (2nd slot etc.) *sigh* if a FS slot could be barred from smuggler..so the trainer says 'Who told you I could teach you in the ways of the underworld? get lost punk' and likewise for anyone who is intiate and above then it MIGHT work, but i dont think the devs CBA with it lol

MISTagent01, you're idea id very good, but not really good enough. Often people don't care if they die. Then the smuggler could slice 50 times a day for different jedi, getting a success 50% of the time. Say they get a 20k payout each time they're successful. They get 500k a day. That will pay for anything destroyed quickly and make lots of billionaires.

Otherwise a good idea.

I had hoped people would not have thought I was this stupid. I would never suggest that Smugglers retain the ability to slice BH terminals more than 2-3 times a week, each for a different Jedi. No more than that though, because of this exact thought you're putting forth. There is no way I would ever condone or endorse a Smuggler's ability to slice the BH terminals like mission terminals. That's just dumb. Also, do you think those Jedi would be very happy with a Smuggler that doesn't care if they fail or not. If I was a Jedi, I would surely care about whether the Smuggler I hired got it right, even though there would never be a 100% success rate.

Trust me, when I said in myabovepost that what I was writing was a loose outline, that's what I meant. I have a very detailed system written out that I go back to and tweak after I hear ideas from everyone else.

Also, I think it's absolutely correct that some people don't care about dying; to that extent, perhaps if the Jedi exp loss was doubled, and the Smuggler bounty was triple the amount a normal Jedi would fetch, perhaps people would be more wary of retianing a Smuggler for services. Something that would be terribly interesting is a chance roll on what the penalty for failure is: one time you screw up could double exp loss for the Jedi and double the bounty that's put on you, another time it might change up and just triple the bounty prices on both Jedi and Smuggler. That way, there are different, unexpected penalties (after all, you are slicing into a terminal, you never know what will short out and mess up.)

Responding to HOTDOG, I think you're right in that perhaps toploading professions might curb that issue, but honestly as of right now there is really only one reason why BHs and Jedi dabble in Smuggler, and that's FD. That's my opinion of it, anyway, I could be wrong though, since I don't care to be a BH or a Jedi.

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.

I have to completely agree with EVERYTHING ana has said so far on this thread. Smuggler would turn into a Jedi support class. Jedi need some kind of weakness, and right now, bounty hunters are their weakness. I wouldn't be so against this idea, though, if the Jedi lost twice as much experience after a smuggler fails a slice, and a bounty hunter death blows the Jedi. But not long after this is implemented, Jedi will find exploits and bounty hunters will cry nerf...and smugglers will get even more entangled in the Jedi vs Bounty Hunter battle than they already are.

My other problem with something like this is them throwing it at us and calling it a revamp. It has potential to be hashed out into a side benefit, but needs not to be a focus like some think it should be.

Veela's got it right, folks.

I AM curious about her thoghts on not being able to mix the big three (Jedi/Smuggler/BH) in your template though I pretty much disagree.

I understand thatby mixing and matching these professions you end up with some VERY un-StarWars like behavior (and even some exploitation) but I would rather see somebasic compromises before disallowing someone from dabbling in what they wanted.

Perhaps top loading the templates of each a little more would be better- Idunno.

Come with that thought Veela.
