Persuadinga slicer (or rather master smuggler) toslice into the Bounty Hunter terminals to wipesomebodies mission from them and thus resetting visibility to zero would be nice, but it should be restricted to be done once in a certain time period(a week, perhaps?)for each Jedi to prevent people from just letting themselves be wiped off the terminals every single time they appear on them.

This would also make slicers more useful and more true to the slicers we know from the expanded Star Wars universe (hackers, essentially).

This idea is from Glzmo not me.....

The idea of me being persuaded by an ancient religious holding somùe kind of telescoping fluo tube is all but acceptable.

Force mind tricks is supposed to apply on simple mnds, not on people with strong willing, otherwise don't you think Obi-Wan would have persuaded Han to smuggle them for free? don't you think Qui-Gon would have persuaded Watto to accept republic credits? or Luke would have persuaded Jabba to give Han back?

Smugglers are not the kind of people you can say "that's not the droids you're looking for". Anything we do is for greed, and money is the only thing that can persuade us into an action (apart from survival).

this could lead to an exploit...

Padawan Jedi/smuggler removing himself from the terminals.

so if they pay the smugglers you first sentence about paying not being jedi like doesn't stand any longer, thus your theory falls down. the persuasion skill wouldn't enter into consideration, it would simply be business.

Accepting the idea of it being business, then i agree it should be a master thing, since it certainly needs slicing skills, but you also could imagine it should need underground contacts too

Personally I never liked the idea. It removes one of the few things that Jedi fear. It also allows them to run around unchecked. They need to be fearful, and they need to in hiding.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Sure Zane, i agree on the concept, but well, if we can get something illegal with high payouts to do, that could be an alternative to the slicewhore.

And it should be failing sometimes, so that we could be hunted too, it could be one of the ways to become hunted. But for sure not the only one.

It comes down to the same problem with slicing as it is right now. It's undervalued and totally misunderstood by most. If there was a good way to control prices, the that would be great. But when I charge 10k fora slice at Master, and a Slicer charges 5k, and we get similar results most of the time, then I don't see it as being an asset, but that's just my opinion. Kind of a greater good for the game thing too.

Not too sure how the investigation tree works, but I would rather see something like Smugglers being able to feed misinformation to Spynet NPCs or slice into travel terminals to cover the tracks of a Jedi. This way they wouldn't lose visibilty or the bounty mission on them, but they would be safer for a little while.

Also if you fail the payout for the BH is 2x and we "if we die" will lose 2x the exp we would have

No offense to anyone in this thread, but I had this idea (some variations) about 9 months ago at Fan Fest. I relayed the idea to GreenMarine, RuneSabreand ThunderHeart, who all liked it very much.

Basically, the thing was to have Masters able to attempt to slice BH terminals to remove Jedi.

1. There would be NO way to have 100% success. Almost like slicing a weapon without clamps or FANs. Either you get it right, or you don't.

2. If the Smuggler succeeds, the Jedi is removed from the terminals, their visibility is reset, and the Smuggler is unable to remove that specific Jedi from the terminals for a week (maybe two, but that's negotiable.) The Smuggler is then granted the payout, thus eliminating the Jedi's need to "pay" for the service, which I agree is most "un-Jedi-like."

3. If the Smuggler fails, the Jedi AND the Smuggler are placed on the BH terminal, both at a premium DOUBLE that of a normal Jedi. If the normal payout is 150K, then upon failure, Jedi and Smuggler are placed on theterminals at 300K each. The Smuggler is not allowed to slice any more terminals until: A) They are killed and removed from BH terminals; or B) A specific timeframe goes by (negotiable, a week perhaps?) that will then remove the Smuggler from a terminal.

The one other thing that I am STRONGLY for in this game:

The three iconic professions (Jedi, BH, Smuggler) be independent of eachother. You can't be both at the same time. You can dabble in anything else you want, but the three most iconic professions should be kept seperate. Flame me if you must, but you can't be a Jedi and retain some BH skills at the same time...isn't that hypocritical? Same goes for Smuggler/Jedi, Smuggler/BH.

I might start another thread about that last idea. Maybe Monday.

V E E L A "her royal hawtness"
I am Jack's Smirking Revenge. I am Jack's Ignored Profession.
Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.

The problem is a less then rp oriented smuggler is not afraid of failure the reason being that the smuggler can easily afford to die if he gets a big payout for it. Personally, and I am sure to get torched for this. Slices should be temporary on weapons and armor. That would atleast increase the role of all smugglers. Keeps smiths from auto sliceing for themselves, and that would mean we would be group loved. Especially if unlike doc buffs slices get a limited effect. Say a slice lasts an hour. That is enough time for a group to use the smuggler skill, but be rid of it in the end.

While I like the idea of sliceing terminals you still have some serious issues.

1. Double the payout is just not a serious penalty for the jedi in and of itself. The DB on this mission. Should come with an even greater sting say twice the xp loss. Just to make jedis weary of useing it unless they absolutely need it.

A better solution would be to have a star rateing system. Like in the grand theft auto game. The higher a jedis visibility the higher the reward and the higher the penalty point wise, and reguardless of jedi rank the points are deducted and boxes lost. Example a particularly stupid jedi decides to swing his or her sabre everywhere. Eventually they get up to five starts the reward is 500k and the xp loss per death at the hands or a bh or not is huge.

Now if that were the case and a smuggler could remove one star at the risk of increaseing a star will more then adequately disuade abuse. A 1 star jedi wants off the terminal he got unlucky and stumbled on some players. He or she should have a chance. The guy with five stars might aswell take the risk anyway,

2. The smuggler has to take some risk and dieing is not it. Maybe the failure should actually apply a state like long term disease to a smuggler. Perhaps a message you failed apparantly you have hit a cold streak. This would reduce the smugglers effectiveness at sliceing smuggling, and dirty fighting. Makeing the rolls worse. For a couple hours. This should make smugglers wary of sliceing if it means they are made less adept. Plus cool RP element seeing as a profession built on luck has alot to with confidence, and some superstition.
