Thread: Smuggler moves what those vague descriptions mean, and what they REALLY do

Nice post.

On test concussion was acting like a "mez" shot where the target was unable to shot back, move, etc, would just stand there. Now it seems to be just root

Is this a bug or is it just a root shot now?

Great post. Question for you....how many of these abilities are AoE?

I don't think any are...

A few of the Pistoleer moves are AoE, but I'm pretty sure none of the Smuggler ones are...

Although the cone is so damn narrow, it's hard to say.

Oh, and for those of you who are also Pistoleer's, here's a link to a similar post on their forum by Praecor Loth. It's what inspired me to do this research:

Did anyone try to just use a concussion shot on a ranged NPC, then switch to another one?

Maybe the rooted one is out of order then.

Now...dare we try and write a macro for a nice opening combination....?

The pauses might bea little tricky. But knowing the timers on states, you could potentially automate your root attacks to always keep the victim stuck...

Now, while I have no macro, I find that with a combo of stopping shot, thenBurst Shot (to stop the health from recharging)DAMAGE DAMAGE DAMAGE, then just before it runs out (stopping shot) an overwhelming shot, thenBurst Shot (to stop them from recharging health)then concussion shot, thenwaituntil its almost over (DONT FIRE HERE), then disarming shot (to give you a few precious seconds!), then overwhelming shot, then there should have been enough time for stopping shot to "reload" then use stopping shot again, then DAMAGE DAMAGE DAMAGE, and do the rest all over again...

This would probably workvery well in a macro, as long as your fighting melee... Believe me, I've killedajedi using this technique... The trick is to give stopping shot enough time to be used again. The concussion shot is perfect for this, as it gives you time even though you are not actualy damaging it. As long as your states stick (helped in a BIG way by overwhelming shot!) you should permanently stick your target until he/she is dead. And I believe they can't heal with concussion on right? If so, then fighting jedi/cm's should be a lot easier. Know if only Low Blow would be working... >: )

wait... burst shot prevents Health from recharging???

gotta be careful with burst shot in PvE, it's an AoE attack, and you don't wanna agro too many things now.

According to the Pistoleer descriptions of their moves, yep:

Burst Shot - Cone AoE stun... stop opponents ability point regeneration. Nice follow up after warning and intimidate... doesn't stick as often as you'd like though.

AlthoughI don't think this prevents actual healing of themselves.. Just the natural regen...

Yeah, but burst shot is also a stun attack. i find that having novice rifles is also very helpful. Kneecap shot and head shot are very awesome with any maxed out weapon.

For the record, I have yet to have concussion shot not stick the first time. Having restraining shot and kneecap shot doubles the length of the -snare-.

It does not. The target remains rooted and unable to move even if you hit them with a barrage of damage shots.

Whether this is intended or a bug that will be fixed... well, that remains to be seen...

Just used this thread to help me set my bar and then I picked up my first CU mission. I volontarly took stuff 1 level under mine, and that I knew do not tend to gang up on ya. So it gave me time to play around with the specials. When I tried the tankish "come here you, let's deck it out" attitude, I won by an hair, thanks to LD. Then I started really using the proposed combos of this thread and it work very well, can finish my mob with my health intact. Add to that Inspiration buff, Neutron Pixie and a shot of Brandy for quick regen, and it is fun. lol

Yep, the whole "strategy" aspect of combat now, particularly Smugglers, makes fighting take a bit more thinking than just mashing your highest damage button.
